Students, teachers attack Punjab Assembly to protest against colleges’ sovereignty

LAHORE: Angry students and teachers attacked Punjab Assembly on Wednesday to exhibit their stern protest against the sovereignty granted by the government of 26 government colleges.

According to details, a joint rally of students’ Joint Action Committee and teachers staged a sit-in on Mall Road and blocked traffic with burning tires.

Later on, infuriated students attacked Punjab Assembly and succeeded in entering the boundary after clashing with police and crossing all barricades.

The enraged and unstoppable students damaged everything they found, including mirrors of vehicles and offices. They also attacked staffers on duty and tortured them.

Police launched a stern baton charge and managed to push out students and teachers from the assembly.

NZ’s McCullum defies India with ton in second Test

NEWDEHLI: New Zealand opener Brendon McCullum struck a superb 124 not out to defy India on the fourth day of the second Test on Monday.

McCullum, 29, hit 11 fours and three sixes in his 177-ball knock as the visitors reached 237-4 at close in reply to India’s first-innings 472, built around a record century by tailender Harbhajan Singh.

New Zealand, who made 350 in their first innings, lead by 115 runs with six wickets in hand.

Kane Williamson (12) was the other not out batsman at the crease when stumps were called for the day.

McCullum dominated India’s bowlers, hitting paceman Shanthakumaran Sreesanth for a six over long-off and a four off the next ball before racing to his sixth Test century with another boundary.

He added 125 runs with Tim McIntosh to register New Zealand’s first century-stand for the opening wicket in six

Attabad: Water starts spilling from Hunza Lake

After rising to the peak point of dead-level, the water of Hunza lake has started flowing out from spillway with low pressure initially, which is expected to increase as the time progresses, Chairman NDMA confirmed early on Saturday morning.
The experts are constantly monitoring the lake through helicopters and the control room is setup 15 kilometers from the lake in a village known as Kareemabad. All the workers of relevant departments have been called on duties and rescue and safety measures have been completed. The Gilgit-Hunza section of Karakorum Highway has been closed down due to overflowing of lake; where as a system has also been installed on the boundary of the lake which will warn about the flood. Pakistan Army, local administration and rescue teams are continuously monitoring the lake.

8210de1e8a50x228 Tennessee Football Players ArrestedTennessee Football Players Arrested, Three University of Tennessee football players are in custody and charged with attempted armed robbery after an incident that occurred this morning in a pilot store located on Cumberland Avenue in Knoxville, near the campus of the University of Tennessee.

According to Police Department spokesman Darrell DeBusk Knoxville, Nu’Keese Richardson, Mike Janzen Jackson and Edwards were arrested at the Detention Center of Knox County.

Officers responded to the convenience store located at 2218 Pilot Cumberland Avenue at about 1:43 this morning on an armed robbery in progress call. According to police reports three men were sitting in the car waiting for a friend who was inside the store.

The three men said they had parked next to a light blue Toyota Prius. He went on to say a black man then approached with a black sweatshirt and brandishing a black semi-automatic pistol. He opened the driver’s door and said, “Give me everything you have.”

The men said a black man, then exited from the passenger side of the Prius, wearing a black, hooded sweatshirt. He walked to the passenger door of his car, opened it and said, “Give us everything you have.”

According to statements made by men to the police, all presenting their portfolios to suspects and showed them that he had no money. A black man, third, then went and told the other two black males, “We have to go.” The three got into the Prius and left, according to reports.

The Prius has been observed near Gibbs Hall on Lake Loudoun Blvd. on the campus of the University of Tennessee. There is a stop crime took place on the vehicle, and four men were detained in the vehicle.

He saw two hooded black officers in sight in the backseat. Under the seat back towards the center, officers found a black air pistol CO2 powered. Inside the glove box, officers found a marijuana grinder. A search of the suspects revealed a clear plastic bag containing a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana in the vehicle’s driver, his jacket pocket Marie Montmarquet’s. Montmarquet later stated that the mill marijuana belonged to her. She was charged with possession, in addition to attempted armed robbery.

Crime Lab responded to the scene and confiscated the hoodies, the air gun and marijuana mill. The vehicle was towed to the city impound lot. The marijuana was confiscated by the officers.

The four suspects were taken back to pilot a program to identification. The victims positively identified Edwards and Richardson as the two approached their vehicle and demanded everything. Source thedailytimes

bf97dcba26undary Indian firing in Sialkot Working BoundaryLahore, Pakistan: An innocent villager of Pakistan was wounded when Indian security forces opened aimless firing on Pakistani checkposts here on Sialkot Working Boundary (SWB) on Friday night, Geo news reported the incident exclusively.

Pakistan has lodged protest with Indian over the incident meanwhile, Iranian border security officials apologized for rocket firing incident from Iranian border limits, sources claimed.

According to Punjab Rangers’ spokesman, Indian border security forces continued unabated firing on Pakistani checkposts all the night on SWB, which ended following the befitting retaliation from Pakistan.

A flag meeting was also held with Indian security forces to register Pakistani protest with them, sources concluded.
