KARACHI: Wicketkeeper Zulqarnain Haider, who retired from international cricket under pressure of death threats for refusing to fix matches, was on Tuesday questioned by Scotland Yard and ICC Anti-Corruption unit in London in connection with his claims that he was approached by bookies.
The glovesman, who fled to London midway through a series against South Africa in the UAE after receiving death threats for refusing to fix matches, said he was issued a temporary stay permit by the United Kingdom border agency.
“The Scotland Yard and ICC ACU guys have questioned me and the border agency has issued me a temporary permit to stay for one month,” Haider told a Pakistani news channel.
Sources said Haider had applied for political asylum on reaching Heathrow airport last night and had been questioned by the UK border agency in this regard.

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad urged London Thursday for fair treatment of Pakistanis living in Britain amid reports of discrimination in the processing of visa applications and treatment of illegal immigrants.
Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi met British high commissioner Adam Thomson in Islamabad after a report found the British agency responsible for monitoring immigration may be discriminating against Pakistanis in the way it hands out visas.
John Vine, the independent chief inspector who oversees the UK Border Agency, found its staff were making it more difficult for people to enter Britain from Pakistan than from Gulf states such as Abu Dhabi, Bahrain and Dubai.

Detained Two Pakistani Students In UK Back Home

LAHORE: Two more Pakistani students, detained as terror suspects in United Kingdom, have arrived home on Thursday.
The students Rizwan Sharif and Umar Farooq reached Lahore from Manchester by a regular PIA flight, according to sources.
Talking to newsmen at the airport, Omer and Rizwan said they were investigated by hundreds of policemen during his detention but the British authorities failed to prove any charges levelled against him.
Earlier, Abdul Wahab Khan and Shoaib Khan returned to Pakistan last month and before them their colleague Tariq ur Rehman went back in June voluntarily after the British authorities agreed to drop deportation charges.
Last month, the Special Immigration Appeals Commission had refused the bail applications of detained students and set March 10, 2010 as the new date of hearing.
They were among 10 Pakistani students arrested in April in terror swoop in north west England. After three weeks, Police was unable to bring any charges against them and the students were handed over to UK Border Agency for deportation.
The British authorities have already released two students Janas Khan and Sultan Sher but the bail for the rest was denied.
Faced with the prospects of long incarceration till March next year, the students have decided to return home on the condition that the British authorities drop deportation notices.
It is expected that the remaining three students namely Muhammad Ramazan, Ahmed Faraz Khan and Abid Naseer will also leave for Pakistan in a monthÆs month. Ramazan and Faraz are currently lodged in Milton Keynes and Abid at Manchester.

Family Feud In Tribal Claimed Three Persons
GHOTKI, PAKISTAN: At least three tribesmen were killed while three sustained injuries as two rival tribes clashed over old family enmity here early on Saturday, Geo news reported.
According to police sources, the skirmishes broke out when the armed tribesmen hailing from Lolai tribe launched attack on houses of Armani tribesmen with automatic weapons. Consequently, 10-year-old boy Allah Baksh, 17-year-old girl Peral and Ameer Baksh Armani (32) lost their lives while Ali Baksh, Peer Bakhar and Marvi sustained critical injuries.
The injured people have been taken to hospital for medical attainment while as many as over 30 tribesmen, belonging to two aforementioned tribes, have been killed during 2-years-long feud, police sources added.
This recent incident has hampered the peace and order, triggering higher amount of panic in the area, as two tribes have taken their positions for carrying out more onslaughts on each other, sources concluded.

Suicide Attack Foiled By Cops In Kohat
KOHAT, PAKISTAN: A suicide bomber exploded himself here in Kohat following his attempt to abduct a youth from a house was foiled by police but he retaliated and the explosion occurred after a brief exchange of fire with police, Geo news reported on Friday.
According to police sources, police took action after they received intelligence in regard to presence of a suicide bomber in a house who was making it hard to kidnap a youth from there.
Police intercepted him but in reply, he opened fire on police, which police retaliated and after a brief exchange of fire, the bomber exploded himself, sources added.
Police said the bomber could not be identified as yet while the investigation into the incident has commenced, sources said.

Pakistani Students Freed From UK Reached Home
ISLAMABAD, PAKISTAN: Two Pakistani students have reached back Pakistan Saturday of their own volition after the British authorities agreed to drop deportation charges against them.
Abdul Wahab Khan and Shoaib Khan will arrived here from Manchester by a regular PIA flight (PK 702).
Talking to media at Islamabad airport, their lawyer Amjad Malik said they were detained for 134 days despite British law that wont allows detention more than 28 days without case. The students said the British authorities maltreated them in the prison.
The students were among ten Pakistani students arrested in a terror raid in April across north west England. As no evidence was found, the charges were dropped but they were handed over to UK Border Agency for deportation.
