ISLAMABAD: Zil-Haj moon has been sighted in Islamabad, Quetta and others parts of the country and Eid-ul-Udha will be celebrated on November 17 (Wednesday).

With the announcement by the Central Ruet-Hilal Committee, the fear of two Eids in the country has been dismantled. Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman chaired the meeting of the Central Ruet-Hilal Committee in Karachi. Several testimonies of moon sighting from various cities were received. Talking to media after the meeting, Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman said that first Zil-Haj would be on November 19 (tomorrow) and Eid-ul-Azha would be celebrated on November 28. Eid would be celebrated on same day all over the country. The NWFP government has already announced to celebrate Eid on November 28.

KESC Referendum, Labour Union Wins

accde6f45fn wins KESC Referendum, Labour Union WinsPAKISTAN, KARACHI: The referendum held here in KESC after collapse of 10 years has been won by the Labour Union (LU) with heavy majority.

The Labour Union was announced as victorious side with 5782 votes while the union is said to enjoy support of the political parties Jamat-e-Islami (JI), Awami National Party (ANP) and Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N).

The Peoples Workers Unity Union (PWUU), supported by the ruling parties MQM and PPP, was hit by upset defeat in KESC referendum held after 10 years of gap.

The polling remained continuous from 9am to 5pm on Thursday while the PWUU could only secure 5066 votes against LU which got 5782 votes.

According to final results, Ikhlaq Ahmed has been elected as the president of LU meanwhile, the Ameer Jamat-e-Islami Karachi Muhammad Hussain Mehanti offered congratulations to LU on winning KESC referendum.

According to the channel, militants attacked a security forces’ camp in Jani Khel area of Bannu Thursday night. In retaliation by the forces four militants were killed while three security personnel were also injured in the attack.

Meanwhile, at least three security personnel were injured when the militants attacked a security checkpoint in Miranshah. Three militants were also killed in retaliation by the security personnel deployed at Amin Check Post.

Authorities have imposed the curfew for an unannounced period in Miranshah town following the attack on the check post, it was reported.

Therefore, Ramazan One, 1430 AH may fall on Sunday. The moon crossed the conjunction line yesterday (Thursday) at 1602 Pakistan Summer Time (PST). The sunset today will be at 2002 PST, and the evening civil twilight (ECTL) will be at 2026 PST. The moon will set at 2036 PST.

Thus the age of the new moon will be 28 hours and 24 minutes at ECTL. It will set 34 minutes after sunset and ten minutes after ECTL. At ECTL the moon will be at an altitude of two degrees and three minutes and at an azimuth of 268 degrees and 13 minutes. At sunset the moon will be at an altitude of seven degrees and 22 minutes. It will be at an azimuth of 269 degrees and 25 minutes. According to astronomical parameters, there is a very very slight chance of sighting the new moon for Ramazan 1430 AH today (Friday). The weather is expected to be partly cloudy to cloudy.
