Daylight Savings Time Change Fall 2010

46a29ee18cl 2010.jpg Daylight Savings Time Change Fall 2010Daylight Savings Time Change Fall 2010, Time Change Fall 2010 is upon us which means that you should remember to set your watches, clocks gadgets and alarm clocks back one hour this weekend if you live in Europe (when it is 3 AM on Sunday it will actually be 2 AM) and for those who live in America and in Canada the big change will take place on Sunday, November 7, 2010 at at 7.30 PM IST (6 AM EST)

No matter where you live, you will gain an extra hour of sleep. Despite the fact that the process has been taking place for 35 years now, but twice a year people in 70 countries who have adopted this system still pose the same age old question – are we switching to summer time or winter time before fixing their clocks.

In spring, the government decided to advance the legal time 60 minutes. In the fall, we get back to the usual time. But do you ever wonder why does the time change biannually?

The concept of daylight saving time and winter time was permanently established in 70 countries in 1975, just after the first oil crisis (1974).

By adjusting the official local time from an hour to standard time zone the countries were able to save energy. The concept allowed people to schedule activities while the sun was shinning in order limit the usage of artificial lighting.

But no invention is perfect. Many experts claimed that the concept has a negative impact on our health.

The main criticism from health professionals is the abrupt change in biological rhythms that occurs (especially for children) when the change takes place it is unhealthy and can cause people to experience health problems.

Some studies have shown that some individuals may have trouble sleeping (when switching to daylight saving time is one hour less sleep), experience lost of appetite, or mood swings.

Some environmentalists also believe that the process contributes to the already increasing air pollution level.

However there are so many studies that contradict the two previous findings that one would have to conclude that the changing of time has too little effects to actually cause any health or environmental issue.

Taliban pulled from Medal of Honor game

Electronic Arts has given in to protests and pulled the ability to play as Taliban fighters from its upcoming Medal of Honor video game.
The game, which is being released for the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on Oct. 12, is set in the early stages of the current Afghanistan conflict. It was to allow gamers to fight as Taliban against U.S. and allied troops in its online multiplayer mode, a feature that sparked criticism from some military officials and families of soldiers who have died in Afghanistan.
Critics said allowing people to play as the enemies in a current conflict would be insensitive to the families of soldiers who have died.
The Redwood City, Calif.-based company relented Friday and said it will cosmetically change the feature so that players will instead control generically named fighters.
Because the heartbeat of Medal of Honor has always resided in the reverence for American and allied soldiers, we have decided to rename the opposing team in Medal of Honor multiplayer from Taliban to Opposing Force, executive producer Greg Goodrich said in a statement on the game’s website. While this change should not directly affect gamers, as it does not fundamentally alter the gameplay, we are making this change for the men and women serving in the military and for the families of those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice this franchise will never willfully disrespect, intentionally or otherwise, your memory and service.
Gamers were divided on the change. Some criticized the company for setting the game in a current conflict in the first place. I just do not feel right knowing I am buying a game about a current war going on to loin sic the pockets of EA executives with money, said one gamer in a Gamespot forum.
Others were critical of the company for backing down. What a contradiction of what this game means, wrote a gamer. This whole time they were preaching about realism and they can’t even say who the enemies are. Many gamers also accused the media of practising a double standard. Films such as last year’s The Hurt Locker set during the conflict in Iraq can win best-picture awards while video games dealing with similar topics evoke controversy. EA president Frank Gibeau commented on that trend in August. At EA we passionately believe games are an art form, and I dont know why films and books set in Afghanistan dont get flak, yet games do, he told the Develop-Online website. Whether its Red Badge Of Courage or The Hurt Locker, the media of its time can be a platform for the people who wish to tell their stories. Games are becoming that platform. The new Medal of Honor game is a reboot of the long-running series, which was created by film director Steven Spielberg and saw its first release on the original PlayStation in 1999. All of the games in the series have taken place during the Second World War, with the new game representing the first time a new setting has been used. The switch to using Opposing Force brings Medal of Honor closer to another successful war game franchise, Activision’s Call of Duty. The most recent game in that series, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 released a year ago used fictional Middle Eastern characters in its multiplayer mode also named OpFor. Japan’s Konami drew similar criticism last year over Six Days in Fallujah, a game it planned on developing in conjunction with Iraq war veterans. The company dropped plans for the game just over a month after announcing it.

Just sometime back, in fact just in August, it was announced that Kangna Ranaut would be starring in Deepa Mehta’s adaptation of the novel Midnight’s Children by Salman Rushdie. However, time changes a lot and so has the star cast of this film.

The latest is that Kangna has dropped out of the said project. Kangna’s spokesperson said, “Yes Kangna has actually opted out of the film Midnight’s Children which is being made by Deepa Mehta. The reason for this change is Kangna is really busy and her dates are clashing with that of Deepa’s film.”

With Kangna out of the film, Deepa will probably have to go star hunting once again in Bollywood.

cead7d39b2erpae1 Leander Paes to make his Bollywood debut with Rajdhani Express

Leander Paes has been the flag-bearer and the sports magnet for the game of tennis in India. His passionate and lionhearted performances whenever he’s played for India, has established him as the action man of Indian tennis. But Leander will soon be seen in a new avatar in the glamourous world of Bollywood.

Yes…you heard it right. Leander will be making his Bollywood debut in Rajdhani Express directed by Ashok Kohli. The film has him playing the role of a common man.

Leander has always been an admirer of Mahatma Gandhi, and when he read the script, it struck a chord in him, as it reflected Gandhiji’s immortal words “Be the Change that you would like to see in the world” in an entertaining and engaging way.

Leander has been receiving film offers since1996, but he was too engrossed in tennis and self admittedly, not ‘ready’ to take the plunge. However, he has always been an avid film lover and feels that films do have the power to transport you to an exhilarating world. The tennis sensation believes that his ability to connect with people will serve him good in the world of cinema too. Besides the noted Bengali Poet and dramatist Michael Madhusudan Dutt is his ancestor, so he does have some acting talent in his genes.

It will be interesting to see if this tennis champ who has won many hearts with his on-field performance has yet another ‘ace’ up his sleeve with Rajdhani Express.
