LOS ANGELES: Universal’s comedy “Bridesmaids” has become the most-ordered VOD title of all time, the studio said Wednesday.

In just more than four months in release, the movie has more than 4.8 million VOD rentals, according to Rentrak’s OnDemand Essentials. That is a gross of more than $24 million.

The movie, which earned Melissa McCarthy an Oscar nomination for  best supporting actress and garnered Annie Mumolo and Kristen Wiig a best screenplay nod, grossed more than $288 million worldwide in its theatrical run, and has taken in more than $100 million in Blu-ray and DVD sales.

VOD, while growing, remains a fraction of the digital revenue stream. Other digital platforms, including internet video on demand, pay-per-view and hotel viewings have totaled more than 7 million orders, grossing $40 million domestically.

“Bridesmaids” will be available on VOD through the end of February. AGENCIES

TrendPK.com: Charlie Sheen’s ex-wife, Brooke Mueller, has been in rehab for a bit now, and it seems that this may be the time that it finally works.

Mueller is allegedly at Cirque Lodge in Utah, and after staying there for about a month, she is continuing her rehabilitation treatment a little bit longer, states TMZ. Mueller reportedly plans to continue for about another 30-45 days.

While she was completing the program through in-patient treatment, she is now allegedly renting a home nearby to adjust back to normal life while still going through out-patient treatment.

Do you think she’ll get better this time?

Britain marks Charles Dickens bicentenary

LONDON: Britain marked the 200th anniversary of the birth of Charles Dickens on Tuesday with the laying of a wreath at his grave in Westminster Abbey in London and a street party in his native Portsmouth.

Prince Charles and Ralph Fiennes, who is starring in the latest film version of Dickens’ masterpiece “Great Expectations”, attended the ceremony in Poets’ Corner at the abbey, where Dickens was buried in 1870.

The congregation included what is believed to be the largest ever gathering of descendants of the Victorian novelist as well as representatives from the worlds of literature, film and theatre.

The author had asked to be buried at Rochester Cathedral in his beloved Kent in southeast England, but a public outcry led to him being placed in Poets’ Corner.

Fiennes, who will star as Magwitch in the adaptation of “Great Expectations”, was to read an extract from another of Dickens’ greatest novels, “Bleak House”.

Another reading was to be given by Mark Dickens, the writer’s great-great-grandson.

In Portsmouth, the port city on England’s south coast where Dickens’ father worked for the navy, actor Simon Callow said the celebrations would be a “dangerously moving occasion”.

“I really made the strong decision to come to the place where he was born rather than to Westminster,” he said, “where he never wanted to be”.

Callow, who has written a biography of Dickens, will make a reading at a church service in Portsmouth from “David Copperfield”, first published as a novel in 1850.

The tale was inspired by Dickens’ experiences as a boy working in a leather blacking factory when the family fell on hard times after his father was sent to the debtors’ prison.

By his mid-20s, Dickens was a literary star and his fame continued to grow.

“After Shakespeare he was the greatest inventor of character. His characters remain — even people who haven’t read his work know Mister Micawber, Oliver and Fagin,” she told AFP.

“I think he wrote his characters through their voices, and that is why they dramatise so well.

“He wanted to show that ordinary people were as interesting as rich, famous, grand people. He succeeded in that, and he was funny too, he made people laugh.”

Aside from Dickens’ prodigious output of articles and novels, he also helped to run and to finance a house for “fallen women”, offering prostitutes a fresh start away from their old lives in a large house in London.

The ultimate goal was to send them to Australia to find jobs and start their own families.

Dickens also found time to father 10 children and as his fame spread, he embarked on lecture tours of the United States. AGENCIES

kevin skinnerOddballs and train wrecks have helped make NBC’s America’s Got Talent TV’s top-rated show for four straight summers. Though viewers can expect more of the same as Season 5 begins tonight (8 ET/PT), Talent judge Piers Morgan says the entertainment caliber will be the series’ best yet.

“I know these things get hyped, but we’ve already sent home several acts that would have made the finals in past years,” he says. “There’s more talent and more variety, and the talent is so good.”

This season’s pool of singers is especially strong, influenced, Morgan says, by Susan Boyle, the matronly Scot who became a YouTube sensation (100 million hits and counting) and recording star after appearing on the British version of Talent.

“She empowered people who wouldn’t have normally auditioned,” Morgan says.

CALENDAR: Check out what summer TV has to offer

Given the Talent’s $1 million grand prize and its variety format, the series has never lacked for starry-eyed hopefuls. In 12 cities, including Denver, Chicago, Orlando, Los Angeles and Las Vegas, executive producer Jason Raff saw contestants using turkey basters as musical instruments, male belly dancers, a kid who manipulates his eyebrows to music and a guy whose eyes remain open when he sneezes.kevin20swing kevin skinner

“After five years, it still amazes me what people will do,” says Raff, whose crew uncovered country singer Kevin Skinner, the Kentucky chicken wrangler who won the top prize last year.

Howie Mandel, who replaced David Hasselhoff as a judge, says he got a kick out of many of the tryouts.

“I love great talent, but I love bad talent, too,” he says. “I’ve been onstage for 32 years. I think I can identify the ‘it’ factor, the wow factor.”

Yet at times, there were surreal moments. “There’s a thin delineation between an act and real life,” Mandel says. “There was a girl chewing on a light bulb, her smile darkened by blood. It didn’t look real at first. I thought this must be an act. But then she was on her way to the hospital.”

Thousands of auditions prompted “a lot of ‘Oh my Lord’ moments,” says host Nick Cannon.

“It seemed a lot more dangerous this year,” he says. “There was tons of bleeding. Someone put a drill down their throat. Someone was chopping wood. People who do things and have the audacity to think this is worth $1 million.”

Deciding which acts to advance for midsummer live shows — the job of Morgan, Mandel and returning judge Sharon Osbourne— caused some friction that in itself may be entertaining.

“I had two missions: One, to find the next great talent. The other, seeing how far I could push Piers in taste,” Mandel says.

She’s never tried to be in the shoes of a participant on Wipeout, although she might just go ahead one day.

“I’m not going to say no, I just haven’t yet. But you know they’d never do it without a camera rolling,” she told the Boston Herald. None of the other hosts has completed the whole course either.

“They’ve never tried it,” Wagner said of co-hosts John Henson and John Anderson. “I’m really hoping they do it, and my money would be on Anderson. I’d love to see them do it as long as I don’t have to go after them. Unless they throw the $50,000 in. Then I’d have to consider it.”

She also related her experience throughout the series, from admiring the courage of the contestants to laughing it all out when they slide into mud. Though Wagner does feel sympathy for those braving the obstacle course, it’s simply human nature to break out in giggles upon watching them fall.46178ea4d300x391 jill wagner

“As much as I love these contestants, and I kind of bond with them beforehand, it’s almost like seeing a sister or brother go up there,” the Wipeout personality said, “Of course you want to see them get Motivated.”

Before we think of this as some inspirational quote, remember that Wipeout has a machine called the Motivator. It’s a swinging pendulum that slams into participants from behind, just so they can hurry up and entertain us more.

Still, that isn’t what Jill Wagner is excited about, if ever she’ll end up on the Wipeout course. She told Hollywood Outbreak: “Before it’s all said and done, I do want to try the Big Balls. And I mean that in the most non-weird sort of way.”3b6e5ea2c299014a jill wagner

81a2a41343g wife Charlie Sheen Pleads Not Guilty To Assaulting WifeActor Charlie Sheen pleaded not guilty on Monday to charges of assaulting his wife, who had previously asked for the case to be dropped.
Sheen, 44, the star of America’s most-watched TV comedy “Two and a Half Men”, entered his plea though his lawyer at a brief court hearing in the ski resort of Aspen.
The court set a July 21 trial date, although Sheen’s wife, Brooke Mueller, has told journalists repeatedly that she would like the case dropped.
Sheen was charged in February with assaulting and threatening Mueller, his third wife, on Dec. 25 during a family vacation in Aspen. Mueller told police Sheen pulled a knife on her and threatened to have her killed when she said she would divorce him. Both had been drinking, according to alcohol tests.
He could face up to three years behind bars if convicted on the charges of felony menacing, misdemeanor assault and criminal mischief. The menacing charge entails the alleged use of a deadly weapon in a threatening manner.
Mueller was not in court with Sheen on Monday but the couple is back together in Los Angeles with their infant twins and attempting to rebuild their two-year-old marriage.
“Charlie looks forward to the trial to clear his name,” Sheen’s publicist Stan Rosenfield told reporters after Monday’s hearing in Aspen.
Production of the CBS show “Two and a Half Men” was halted after Sheen checked into rehab last month for undisclosed reasons. Mueller also spent time in rehab, reportedly for substance abuse.
Executive producer Mark Burg told reporters on Monday that shooting for the four remaining episodes of “Two and a Half Men” this season would resume on Tuesday.

Sheen’s Los Angeles-based spokesman, Stan Rosenfield, would neither confirm nor deny that report, but said the couple “were spending time over Christmas vacation” at a residence of Mueller’s family in Aspen at the time of the arrest.
