US Archives unveils Magna Carta after repairs
The National Archives unveiled its 715-year-old copy of Magna Carta on Thursday after a conservation effort removed old patches and repaired weak spots in the English declaration of human rights that inspired the United States founding documents.
A $13.5 million gift from philanthropist David Rubenstein funded conservation and a new case for the only original Magna Carta in the United States. Rubenstein bought the historic document at auction in 2007 for $21.3 million and sent it to the National Archives on a long-term loan.
Rubenstein, who is co-founder of the private equity firm The Carlyle Group, said he bought the document previously owned by Texas billionaire H. Ross Perot because he wanted to keep it from leaving the country. The only other copies are in Britain and at Australia s parliament.
The U.S. copy was one of four reissued in the year 1297. It still carries the wax seal of King Edward I of England, which is attached by a ribbon under the document.
As a history buff, Rubenstein, 62, has become somewhat of an expert on Magna Carta s legacy dating to 1215. That s when noblemen came together to declare their rights to King John, including the right to a trial by jury and the first limits on arbitrary taxation that led to the principle of “no taxation without representation.”
“This became something that set the trend of common law” in Britain and later in the United States as founding fathers such as Thomas Jefferson and James Madison referred back to Magna Carta, Rubenstein said.
Rubenstein said he became interested in the ideas behind the Constitution while working for Congress in his 20s, which led him to study the Magna Carta. The document will likely remain at the National Archives permanently, he said.
“You can t be buried with these documents as far as I know,” Rubenstein said.
Magna Carta will return to public view at the National Archives on Feb. 17. A new interactive display will allow visitors to zoom in on an image of the parchment and see how it was repaired. They can read an English translation of Magna Carta s Latin words and see comparisons to language in the U.S. Constitution and Declaration of Independence.
On Thursday, conservators showed the document in its new protective case developed by the National Institute of Standards and Technology.
Rubenstein s gift also is funding an upcoming exhibit that will open in 2013. There, Magna Carta will be shown as a forerunner to the freedoms imagined in the U.S. Declaration of Independence, Constitution and Bill of Rights and will be paired with other documents declaring human rights for African Americans, women, immigrants and others.

Filming the eight-episode docu-soap, Basketball Wives, definitely was an experience. 
I certainly didn’t realize how time consuming filming was going to be. During the eight-week period, I didn’t see my husband much and was pretty much with my cast mates all day everyday. Having very little time to myself was probably my least favorite part of filming. Every girl needs her mani/pedi every now and again, right?
On The Other Cast mates
I did enjoy the many laughs with my best friend, Evelyn Lozada, and I shared. My cast mates and I definitely had some memorable moments making this show come to life. I mean, the drink throwing, how can I forget that crazy night?
All and all, I am happy with the project and am confident Shaunie O’Neal, executive producer, did an amazing job editing and producing a hit show. If I had to do it all again, I would in a heartbeat. Season 2, I would be more prepared and would know what to expect time-wise.

Inman Park organizes a neighborhood festival which is hugely regarded as Atlanta’s most spirited and eclectic.The dates of the Annual Inman Park Spring Festival and Tour of Homes is April 24-25, 2010.
The historic Inman Park was founded in 1889 in the city’s oldest suburb.
The festival is sponsored by the Inman Park Neighborhood Association (IPNA) – the non-profit association established in the 1970s.

The Austrian President, Heinz Fischer, has won a second six-year term in office in a landslide election.
The veteran Social Democrat politician gained almost 79% of votes cast for the largely ceremonial post, according to preliminary official results.
The controversial far-right candidate Barbara Rosenkranz won 15% of the vote while Rudolf Gehring of the small Christian Party was third with 5.44%.
Turn-out was low by Austrian standards at just under 49%.
That figure was expected to rise slightly once postal votes were counted.
Mrs Rozenkranz, who is married to a man who was a member of a banned far right-wing party, 
was never expected to win this election.
But many Austrians were outraged at her nomination. In the past, she has criticised Austria’s anti-Nazi laws, saying they go against the freedom of speech.

Starting April 26th, Burger King will sell an Iron Man-themed burger called the “Whiplash Whopper.” The fast food restaurant will also be putting Iron Man-themed toys in the kids meals – 4 toys designed for boys and 4 Iron Man toys designed for girls. In addition, Burger King will also be airing a number of ads promoting the movie and the restaurant tie-in and has branded its website ClubBK.com to reflect the tie-in as well.
7-Eleven
7-Eleven has created a line of Iron Man branded cups and straws to promote the film along with their Slurpee drink. The company is also rolling out a new contest titled “Live Like a Billionaire Sweepstaks.” Also be on the lookout for web and radio ads from 7-Eleven that reflect the movie tie-in along with branded TV ads in store.

The lunchmeat brand Land O’Frost is Tony Stark’s sandwich meat brand of choice. The company will be rolling out both TV and print ads as well as Tony Stark standees to stores.

Dr. Pepper has already released 14 Iron Man branded collectible cans and a number of television ads featuring Iron Man creator Stan Lee.

LG Electronics will soon be airing Iron Man 2-themed TV ads, in-store placement circular ads, digital and mobil ads, and a retail incentive program. The new arrests include an attorney with the law firm Ropes & Gray and former employees of Incremental Capital hedge fund, according to a source familiar with the matter.
Former employees of trading firm Schottenfeld Group are among those that will be charged, a Schottenfeld official said.
The new arrests come nearly three weeks after Raj Rajaratnam, the billionaire founder of hedge fund firm Galleon Group, and five others were charged in the case.
Galleon, a prominent New York-based firm that once managed $7 billion and specialized in technology and healthcare companies, has since shut down.
The scandal sent shockwaves through the financial world and unnerved the $1.4 trillion hedge fund industry at a time when performance was improving and investors were committing new money.
One criminal complaint accused Rajaratnam, 52, considered the richest Sri Lankan in the world, of conspiring with Intel Capital treasury department managing director Rajiv Goel and Anil Kumar, a director of McKinsey & Co. The alleged offenses took place over three years starting in January 2006.
A second complaint accused three other people — New Castle portfolio manager Danielle Chiesi, New Castle general partner Mark Kurland and Robert Moffat, a senior vice president in the IBM technology group — of insider trading and earning millions of dollars in illegal profits.more details reuters
