Sharif birthday ceremony ends up in mess

MULTAN: A ceremony held here to celebrate 61st anniversary of Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) chief Mian Nawaz Sharif, ended up in fiasco on Saturday.
As soon as cake was cut in connection with the birthday celebrations, N-League workers dived on the cake and several people scooped it with both of their hands, creating the state of commotion.

LAHORE: PML-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain says that he will not join the Muslim League factions if their objective is to attain power.
Speaking at a ceremony held to mark the Allama Iqbal Day in Islamabad today, Hussain said, “Pakistan is passing through a difficult time. If the nation doesn’t unite, only Almighty Allah can save it.”

Punjab govt., US sign agreement

LAHORE: An agreement has been reached between the Punjab government and United States for provision of educational facilities in the flood-ravaged areas of south Punjab.
Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and US ambassador to Pakistan Anne W. Patterson witnessed the pact signing ceremony held here on Saturday.
The Education Secretary told newsmen, “More than 1.4 million students of 7,818 schools will benefit from this pact.”
Speaking on this occasion, Patterson said that reports of mounting differences between Pakistan and the United States were baseless. She said that the US would continue to provide aid for the flood-hit areas of Pakistan.
However, the US envoy did not comment on NATO strikes that killed three Pakistani soldiers. SAMAA
PM addresses Dasti”s election rally
MUZAFFARGARH: Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani Tuesday said that PPP has always rejected deals and back doors and came into power only with the support of the people.
He was addressing a big gathering at Faisal stadium organized as part of election campaign of Jamshed Dasti who is contesting from NA-178, Muzaffargarh.
On March 25, 2010 Dasti announced his resignation in front of the Supreme Court (SC) hearing a case regarding his fake MA Islamiat degree.
A six-judge SC bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Muhammed Chaudhry heard the case filed against his certificate in religious education.
The prime minister also announced a mega uplift package for Muzaffargarh and promised sizable funding for its development in the forthcoming fiscal year.
The premier announced to accept all the development promises made by Benazir Bhutto and those made by the representatives of the people in today”s public meeting.
He also performed ground breaking of Rs 1.25 billion Sui gas supply scheme that would benefit people from Muzaffargarh to Alipur.
He said that free bus service was in operation in Muzaffargarh and it was launched to provide transportation facilities to the poor labourers and peasants free of cost on the recommendations of former MNA Jamshed Ahmad Khan Dasti.
He said that the PPP ticket holder Jamshed Ahmad Dasti is a true representative of the poor labourers and the impoverished, and the people should support him in by-elections.
Khawaja Shahad sworn as Acting AJK CJ
ISLAMABAD: Khawaja Shahad Ahmed has taken oath as the Acting Chief Justice of Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
President AJK Raja Zulqarnain administered oath to the acting chief justice at a ceremony held in Islamabad Tuesday.
The ceremony was attended by AJK Premier Raja Farooq Haider, Muslim Conference chief Sardar Atiq Ahmed, member of AJK cabinet and other dignitaries.
Earlier, the deposed Chief Justice Riaz Chaudhry resigned from his post, saying that he took the decision in the larger interest of AJK.
On the other hand, AJK government has decided to consider the outgoing chief justice as the retired judge.

Two New Supreme Court Judges To Sworn In

ISLAMABAD: The newly appointed judges of the Supreme Court (SC) took oath on Monday in a ceremony held at the Supreme Court here. The number of SC judges now reached to 17.
Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Mohammed Chaudhry has administered the oath to the judges Justice Khilji Arif Hussain, judge high court of Sindh and Justice Rehmat Hussain Jaffery, former judges high court of Sindh. Senior judges and lawyers attended the function.
The oath text included the wordings that judges will follow code of conduct of Supreme Judicial Council (SJC). The code of conduct of SJC has been changed recently which now included that interim constitutional order will not be abide.
