WASHINGTON: Former president Pervez Musharraf said Tuesday that the United States may have been able to avoid its long hunt for Osama bin Laden if it had recognized Afghanistan’s Taliban regime.
Musharraf, who is trying to stage a political comeback, supports talks with “moderate Taliban” to find a settlement in Afghanistan where US-led forces have been fighting for more than nine years.
Pakistan was the chief supporter of the Taliban regime, which imposed a rigid brand of Islam over most of Afghanistan from 1996 to 2001. Musharraf reversed course overnight following the September 11 attacks.
“The world did not recognize them and we were being reprimanded for doing that,” Musharraf said at the Asia Society’s Texas Center in Houston.
“I always proposed that we need to have a different strategy. We need to recognize the Taliban and try to change them

Muslims in Bijnor town of Uttar Pradesh on Sunday protested against the proposed marriage of tennis star Sania Mirza with Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik.
Buzz up!
The protestors raised slogans and tore her posters.
“Sania Mirza became the heartbeat of India in last few years due to her success. People of the country love her because she made India proud. But she has also disappointed her well-wishers by deciding to go to Pakistan to marry,” said Mufti Samun, a protestor.
Sania announced her wedding plans on Tuesday. Her wedding with Shoaib is scheduled for April 15.
Mirza, 23, was the first Indian to win a WTA tour event in 2005 and reached her highest world ranking of 27 two years ago, although she has since slipped to 92.
Malik, 28, is an all-rounder who captained Pakistan between 2007 and 2009 and has been fighting a 12-month ban by the Pakistan Cricket Board for poor performance and indiscipline.

KANDAHAR : The Taliban on Thursday claimed responsibility for a suicide attack on a base in eastern Afghanistan that killed eight Americans.
“We claim responsibility for the attack,” purported Taliban spokesman, Zabiullah Mujahid.
The US government said eight Americans were killed in the attack on a military base in Khost province on Wednesday afternoon.
However, claimed the attack killed 16 Americans.
The Islamist militia, which has been fighting for eight years to overthrow the Western-backed Afghan government and eject foreign troops from Afghanistan, routinely exaggerate claims about the losses their attacks inflict.

The Fourth Kind True Story

The Fourth Kind True Story:The Fourth Kind is a true story, at least according to ads and trailers. But The Fourth Kind true story claims have to be taken with a grain of salt. The Fourth Kind true story hook is one that has been used by countless horror movies lately. The Fourth Kind’s true story is one about aliens, not serial horror killers. Though the movie tries to make it look like The Fourth Kind’s story about sleep-deprived people facing alien abduction is true, most may not buy it.
The Fourth Kind’s premise is that in Nome, Alaska, sleep-deprived patients who went under hypnosis were vulnerable to alien abduction. In fact, the movie presents audio and video tape of such sessions as archival footage, and is framed to look like an adaptation of a true story. Of course, if The Fourth Kind was a true story, then it would be real proof that aliens do exist, and have made contact of the fourth kind to abduct us.
Of course, whenever a movie claims to be about a true story, inevitably it isn’t. Hollywood can’t even make bio-pics of real true stories without distorting the facts and people in some way. And horror movies like The Blair Witch Project, The Amityville Horror and The Haunting in Connecticut have tried to pass off as true stories too.
But the debate of The Fourth Kind ‘true story’ is coming under some rather bad timing for the movie. For the last month, horror fans have been worshiping Paranormal Activity, the ultra low-budget hit that nevertheless looked very real to audiences. The home-movie format made the story of spirits haunting a young couple look all too real – or at least more real than what The Fourth Kind looks like.

Stupak Amendment,Stupak:Where are we on the abortion standoff? Still fighting, from all reports. Politico reports that leadership has twisted arms in the vast majority of the caucus which is pro-choice, and Stupak won’t be the poison pill.Asked whether her allies in the pro-choice movement would support the bill with the language offered yesterday by Rep. Bart Stupak (D-Mich.), Speaker Nancy Pelosi offered a one-word answer: “Yes.”
“I don’t believe any of us believe we can hold up what we’ve been fighting for … and that’s health care,” said Rep. Louise Slaughter (D-N.Y.).
But the lawmakers said they would work hard to whip the Stupak amendment in hopes of keeping it out of the final bill, and several said they weren’t ready to declare how they would vote if Stupak’s language made it in.
“We’re nor conceding that,” Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-Ill.) said. “We’ll cross that bridge when we come to it.”
Rep. Diana DeGette (D-Colo.) said “pro-choice members are not happy this morning..
