Attabad lake outflow rises to 6100 cusecs
HUNZA: The Landslide-generated Lake in Attabad is continuously making cuts at the Spillway, enhancing the outflow to 6100 cusecs, Geo News reported Wednesday.
According to the official sources, the inflow at the Lake is 5800 cusecs.
The persistent discharge of water from the Spillway caused to continue the cutting process leading the Spillway to further widen.
Meantime, the weather conditions in Hunza are worse on third consecutive day today.
Also, Gilgit-Hunza section of Karakoram Highway will remain open till 4pm today for the transportation of the relief goods.
NA body calls plots allotment record
ISLAMABAD: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has informed Public Accounts Committee of National Assembly that Rs.225 billions had been submitted in national treasury in last ten years whereas Rs.1.80 billion prizes distributed among the officials.
A meeting of Public Accounts Committee was held here to review NAB’s audit objections. In a written statement, NAB informed the committee about 10-year performance of the organization.
According to NAB, 1643 references were filed during last ten years among which 158 were restored after declaration of NRO as void and three new accountability courts were established.
The committee has directed the federal secretary housing to submit the record of discretionary allotment of plots by federal government to politicians, judges, general, bureaucrats, media representatives and other people within a month. The committee also expressed displeasure over non-suspension of deputy secretary Tariq Khakawani, involved in National Assembly Housing Scheme scam.
Shoaib receives his passport
NEW DELHI: Former captain of Pakistan cricket team Shoaib Malik has received his passport, taken in custody by the Indian police, Geo News reported Tuesday.
According to a report by an Indian news channel, Shoaib Maik’s counsel Muhammed Javed said a report on police’s inaction has been submitted to a local court.
He further said Shoaib Malik now can return home after receiving passport.
Andhra Pradesh’s High Court yesterday directed to discharge all cases against the cricketer and that his passport be returned to him.
It should be mentioned that cases of cheating and bullying were filed against Malik by Ayesha Siddiqui, who claimed to be the first wife of the cricketer. On this, the Indian police took Malik’s passport in custody.
MQM for giving financial powers to provinces
ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly on Wednesday resumed discussion on the 18th constitutional amendment bill, which was tabled by the Advisor to the Prime Minister Mian Raza Rabbani on Tuesday.
Taking part in the debate MQM leader Farooq Sattar said the 18th constitutional Amendment holds a landmark position in the political and constitutional history of Pakistan.
“Real autonomy is financial autonomy and if you give autonomy of all the departments to provinces and do not give financial powers to them, their autonomy is incomplete”, he said.
He demanded to give powers to people for writing their own fate and only then the caliber and potential of all provinces will be utilized in its true spirit.
“Article-49, which deals with sales tax on goods must be given to provinces as it is their right”, he said and added that it is the only way to stop the formulation of constituent assembly.
He was of the view that now the role of Council of Common Interests (CCI) will be more affective and the CCI will have expanded ambit to exercise its powers.
Farooq Sattar appreciated the step to give equal share in the royalty of oil and gas to provinces with the addition of a clause in Article-172.
He said that their party wrote a note of reiteration in Article -37 regarding the quota system in jobs as it is against merit system.
MQM Parliamentary Leader demanded to give representation to overseas Pakistanis in Senate, National Assembly and all the provincial assemblies as they are playing an important role in country”s building.
He maintained that most of the times it has been said that law and order is a provincial matter but on the contrary, the appointments of IGs, CCPs, ASPs and SSPs are made from Islamabad and their party opposes this and these appointments must be made a provincial subject.
He was of the view that their party supports formation of more provinces with simple majority, as it will help in solving people”s problems at lower level.
JUI-F leader and Minister for Housing and Works Rehmatullah Kakar taking part in the debate said the Bill has been compiled after thorough discussions in the Parliamentary Committee on Constitutional Reforms.
He said the JUI-F as a whole supports this Bill. He congratulated all the political parties for showing consensus on the Bill especially on repealing the LFO, granting greater provincial autonomy and renaming of NWFP as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Federal Minister and leader of PML-Functional Abdul Razzaq Thahim urged all the political parties to pass the 18th constitutional amendment Bill with consensus.
He said the President himself surrendered his powers to the Prime Minister and the Parliament. Now it will be a challenge for the Prime Minister to shoulder these responsibilities and ensure good governance.
PML-N leader from Balochistan Abdul Qadir Baloch said the 1973 constitution was on the credit of Pakistan People’s Party and now after thirty-seven years the credit the 18th constitutional amendment again goes to this party.
He paid tributes to PML-N Quaid Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif who always worked for honour and dignity of Pakistan.
Salim seeks referendum on renaming of NWFP
ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Muslim League (Likeminded group), announcing its support for the ongoing protest in Hazara Division against the renaming of NWFP as Khyber-Pakhtoonkhwa, has called for conducting a referendum on the issue.
At a news briefing in Islamabad, PML-LM leader Salim Saifullah Khan said a resolution has been submitted in the parliament on renaming of NWFP.
“We condemn the non-representation of women and minorities in the constitutional reforms committee,” he said.
To a question about the meeting of his party leaders with former president General (r) Pervez Musharraf in Dubai, he said that there was no harm in such meetings. However, he denied that they were joining the Musharraf’s Muslim league.

Plea Filed in SC Challenging Delay in Judges’ Appointment, A petition has been submitted in the Supreme Court against the delay in the appointment of judges today.
The petition has been filed by Advocate Akram Sheikh in which the federation has been made a party. In the application, it is argued that the government has been deliberately delaying the judges’ appointment requesting the court to sought record regarding the SC’s suggestion in this regard with the President’s and Governor’s version on that. The court was also asked to interpret Article 6 of the constitution, besides its imposition on those who tried to breach it.
