This is turning out to be an unimaginably busy year ahead for Deepika Padukone. She started off 2010 with Karthik Calling Karthik. Later she was seen in Housefull and it wasn’t too while ago when she enacted the role of a blind girl in Lafangey Parindey. Well, picture abhi baaki hai, literally so, as before the year ends, she would also be seen in Break Ke Baad and Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey.

While this wasn’t strenuous enough, there is more. Both her new releases would be literally arriving back to back. While Ashutosh Gowariker had announced 3rd December as the release date for his Abhishek Bachchan starrer Khelein Hum…. many months ago, Kunal Kohli’s Break Ke Baad (with Imran Khan in lead) too joined the race by declaring 26th November as the D-day.

“This means double the stress for Deepika”, comments an industry veteran, “It is an entirely different ballgame today when it comes to the release of a film. One just can’t rest after the dubbing of the film. There are ‘hazaar’ promotional events involved, not just pre as well as post the release of a film. Moreover, there are other commitments of a celebrity as well which are not just related to the films.”

All of this means that Deepika would be promoting both her new releases in a parallel manner. When at least a month long commitment is a given for the promotion of any major film, it would be interesting to see how Deepika manages it all for two movies in a 4-6 weeks long time period.

“I guess she may just have to go with the flow here”, continues the veteran, “Though it sounds tough for any artist to stop talking about a film of hers which has just released, her commitment for Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey means that she would be required to detach herself from Break Ke Baad pretty quickly. She will have to move from one Friday to another. In any case, both are very important films of her as she plays a lead protagonist here rather than just being a part of an ensemble affair.”

Now it has to be seen whether one of the two filmmakers would actually decide to budge from the slot that they had chosen for themselves, hence resulting in a comfortable spacing out of Break Ke Baad and Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey.

“I won’t be able to do that”, says Ashutosh Gowariker who, just like Kunal Kohli, has already released the promo of his film, “3rd December is D day for Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey. The entire calendar has already been planned and we are marching ahead with our plans. In any case, we had announced our release date many months ago. If someone else decides to come in on or around this date, it’s their call.”

Over to you Kunal.

What happens to an on-screen couple in love after the film is over? It seems filmmaker Kunal Kohli won’t make us wait for a sequel to get an answer.

For Break Ke Baad, the film Kohli is producing with Deepika Padukone and Imran Khan in the lead, the team recently shot an additional epilogue, after the screenplay had its say.

Explains Kunal Kohli, “When I made Hum Tum, everyone wanted to know what happens to Saif and Rani after THE END. Do they live happily ever after? I’ve lost track of how many people have suggested a sequel to Hum Tum. That’s something I won’t do. Why go back to a film when there’re so many virgin stories waiting to be broken into?”

What Kunal would henceforth do is add an “after-story”.

“In Break Ke Baad, we’ve shot a story beyond the screenplay narrating a small improvised screenplay about the life that Deepika and Imran lead after the film is over. I could be using the same device in my other films in future if the characters seem to have a life after the film.”

Last week, Kohli and his Break Ke Baad director Danish Aslam also shot a music video which was initially cut down by Kunal Kohli. But the director and his lead pair Deepika and Imran insisted on it.

Says Kunal, “I really didn’t want to do a music video. I was the first one to do music video in our films for Hum Tum. But now everyone is doing it. So I was against doing one in Break Ke Baad.”

What convinced Kunal were the lyrics. “I wanted a song about separation. But I didn’t want the words, ‘Break Ke Baad’. Prasoon Joshi came up with such a wonderful line. ‘Dooriyan Zaroori Hai’. I was like, wow! All our love songs talk about separation being not worth considering. And separation was seen as important in every relationship. Every relationship needs space. I liked that concept.”

The music video would be part of the newly-shot epilogue in Break Ke Baad.

Karan Johar gave away Imran and Sonam’s publicity dates to other films

Imran Khan and Sonam Kapoor were absent from Mumbai just before the publicity of I Hate LUV Storys (IHLS) began. The two cancelled their publicity work for the film and headed abroad for the shooting of separate films in Scotland and Mauritius, all thanks to the overweening generosity of the I Hate LUV Storys producer Karan Johar.

Dates have always been a burning issue among producers, often leading to unsolvable scheduling snares. During the shooting of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Aishwarya Rai had to shuffle her dates with Subhash Ghai’s Taal. Neither filmmaker was happy.

Now, Imran Khan finds himself in a scheduling jam thanks to a clash between the schedules for his under-production film Break Ke Baad in Mauritius and the marketing and release of I Hate LUV Storys in Mumbai.

Meticulous planner that he is, Karan Johar had set aside a large chunk of Imran Khan and Sonam Kapoor’s dates in June and July for the promotion of IHLS. Ever-accommodating for his colleagues, Karan gave away Sonam’s publicity dates for the shooting of Pankaj Kapoor’s Mausam in Edinburgh.

Then Kunal Kohli requested Karan to let go of Imran’s dates for Kohli’s first independent production Break Ke Baad. Imran who was committed to do promotional work of IHLS marched off to Mauritius to shoot for Kunal’s assistant Danish Aslam’s, leaving Karan high and dry.

Confirming these developments from Mauritius the Break Ke Baad, producer Kunal Kohli says, “Yes Karan sweetly let me have Imran’s dates so that I could complete my schedule in Mauritius. It’s rare for two producers like me and Karan, to be friends and do whatever we can to help one another.”

Karan in fact requested Kunal to send Imran back from the second week of June. But Kunal requested a week more. Says Kunal, “Karan’s stars do extensive publicity. So he has made quite a sacrifice for me. My film which would be Imran’s next release can only benefit from all the publicity for Karan’s film.”

Now that Imran and Sonam are back in Mumbai, they are expected to do 19 hours of publicity every day to make up for lost time!
Says IHLS director Punit Malhotra, “Yes… Imran and Sonam have joined us from the 20th and they have promised to really rev up the publicity now.”

oregon wind farm nantucket soundJim Gordon struggles to lift a book. It’s 4,000 pages, more than a foot thick and one of the dozens of government reports over the last decade assessing the nation’s first offshore wind farm.
“It’s thicker than the health care bill,” chuckles Gordon, the 56-year-old CEO of Cape Wind.
Gordon’s laugh has now turned into a celebratory smile. After a vicious nine-year fight on Cape Cod, Gordon has finally won approval of his wind farm to be built in the iconic waters of Nantucket Sound. Interior Secretary Ken Salazar on Wednesday signed off on the project.
“We’re trying to pioneer a new path to move America forward in obtaining cleaner energy, a healthier environment and putting people to work to harness the inexhaustible winds that we’re blessed with off the Cape,” he said.t has been anything but easy. Cape Wind has spent more than $45 million — most of it from Gordon’s own pockets — since 2001, when the project first sought a permit.

Bungie has signed an exclusive deal with Activision that will now result in the house that Pitfall built exclusively distributing Bungie’s next big franchise for the next ten years. Of course Microsoft still owns Halo, so we won’t be seeing this with the Activision brand on it or the franchise appearing anywhere else.

Based on the information so far, the deal covers a completely new intellectual property that Bungie must create. No word yet on what will become of the IP following the end of the deal. There’s also no word on whether it could include something in the Marathon Universe.

The biggest question is who will take over work on the Halo franchise? Check out the very first details of the deal as reported by CvG below:

Bungie has just signed a ten-year exclusive multiplatform deal with Activision.

The pair have announced today that they have entered into an exclusive ten-year partnership to bring Bungie’s ‘next big action game universe’ to market.

Under the terms of the agreement, Activision will have exclusive, worldwide rights to publish and distribute all future Bungie games based on the new intellectual property on multiple platforms and devices.

Bungie remains an independent company and will continue to own their intellectual property. Additional terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

The alliance provides Bungie its first such partnership since splitting with Microsoft in 2007.

Activision claims the deal ’significantly broadening its global reach by providing the resources and support to develop, distribute and release games worldwide on multiple platforms and devices’.

To date, Bungie’s Halo games have generated approximately $1.5 billion in revenues, according to The NPD Group, Charttrack and GfK.
