Mirza spurns PPP-MQM reconciliation
KARACHI: Sindh’s former Senior Minister Dr. Zulfiqar Mirza Friday said reconciliation by Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) with Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) was unacceptable to him.
His supporters in large number gave him warm reception as he arrived at Ghagar Gate from Interior Sindh. Addressing on the occasion, PPP’s firebrand leader stressed he came out to rid people of thieves, dacoits and extortionists.
Disfavoring PPP-MQM reconciliation, Mirza urged people to strengthen hands of President Asif Ali Zardari and Bilawal Bhutto.
When asked to react to the statement given by Mirza against him, Federal Interior Minister Rehman A. Malik declined to comment.
Talking to media at Women Jail, Karachi, Malik said, “I am not meddling with any of Sindh affairs.”
Every action in Karachi is undertaken after Sindh’s Chief Minister and Governor are taken into confidence, the federal minister added. TrendPK
FIA chief served contempt notice in BB murder case

RAWALPINDI: Hearing the Benazir Bhutto’s assassination case, a special anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Saturday issued a contempt of court notice to Director General of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Malik Iqbal for changing Investigation Officer and summoned him on May 30.
ATC judge Rana Nisar Ahmed Khan heard the Bhutto assassination case at Adiyala prison.
Special Public Prosecutor Chaudhry Azhar told the court that Investigation Officer Khalid Rasool has now been placed with Shuja Naveed.
On this, the judge expressed his anger, saying that Khalid Rasool was to submit his report about the implementation of Pervez Musharraf’s arrest warrant.
“Why was he changed,” the judge asked, saying that it was done in defiance of the court’s orders.”
The court then issued a contempt of court notice to FIA chief and adjourned the case till May 30. TrendPK

GUJRANWALA: President Asif Ali Zardari has said that the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto will be given some political responsibilities in September this year.
While addressing Party Parliamentarians and office bearers from Gujranwala division here at the Aiwan-e-Sadr on Wednesday night, the president said his government has achieved successes despite all opposition and criticism.
The PPP will take the country out of all crises, he said.

LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has said that President Asif Ali Zardari rules the nation like a don and Pakistan does not belong to the Bhutto family.
The main opposition party of the country has suddenly changed its friendly attitude towards the government and changed its tone, criticizing the government.
Khwaja Saad Rafique, Senator Pervez Khursheed and many other prominent PML-N leaders used very strong language while criticizing the President and his aids while addressing a party congregation in Lahore held to recall October 12,1999′s military coup as a black day.
PML-N leaders said Shahnawaz Bhutto was loyal to the British rulers and if President Zardari’s state of affairs do not improve, the government will not be allowed to complete its five years tenure.

Zardari says ‘there will be tougher times ahead’
NAUDERO: President Asif Ali Zardari on the occasion of birth anniversary of Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Monday said there will be tougher times ahead but he will continue to stand his ground for a prosper future of the coming generation.
Addressing a large gathering of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) workers and supporters here, the President said, “it would be wrong to say all is well in Pakistan, all is not certainly not well at the moment but the direction and path we have adopted is right.”
“We gave Pukhtoons the identity that no other government could give in the past 60 years,” he said with satisfaction, adding, Pakistan’s flag is flying on the house of Bhutto and it is a message to the enemies.
He said Shaheed Mohtarma Bhutto has taken her revenge from the dictator who is now on the run.
President Zardari lashed out at his opponents calling them once again the ‘political actors’ and that they are ‘worth nothing’.
He said the government right on the path of progress, mentioning the passage of the 18th amendment, NFC Award and Balochistan Packages as the achievements of the present government.

FIA files interim Chalan against BB murder accused
RAWALPINDI: The Federal Investigation Agency on Wednesday filed interim Chalan against four accused arrested in connection with the assassination of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto in an anti-terrorism court.
Dead Taliban chief Baitullah Mehsud has been declared an absconder in the Challan and has been listed as dead among the escapees.
Mehsud is facing charges of carrying out three suicide attacks for Bhutto’s assassination.
Special Court judge Malik Akram Awan heard the Bhutto’s murder case in a closed room against the accused, Rafaqat Husnain, Aitzaz Shah, Abdul Rashid and Sher Zaman.
The FIA submitted interim Chalan comprising 39 pages, which also carry DNA test reports and records of mobile phones seized from the possession of accused.
Meanwhile, the court put off till June 12 the hearing in this case. It is being expected that accused will be prosecuted in the next hearing.
Peshawar: 11 Including 8 POs, 3 Cops Killed In Crossfire

Some 11 people including 8 proclaimed offenders (POs) and three cops killed in a crossfire in Peshawar, Dunay News reported on Saturday.
On a tip off, the police conducted raid at a house. On seeing the police the Pos opened fire which claimed SHO Riaz, ASI Markalam Marwat and Constable Shakirullah Jan, while an FC personnel also got injured.
The retaliatory fire by the police killed eight POs.
The injured have been shifted to hospital.

Three Dacoits Killed In Encounter In Karachi

KARACHI,News Trends: Three dacoits have been killed in police encounter in Korangi, Karachi whereas 2 dacoits have been arrested Saturday.
According to police authorities, the dacoits robbed a house in Korangi and ran away.
On receiving the information, the police cordoned off the area and started searching for the dacoits. During the search, encounter took place between the police and dacoits at Chakra Goth graveyard.
Three dacoits were killed in exchange of fire whereas 2 were arrested. Police recovered 5 TT pistols and other arms from their custody.

UN To Unveil Benazir Bhutto Murder Probe Today

A United Nations commission investigating the assassination of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto would unveil its findings public today.
According to sources, the report would contain the statements of President Asif Ali Zardari, former President Parvez Musharraf, former Chief Minister Punjab Parvez Elahi along with the statements of other close associates who were present at the time of the attack. UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon at would hand over a copy of the report to Pakistani Ambassador to the UN Hussain Abdullah Haroon. The UN chief would also file the report with the Security Council. The UN offices in Pakistan would remain close for the next 72 hours in awake of security concerns.
All relevant facts and circumstances had been explored, the report was complete and would not be changed. About suggestions from Pakistan for the commission to interview more internal figures, including Afghan President Hamid Karzai and former US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, the spokesman said the Commission has informed the Secretary General that all relevant facts and circumstances have been explored, and the report is complete and will not be changed.
The commission was to present its report on March 30 but delayed it at the request of President Asif Ali Zardari. The commission’s tenure ended on March 31.
