Upgraded Phet to crash into Pakistan Sunday

KARACHI: Meteorological Department said strong tropical cyclone brewing up in Arabian Sea is fast approaching Omani coastline and is at least 200 kilometers from the Sultanate, Geo News reported Thursday.

However, it is expected to roar into Pakistan on Sunday.

The furious Cyclone Phet upgraded to category 4, which is a dangerous sign; however, the storm is quite far from Pakistan at present and it is expected to lose its intensity in degrees below the Category One as it lands the Pakistani coastline.

Phet at present is apace on way with at 115 nautical miles towards Oman and is expected to thrash the Sultanate for three days and consequently will enervate to Category One.

Later on, the weakened storm will head towards Pakistan with lessened force of 34 to 39 NM per hour. The cyclone will pass through Pakistani coastal areas on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.

In the meantime, the coastal areas from Balochistan’s Omara to Iran’s area of Chah Bahar may be lashed by the storm.

Subsequently, the cyclone will morph into windstorm to cause driving rains in Upper Sindh areas. And later on, the windstorm will enter Indian state of Rajasthan.

KARACHI: From a Category 4 storm on Thursday, with sustained winds of over 143mph, the tropical cyclone Phet is expected to become a Category 5 storm in the next 24 hours.

It is diagnosed more frequently in younger women, women with BRCA1 mutations, and belong to African-American and Hispanic ethnic groups.

Hurricane Rick advancing towards Mexico intensifies

MEXICO CITY: Latest updates about Hurricane Rick reached top Category 5 status on Saturday as it barreled up Mexico’s Pacific coast with winds roiling at 160 miles (260 kilometers) per hour, US forecasters said.
The storm roared to the top of the Saffir-Simpson scale after warm waters prompted Rick’s precipitous rise from a Category 1 to a Category 5 system in less than 36 hours.
At 2100 GMT, Rick was around 660 miles (1,065 km) south-southeast of the resort town of Cabo San Lucas as it headed west-northwest at 15 miles (24 km) per hour, parallel to Mexico’s southern coast, the US National Hurricane Center (NHC) said.
It was also 290 miles (470 km) south of Manzanillo, one of the largest ports in the Americas.
The “extremely dangerous” storm was “still strengthening,” the Miami-based monitoring center said, although it cautioned the eye of the storm was expected to remain offshore of Mexico’s southern coast over the weekend.
US forecasters said residents in nearby areas should monitor the hurricane’s progress. Outer rainbands associated with the storm would continue to affect Mexico’s southern coast through the night, the NHC said, along with “potentially dangerous surf conditions” caused by large swells.

Hurricane Bill Upgraded To A Major Category Three Hurricane

MIAMI: Hurricane Bill was upgraded to a major Category Three hurricane Tuesday as its sustained winds increased to near 125 miles (205 kilometers) per hour, the National Hurricane Center said.

A hurricane hunter plane that flew into the Atlantic storm indicated “that Bill has strengthened and maximum sustained winds have increased to near 125 MPH,” the center said in an advisory.

That made Bill “a Category 3 Hurricane on the Saffir/Simpson hurricane scale,” it said.
