MQM delegation calls on Prime Minister Gilani

KARACHI: A delegation of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) called on Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani and discussed him issues relating to law and order in Karachi.

The MQM delegation comprised of Federal Minister Dr. Farooq Sattar, Ports and Shipping Minister Senator Babar Khan Ghauri, former Karachi mayor Mustafa Kamal and Information Technology Minister Raza Haroon.

Sindh Governor Dr. Ishratul Ebad Khan and Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah were also present.

The MQM team apprised the Prime Minister of elements involved in the latest wave of target killings in Karachi. SAMAA

Erdogan calls on Gilani

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan called on Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani and discussed matters relating to flood victims rehabilitation, Dunya News reported Wednesday.
During a meeting at the breakfast table, the two men took stock of flood affectees and other issues of bilateral interest. Gilani thanked his Turkish counterpart for extending help to Pakistan to meet with the post-flood crises.
Tayyip would also visit the flood-ravaged areas where he would be briefed about the reconstruction and rehabilitation plans.

US envoy calls on PM Gilani

US Envoy to Pakistan, Anne W. Paterson called on Prime Minister Gilani in Islamabad.
The envoy was honored with a lunch by the PM. Prime minister applauded the efforts of US envoy for the betterment of relations between US and Pakistan. PM said that during the stay of Ms. Paterson, the amicable relations between the two countries have improved to a comprehensive partnership. The US envoy appreciated Pakistans gradual return to democracy.

Security forces take out 35 militants in SWA

PESHAWAR: Thirty-five militants were killed during clashes with security forces and aerial raids in South Waziristan Agency, Geo News reported.

According to sources, militants attacked a security check post with rockets and modern weapons in Pah Ziarat area of Wana. Security forces repulsed and killed twenty militants while six soldiers sustained injuries.

Fighter jets pounded militants’ positions in Khonkot and Teri Khadizai areas, killing 15 militants and injuring 10 others. Six militants hideouts were also destroyed.

PM, Law Minister discuss appointment of NAB chief

ISLAMABAD: Federal Law Minister Babar Awan called on Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani here on Saturday and discussed Constitutional and legal matters including ongoing hearing of cases in the Supreme Court.

According sources, the appointment of new chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB) also came under discussion at the meeting. However, a final decision in this regard will be made upon return of President Asif Ali Zardari from China.

Holbrooke calls on PM Gilani

ISLAMABAD: US Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan Richard Holbrooke called on Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani on Saturday.

The US envoy and Pakistan Prime Minister discussed promotion of cooperation in war against terrorism and assistance in various sectors.

Prime Minister Gilani during a meeting said that Pakistan facing financial hardships due to the country”s frontline state role in the war against terrorism.

Holbrooke lauded Pakistan”s role in anti-terror war and assured wholehearted support to the country from United States.

Interior, finance, foreign affairs ministers and other top officials also attended the meeting.

The Army Chief briefed the Prime Minister about ongoing military operation. The two also discussed matters regarding upcoming budget and war on terror.

Center not to intervene in internal matters of AJK: Gilani

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has said that the federal government will not interfere in the internal affairs of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

He made this assurance to AJK Prime Minister Raja Hyder Farooq, who called on Prime Minister Gilani at the Parliament House in Islamabad Monday.

Two leaders exchanged views about the ongoing row over Chief Justice of the AJK.

Farooq said that the reference against the Chief Justice was sent in line with the law and constitution.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Gilani said the judicial issues should be resolved according to the Constitution.
