FAISALABAD: After constant power load shedding throughout summer, consumer will now also face gas load shedding during the winter.
According to Sui Northern Gas Company (SNGC) officials, the production of gas during winter will reduce by 1000 mmcfd; consumption has already mounted as 200 mmcfd gas is being supplied to five power plants and 100 mmcfd gas is being provided to urea factories.

NEPRA increases power tariff by 2pc
The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has increased the power tariff by 2 percent. Notification has been issued in this regard.
According to Ministry of Water and Power, new prices would be applied from October 1. New prices would be applied on all consumers of 8 PEPCO companies and KESC. It is claimed in official notification, that 2000 megawatts electricity has been added in the national grid. And all sectors are continuously being provided electricity.
According to sources, electricity prices have been increased on IMFs demand while electricity tariff would be increased up to 26 percent in June.
Stormy winds hit KP, uproot relief camps

PESHAWAR: In Peshawar and its surrounding areas, rain and stormy winds uprooted many camps of flood victims alongside the Motorway, adding the difficulties of the affected people.
According to the Meteorological Department, central districts of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa are likely to witness more light showers and windy storms during the next few days.
Besides, the scenic Swat valley, Buner and its adjacent areas are also expected to receive heavy downpour.
The Met office has forecast a fresh spell of rain from Aug 25 in the entire province. But there is no threat of flooding due to the rain.

Kotri Barrage in high flood, several villages in Hyderabad submerge

HYDERABAD: Flood water heads towards the outskirts of Shahdadkot amid efforts to save the city from inundation while Kotri Barrage is in very high flood, while several villages in Hyderabad inundated.
As many as 20 villages in Latifabad including Haji Khan Laghari, Budhal Laghari, Fazal Khan Laghari, Daree Mian, Naij Noha Mian and Dhanoo Bheel are submerged by the floodwater.
Two graveyards, one of which belonged to a Hindu community, along the embankments of Hussainabad and Latifabad were also inundated.
The high flood wave passing through Kotri Barrage has inundated low-lying areas in Hyderabad, Thatta and Tando Muhammad Khan districts. Over one lac people have moved out of Katcha area of Thatta due to floods. Of them 60,000 are being provided shelter in relief camps while others are lying under open sky at the mercy of nature.

Pak Army makes relief ramps, distributes cooked food

RAWALPINDI: Pakistan army troops have established four relief camps at Naseerabad and are providing cooked food and medical treatment to marooned people.
According to an ISPR press release, Pakistan army has sent 180 tons of ration, 5,800 tents, medicines worth Rs. 2 million and 26 tons of water to the flood affected areas of Naseerabad.
A total of 536 tons of relief items have been dispatched so far from Karachi to Sukkur, Kashmore, Jacobabad and Shikarpur.
At Rahim Yar Khan, over 2,000 flood affectees are being provided with cooked food and fodder to 2,150 livestock.
A total of 470 tons of relief items worth Rs. 17.5 million have been sent to southern Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, KP and Gilgit-Baltistan from Lahore.

Five swept away in flood-hit Muzaffargarh Staff Report
MUZAFFARGARH: Five people were swept away by the floodwater after the roof of their house collapsed in Muzaffargarh District on Thursday.
Hundreds of homeless people of flooded Muzaffargarh continued to arrive in Multan.
Despite the tall claims of the Punjab government, displaced flood victims have been living in miserable conditions in various parts of the city.
Most of the flood victims are staying at Multan railway station with no proper arrangements for food or shelter by the local administration.
Speaking to a SAMAA correspondent, a flood victim said that the food being provided by the local people during Sehr and Iftar is not sufficient to meet the requirement of hundreds of people. SAMAA
Pak Army evacuates 75,000 stranded people
RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Army continues its rescue and relief efforts for affected persons in the flood-hit areas of the country and so far shifted more than 75,000 stranded people to safer places.
According to a statement issued by ISPR, 60 additional life-saving boats have been transported from Lahore to Multan and Sukkur for evacuation and rescue activities.
In KPK, 18 helicopters are busy in distributing rations and evacuating the marooned people from Kalam. Todate 3,000 tourists have been evacuated from Kalam. So far 30,000 cooked food packets have been distributed among the affectees of Charsadah, 33,601 in Nowshera and 28,920 food packets and 2000 water bottles have been distributed at Upper Swat.
Eight trucks of 25 tons of rations each have reached Tarbela Ghazi for further distribution among the affected people. Army Engineers are busy in making temporary bridges on River Swat to facilitate the transportation. People stranded at inaccessible places are being provided food through Helicopters and even Animal transport is also being employed.
In Sindh, 25,000 people have been evacuated from Guddu, Kashmoor, Sukkur, Ghotki and Qadirpur. 10,000 water bottles and packets of cooked foods have been distributed among the affectees.
Geo News reporter attacked in Hyderabad
HYDERABAD: Unknown assailant(s) opened fire at Geo News’ reporter Anwar Kamal, injuring him seriously, Geo News reported Saturday.
He was rushed to a local hospital where he is being provided medical aid.
Anwar Kamal was on his way to Karachi in Geo’s van after covering Dadu-Manchar Lake when unknown gunmen on motorcycle opened fire at him.
Karachi: Riaz Lalji returns home safely
Pakistans prominent tradesman and President Zardaris close friend Riaz Lalji, who was thought to be abducted from Karachi airport on Sunday, has returned home safely Monday.
The other day, Riaz Lalji reached Karachi from Dubai at 5 am, where some unidentified people abducted him from the airport. According to CCPO Karachi Waseem Ahmad, the car of Riaz Lalji has been recovered from the vicinity of airport. Riaz Lalji is the owner of Al-Abbas Steel Mills and a very close friend of President Asif Ali Zardari. He was also involved in some cases of NAB and FIA.
According to sources, driver and guards of Riaz Lalji are also missing; where as police is claiming this incident as kidnapping. An FIR no. 284 has been registered against unidentified persons in airport police station by Maj (R) Mohammad Tahir.
Mullen rules out unilateral operation in Pakistan
The US Chairman of the Joint Chief of Staff, Admiral Mike Mullen rejected the possibility of US operation in tribal areas of Pakistan.
The US is focusing on Pakistan’s cooperation for combating the Taliban and working with Pakistan and Afghanistan to pressurize the Al-Qaeda leadership, said Mullen in an interview with a US TV channel.
We are building strong relations with Pakistan and its forces are being provided training in this regard, he added.
We are satisfied with Pakistan’s performance against terrorism, Mullen replied when he was asked whether US is launching an operation in Pakistani tribal areas.
