Prime Focus EQR adds ARRI ALEXA to its kitty

Prime Focus’ Equipment Rental Division (EQR) has added ‘Alexa’, the latest state-of-the-art camera from ARRI to its existing fleet of cameras.
The ARRI Alexa, a successor to the D21 digital camera, is geared up to meet the emerging trend of ‘shoot-edit-project’. It saves the worries of having to wait for the dailies to see the result of the shoot, as one can see the rushes at the exact quality required and provides the option of color correction on location itself.

“One of the key attributes of the ARRI ALEXA is that a dump of the files can directly be taken on the Baselight, ready for editing and grading. This saves a lot of time and money as it eliminates the need for telecine”, says Niraj Sanghai – Business Head, EQR, Prime Focus. With the ARRI ALEXA, the LUT of any shot can be generated very quickly, saving further time on color correction.

Owing to its rugged frame and sensitivity, the camera can perform in different climatic conditions and temperatures in India and can capture true colors in bad weather conditions without any noise. Add to this, the camera features simple menu controls and operations that can allow the DOP to play around on location easily – and you get a great product.

Neil Sadwelkar, Head – Technical Operations, Prime Focus says, “There’s, of course, more to the Alexa than just post-production convenience. Its latitude, 35mm sized sensor and compatibility with existing 35mm film lenses are all features that might appeal to the cinematographer and make the camera closer to a film camera. One of the main features of the camera is its dynamic range, which is a boon for all cinematographers and directors”.

Obsession for photo session urges PM to inaugurate project twice

The Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani, due to his obsession for photo session, inaugurated a project twice while he also scolded the Chairman of National Highway Authority (NHA) for coming in front of the camera, Dunya News reported on Thursday.
Although officers ought to oblige the rulers yet sometimes this obligation becomes a source of humiliation for them. Such an incident occurred in Multan when an officer came in front of the camera unintentionally which compelled the prime minister to inaugurate the project twice. The officer was not an ordinary one; in fact he was the Chairman of NHA. The prime minister, who is famous for his impressive dressing and soft way of speech, has proved himself as Mr. Perfectionist. He is always seeking the apex of perfection whether it is an international affair or a local one.
The prime minister inaugurated the project of flyover at Chungi No. 9 in Multan but the Chairman NHA made him re-inaugurate the said project when the photographers insisted that due to the Chairmans unwanted interruption, the PMs snap got blurred or somewhat unclear. However once again the Chairman interrupted in a similar fashion which aroused PMs anger and as a result the prime minister scolded the Chairman but refrained from inaugurating the flyover thrice.

Farah’s triplets reluctantly shoot for Tees Maar Khan

Farah Khan’s kids – Diva, Czar and Anya – have perhaps not been bitten by the glamour world yet. Even though they were enticed enough to face the camera by their mother Farah Khan (who is the one of the most unabashed ‘masala’ film lover that Bollywood boasts of today), the triplets weren’t excited enough. This resulted in a funny shoot for Tees Maar Khan when the director (softly) called ‘action’.

“Poocho mat. I guess the toughest part of my shoot was to capture my kids well on camera”, Farah says in her inimitable manner, “Shirish and my production house is called ‘Three’s Company’ because of these three kids. As is the tradition with my films, I wanted to feature them for the end credit title roll of Tees Maar Khan. However, they just didn’t seem interested.”

What followed was quite some ‘improvisation’ that the Diva, Czar and Anya indulged in.

“Here I was pampering them with all the nice dresses and goodies. There was a special tuxedo that I had got designed for Czar. On the other hand, my daughters Diva and Anya were made to wear these beautiful birthday party dresses”, informs Farah, “While they were getting all dressed up, they were all fine and smiling. However, when I wanted them to put on their best show for camera, they just walked around at their own will.”

“Guess my famed command didn’t quite work with my own kids this time around”, she jokes, “The kind of expression that the three of them had on their faces, they seemed to be wondering who these monkeys behind the camera were.”

Eventually, Farah and Co. decided to retain the shots as is to lend a natural feel to the entire proceeding. “I was glad that the film’s shooting had come to an end”, she smiles.

Would she care to reveal these pictures for audience to know what to expect from the kids? “Well, watch the film for that”, she responds.

But then I thought about how I felt as soon the camera cut from Fallon and Horatio Sanz to Julian backed by the Roots, and all I can remember doing is sitting up in my chair and smiling.  I think most Strokes fans reacted the same way.
