Obama’s Uncle arrested

Look who’s back! President Barack Obama‘s long-lost uncle Onyango Obama (A.K.A. ”Uncle Omar“) has been arrested for drinking and driving just outside of Boston and has also been detained as an illegal immigrant.

The elder Obama, 67, was arrested outside the Chicken Bone Saloon in Framingham, Massachusetts at 7:10 p.m. EDT on August 24, 2011. According to police, he almost crashed his Mitsubishi SUV into a police car, then insisted the officer should have yielded to him.

Uncle Omar reportedly blew a 0.14 on his breathalyzer test, which is above the state limit of 0.08.

Obama was charged with DUI and driving to endanger, as well as failing to use a turn signal. He was then detained as an illegal immigrant due to the fact that the U.S. Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement has an outstanding warrant for him because he was previously ordered deported to Kenya.

In his 1995 memoir, “Dreams of My Father”, President Obama refers to “Uncle Omar” as “the uncle who had left for America 25 years ago and had never come back”.

Obama pleaded not guilty at his remand hearing, but was held in custody due to the immigration warrant.

Pamela ad too racy for Hong Kong airport

HONG KONG: An animal rights commercial starring former Playboy centrefold Pamela Anderson, which is banned at some US airports, has been deemed too racy for Hong Kong, one of Asia’s busiest aviation hubs.

The advertisement, titled “Cruelty Doesn’t Fly”, features the scantily-clad former “Baywatch” star as an airport security guard who strips passengers of leather, fur and other skins.

A couple, seen nude from behind, also appears in the video commercial created by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA).

“Given the groping that you see at security checkpoints and the nudity that you see in body scans we’re surprised that our lighthearted ad was deemed too risque”, said Jason Baker, PETA Asia”s vice president.

The animal rights group said its ad was vetoed by JCDecaux, the advertising agency responsible for airing videos at Hong Kong’s airport.

In a statement, the city’s airport authority said the commercial was “considered inappropriate” because it might offend some visitors.

The ad — which also features comedian Steve-O, a star of the ”Jackass” movie series, and German punk icon Nina Hagen — is already banned at airports in New York City and Boston, PETA said.

The animal rights group said it still hoping to run the ad in other Asia-Pacific airports, including Tokyo, Seoul and Sydney.

Obama lends weight to Massachusetts Dems

US President Barack Obama traveled to Boston, Massachusetts, giving his support to Democratic Governor Deval Patrick and also raising money for the party’s campaign arm.
Obama spoke before a crowd of thousands at a Boston rally in support of Patrick, who is being challenged by Republican Charles Baker and independent Timothy Cahill. Polls show Patrick does not have a commanding lead over his challengers.
In two weeks, you can set the direction of this state and this country for the next two years, Obama said, asking supporters to turn out and vote.Obama also said the Democrats were not going to let party labels get in the way of progress, while accusing Republican leaders in Washington of doing just the opposite by opposing the Democrats every step of the way, wishing to ride people’s anger and frustration all the way to the ballot box.This election is a choice. And the stakes could not be higher, Obama said.He later appeared in an event for the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee alongside Senator John Kerry. The event was expected to raise some 900,000 dollars.
With the mid-term elections a little over two weeks away, the Democratic Party has been on the defensive lately, having been outspent by the Republicans amid voter apathy. The sluggish economic situation and high unemployment add more insults to the party’s woes.To reverse the tide, Obama has been busy stumping for Democrats recently. He attended several campaign events outside of Washington D.C., and will go to the West Coast to support Democrats.

India ready to take up all outstanding issues with Pakistan: Nirupama

Indian Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao has said that India is prepared to discuss all contentious issues with Pakistan, including the issue of Jammu and Kashmir, to ensure stability in the South Asian region. Talking to mediamen in Boston Nirupama said, The issue of Jammu & Kashmir comes up in our relationship with Pakistan and we are prepared to discuss all outstanding issues with Pakistan. We want to discuss all the outstanding issues and that will also include the issue of Jammu and Kashmir.The top diplomat, who was in Washington earlier to discuss President Obama’s upcoming India visit in November, stressed that Kashmir is an internal matter as far as India is concerned.It is an internal affair because it (Kashmir) is an integral part of India.
Negotiation only way to resolve issues: FO
Talking to Dunya News, Foreign Office Spokesperson Abdul Basit said that Pakistan has always been asking India to resolve all the outstanding issues particularly Kashmir through talks. We are happy over Nirupamas statement, the FO spokesperson said.
The Spokesman said that above 100 Kashmiris have embraced martyrdom during the last three months which is a matter of concern for all.
We are very much concerned with the situation and we understand that this issue cannot be solved through the use of force, he said.

Top UK comedy award goes to English comic

EDINBURGH: Britain’s top annual comedy prize, the Foster’s Edinburgh Comedy Award, went to England’s Russell Kane at an Edinburgh Fringe festival ceremony on Saturday for his show “Smokescreens and Castles”.

The award for best comedy newcomer on the Fringe was won by 31-year-old London comedienne Roison Conaty, while the Spirit of the Fringe award went to 20-year-old American Bo Burnham, who has accumulated an audience of millions from his YouTube internet comedy broadcasts from his Boston bedroom.

Awards’ producer Nica Burns said Kane, 30, from Westcliffe-on-Sea in Essex, “takes the audience by storm with his boundless energy and enthusiasm”.

After Los Angeles Lakers won the NBA final over the Boston Celtics their player Ron Artest thanked media. Boston Celtics got defeated seven times from Lakers. He was arrested right in the game six years ago and he thanked on the television to media for supporting him. His doctors said that he is a normal person and he gave proof by thanking on Live television.

He thanked the reporters. He was previously arrested when he jumped over the fan in the crowed who said some thing to him. He is now changed as after the arrest he thanked the reporters for helping him. He is more mature now and he will not repeat his mistake again.

LOS ANGELES — John Wooden was honored with a moment of silence before Game 2 of the NBA finals between the Los Angeles Lakers and Boston Celtics on Sunday.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Bill Walton, two of Wooden’s greatest players at UCLA, took turns speaking publicly for the first time since the 99-year-old Hall of Famer died Friday.

“It’s very difficult for me to put into words the greatness of John Wooden,” Abdul-Jabbar said. “He was so much more than a basketball coach. To have him in my life was a true blessing. I will always be grateful I was able to be one of his students.”

Abdul-Jabbar rushed back from Europe to visit Wooden at his hospital bedside before he died. Wooden’s teams won a record 10 NCAA championships at UCLA, including seven in a row.

The award honors the memory of the late Hall of Fame coach and is presented to someone who has demonstrated a high level of excellence, integrity and commitment to promoting the NBA throughout their careers.

Winter, a former Lakers consultant, helped refine the triangle offense and was instrumental in assisting Lakers coach Phil Jackson win six NBA championships with the Chicago Bulls and four with the Lakers.

“His coaching record was impeccable,” Jackson said. “For the first 20 years of basketball that he coached he was one of the top coaches ever in the game.”

Ramsay guided the Portland Trail Blazers to the 1977 NBA championship and retired as the NBA’s second winningest coach of all-time.

2011 ALL-STAR GAME: The NBA All-Star game is returning to Los Angeles next year.

Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and Hall of Famer James Worthy helped unveil the logo that will be used for All-Star weekend on Feb. 17-20.

The game will be held in Los Angeles for a record fifth time, with the Lakers and Clippers serving as co-hosts.

“We’re looking forward to being back here in Los Angeles for our All-Star weekend or what’s really become a week now,” NBA deputy commissioner Adam Silver said. “It becomes the center of the basketball world for a week.”

The movie opens with a high school prom where Kathy is crowned the prom queen and John is crowned the prom king. We have a feeling things are about to get a whole lot more complicated for this couple soon…
Prom king and queen John Patton (Seeley) and Kathy Blair (Britt Irvin, “Hot Rod”) are the perfect small-town couple. They have everything they’ve ever wanted—including John’s full ride to Harvard University. But that all comes crashing down when Kathy gets pregnant the summer before their freshman year. Deciding to keep the baby, the couple gets married and moves to Cambridge, MA so John can pursue his dream and keep his scholarship at the Ivy League school.
However, John soon finds out that having a family while trying to ace math is harder than it seems, and he becomes overwhelmed. After failing calculus the first semester, John decides to take it again, against the advice of icy Dean Frost (Zimmer), who seems convinced that John is setting himself up for failure.
John promises Kathy after a walk together outside of prom that he will not forget her when he goes to Harvard and they both profess their love to each other.

Over the summer Kathy finds out she’s pregnant and tells John. After discussing their options the couple decides to keep the baby that Kathy is 8 weeks pregnant with.

John’s mom talks to him and says he shouldn’t give up his dreams of going to Harvard. But will he be able to do that and be a father at the same time? John and Kathy get married and they make a plan to go to Harvard together and live in student housing and raise the baby together. And a few months later, off they go!

They move into their new home in Boston near Harvard. Once there, John learns that if he doesn’t pass his classes he may have his scholarship pulled because of his new marital status. On top of going to school and spending time with family, John has a job at the Harvard book store. Kathy gets a job as a bank teller to help support the family also.

While doing the laundry, Kathy finds John’s calculus test, and he got a D. Remember, he has to pass all of his classes to keep his scholarship. John apologizes for not telling Kathy the truth about the test and she tells him he is setting the bar too high.

Now it’s Christmas and Kathy and John are having some difficulties. Kathy wants to spend more time together, but John is really stressed out and busy between school and having to work all the time to make money for their growing family.

Celtics forward Glen Davis may have summed up the team’s feelings towards Thibodeau best.

2. More than a defensive guru: Thibodeau made a name for himself, at least nationally, by essentially being the defensive coordinator for the Celtics. But if you ask his peers, there is far more to him than simply being a defensive whiz. The Bulls wouldn’t have decided on him unless they liked what they heard when he started talking about his offensive principals. Rivers and former NBA head coach Jeff Van Gundy, who hired Thibodeau in New York and Houston, made it a point in recent weeks to go out of their way to praise Thibodeau for his ability in other areas of the game as well. One of the biggest knocks on former Bulls head coach Vinny Del Negro was that he didn’t run a very imaginative offense. It will be interesting to see how Thibodeau incorporates Derrick Rose and any prospective free agent into this new era of Bulls basketball.

3. Basketball is his life: Thibodeau is the first guy to enter the gym in the morning and the last one to leave at night. Ask most people about Thibodeau, and his work ethic is one of the first things that they will mention. That’s not a knock on Del Negro, who was also a very hard worker and routinely put in long hours, but Thibodeau sounds like the type of guy who will watch game film until his eyes bleed. He has earned a reputation as a workaholic and that will probably fit in nicely alongside Rose, who is regularly the last player to leave the Berto Center.
