CCI’s new gas policy dears 50pc wellhead price

ISLAMABAD: The meeting of Council of Common Interests (CCI) ratified 50pc raise in the wellhead price of natural gas under the new petroleum policy. It concluded resolving Energy Conference to be convened in Lahore to address longstanding energy crisis, TrendPK reports Friday.

The CCI met under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani here which endorsed recommendation from its members seeking 50pc hike in wellhead price of natural gas to counter prevailing energy shortfall under the next year petroleum policy. 

The approval will make the average wellhead gas price dearer from $04 to $06.

During the meeting, Chief Minister Sindh Qaim Ali Shah took up the issue of delay in release of funds for Thar Coal Project, prompting PM Gilani to direct Finance Secretary to release funds on priority basis.

Wellhead price is the transportation costs charged by the producer for petroleum or natural gas. TrendPK

Load shedding to continue until 2018: WAPDA

The National Assembly Standing Committee for Water and Power meeting was held in Islamabad under the chairmanship of Ghulam Mustafa Shah.

Briefing the committee, Water and Power Development Authority Chairman Shakil Durrani said that Mangla Dam would be filled up to 1210 feet by the end of this year. This will enhance the water storing capacity of the dam by 0.8 million acres.

He said that hydro power cost Rs 1.05 per unit while the power generated by the IPPs cost Rs 10.18 per unit.

He said that hydro power generation saved Rs 41 billion for the national exchequer in 2010.

The WAPDA chairman said that load shedding cannot be overcome until 2018 and power demand would soar to 130,000 megawatt by 2030.

He said that India could not build dams on three western rivers, adding that the 16 kilometre long tunnel of Jhelum Hydro Project had been constructed.

During the meeting, Standing Committee for Water and Power member Sajjadul Hassan said that the power outage of 22 hours a day was unacceptable and the PEPCO office in Okara would be burnt, if load shedding were not stopped.

Hockey and Wushu included in National Games

Hockey and Wushu have been included in the National Games being held from December 25 at Peshswar. This decision was taken at an emergent executive committee meeting of Pakistan Olympic Association which held under the chairmanship of its President, Lt Gen retd Syed Arif Hasan on Friday.

Giving details of the meeting at a news conference, Arif in the presence of Provincial Sports Minister Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa, Syed Aqil Shah, said that both Hockey and Wushu were included because they made the country proud at the Asian Games. Hockey won the gold medal after twenty years and Wushu a chinese style of martial art got a silver.

POA President said now 19 disciplines will be contested int Games for which the organisers have assured top security. Syed Aqil Shah gave a detailed briefing on the security measures to be taken during the games for the safety and security of players and officials. He said POA has constituted a three member evaluation committee to monitor daily progress on the security measures to be taken during the Games.Arif Hasan said Pakistan will take part in handball, kabaddi, bodybuilding and sailing events of the beach Games being held in Muscat from December 10.

Cabinet committee rebukes release of WikiLeaks

In the meeting of Defence Committee of the Cabinet (DCC) under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani, the participants condemned the release of WikiLeaks cables and called it an attempt to spoil the image of Pakistan. Strategy of PMs Afghanistan visit was also finalized in the meeting.

The PM was briefed about the overall situation in Swat and North Waziristan and Kashmir issue also came under discussion. The committee demanded to solve Kashmir dispute as per resolutions of the UN. It emphasized to establish peace in Afghanistan as early as possible. The PM congratulated Army Chief and General Wyne and lauded efforts of Pak army to contain terrorism in the country.

ISLAMABAD: Senator Maulana Mohammad Khan Shervani of Jamiat-e-Ulma-e-Islam on Thursday has accepted the chairmanship of Council of Islamic Ideology (CII).

The JUI senior leader Maulana Abdul Wasih has confirmed that Maulana Shervani had accepted the chairmanship of CII, adding that reservations over the previous notification have been removed.

PCOA threatens movement if demands not met

LAHORE: The Punjab Civil Officers Association (PCOA) has threatened to launch a protest movement from Monday against the provincial government’s failure to implement its demands.

Two months ago, PCOA had threatened to go on strike against the appointment of DMG officers on all key posts in Punjab.

Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif constituted a seven member committee under the chairmanship of Zulfiqar Khosa to resolve the row.

Although the committee accepted almost all the demands made by PCOA, it failed to implement any of them.

On this, PCOA President Rai Manzoor Nasir has given the provincial government two days to implement the demands.

Referring to the posting of Ahmed Cheema of DMG group as Lahore’s DCO, Nasir said that the same officer had already served on Grade 21.

Waqar says never taken into confidence over team selection

In the meeting of National Assemblys Standing Committee for Sports, Chief Selector Mohsan Hassan Khan and Coach Waqar Younas exchanged harsh words. Waqar was of the view that he was never taken into confidence over team selection. Chairman Committee Iqbal Ali Khan announced to take action against PCB chairman over his absence from the meeting.
The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Iqbal Ali Khan in Islamabad. He expressed displeasure over the absence of PCB chairman in the meeting. PCB Chief Operating Officer Waseem Bari said that PCBs General Body meeting was not held during the last two years. Former Manager Yawar Saeed said that Azhar and Mazhar Majeed had no access to the rooms of players. Waqar said that no ball was not a big matter and any bowler can deliver a no ball. Mohsan Hassan said that he was the first selector who takes captain and coach in confidence before selection. While Waqar said that he was never taken into confidence.

CJ seeks high security for judges of High Courts

An important meeting was held in Islamabad under the chairmanship of Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry to improve the security of judges of higher judiciary. It is decided in the meeting to improve the security of judges and their families.
The Chief Justice called the meeting in the Supreme Court after report of alleged assassination plan of Lahore High Court Chief Justice Khawaja Sharif came to surface. Chief Justices of Federal Shariah Court and all four High Courts, Federal Secretary Interior, Punjab Chief Secretary, Home Secretary and Inspector General of Police took part in the meeting. Security of judges of High Courts came under discussion in the meeting.
