Obama says sticking to pull out of Iraq

WASHINGTON: US President Barack Obama left no doubt on Saturday in his weekly radio address that the US is sticking to its promise to pull out of Iraq despite the upsurge in violence.
The US President, addressing the nation from the Massachusetts island retreat of Martha’s Vineyard, where he was on vacation, confirmed that the US combat mission in Iraq would end on Tuesday, and reaffirmed his campaign promise to end the war in Iraq and refocus on Afghanistan as home to the top threats against America.
“As a candidate for this office, I pledged I would end this war”, he said. “As president, that’s what I’m doing. I’ve bought home more than ninety-thousand troops since I took office. We have closed, or turned over to Iraq, hundreds of bases. In many parts of the country Iraqis have already taken the lead for security.”
He emphasised that US troops would continue
Indonesia’s Hidayat reaches final at badminton worlds

PARIS: Indonesian ace Taufik Hidayat fought his way into the men’s singles final at the Badminton World Championships for the first time in five years, beating South Korea’s Park Sung Hwan in straight sets on Saturday.
The former world and Olympic champion took the opening set comfortably 21-10, but seemed under control in the second set.
Trailing 18-20, the seasoned fifth seed managed to come back and win four points in a row, reaching the final for the first time since his title winning moment in 2005.
“I was determined to win the match in two sets,” said the fifth seed Hidayat. “When I fought back to tie in 20-20, I knew I could win the second set.”
Chen Jin watched Hidayat’s match on the stands as the fourth seed from China reached the final first by beating world No. 2 Peter Gade from Denmark.

HELSINKI: A Russian man trying to win the Sauna World Championships died after collapsing with severe burns in the final stage of an event that required contestants to sit in a 230-degree (110 Celsius) room as water was tossed onto a searing stove, officials and witnesses said.

Indy 500 Schedule:This is a great weekend with Indy 500 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and his home is a few hours. On Sunday May 30, ABC will begin its Indy 500 TV hours at noon Eastern time, with a preview and*n*lysis show the race 94th in the Brickyard.

PROVIDENCE: Chris Gayle”s decision to field first backfired as England posted a massive 191-5 on Monday. Eoin Morgan (55) and Luke Wright (45 not out) added 95 runs in less than 10 overs after a flying start to their innings.
Gayle and Sulieman Benn returned for hosts West Indies as they elected to field against England in a Group D game of the World T20 Championships on Monday.
West Indies beat the Ireland in their previous game while England play their first game on Monday.

Baseball has employed various championship formulas since the 1860s. When the term “World Series” is used by itself, is usually refer to the “modern” World Series exclusively. The World Series championship is determined through a best of seven playoff games. To the best of seven format has been the modern world all series except 1903, 1919, 1920 and 1921, when the winner was determined through a best of nine playoff. The winner of the series is awarded the World Series trophy, as well as individual World Series rings.
New York Yankees American League have played in 40 of the Series 104 to 2009 and have won 26 World Series championships the most of any major league franchise, and exactly one quarter of all Series titles World livestock to date. With his frequent appearances in the Fall Classic, the Yankees have lost more in the series (13) than any other club.
