VIENNA: If you’ve ever wanted to eat sweets disgorged from the chests of royalty, your time has come.
PEZ, the Austrian company whose candy dispensers are known around the world, has created a special pair in the likeness of Prince William and his fiancee Kate Middleton ahead of next month’s royal wedding.
Fans of the royal couple or of Pez figurines can submit offers on the eBay for Charity auction platform from April 7 to 17. Proceeds will go to a charity supported by the couple, the company said on Tuesday.
PEZ makes around 80 million dispensers and 4.6 billion sweets a year, but unlike other popular models the William and Kate figurines will not dispense sweets through their mouths.
“The whole head bends back,” the spokeswoman said.
The smiling figure of Kate wears blue while William dresses in black with a red tie.
“The figure of Prince William has a lot more hair than in real life,” the spokeswoman said. AGENCIES

GENEVA: Twin epidemics of AIDS and tuberculosis are ravaging Swaziland, helping to halve life expectancy to 31 years, Medecins Sans Frontieres said Thursday, warning of a health emergency.
“The co-epidemic has contributed substantially to a halving of life expectancy within two decades — from 60 years in the 1990s to 31 in 2007,” said the Geneva-headquartered medical charity.
Swaziland has the highest rate of HIV infection in the world at 26.1 percent, it said, adding more than 80 percent of people suffering from tuberculosis were also infected with HIV.
It was also struggling with a growing number of cases of multiresistant tuberculosis, a particularly dangerous form of the disease which makes up 7.7 percent of all new cases in 2009 and 2010, the charity said.
“In a context where the HIV/TB co-epidemic threatens to wipe out generations of Swazis,

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s displaced flood victims say a lack of clean water and high temperatures are causing illnesses sweeping through relief camps with children most at risk.
Almost five million people are currently without shelter following devastating flooding sparked more than a month ago by heavy monsoon rains.
“They are scared, traumatized,” said Bibi Luqmania, 30, whose four children live with her in a tent donated by the charity Islamic Relief. “And it’s so hot in the tent, they cannot stand it. It becomes like an oven during the day.”
Luqmania is one of 400,000 people displaced by the flooding in the Khyber-Pukhtunkwa district of Nowshera, and now lives in the Khandar 1 camp established at the Khandar Technical College.
Seventeen million Pakistanis have been affected and the United Nations says only 64 percent of the funds required to meet the
Anees Bazmee’s Salman-Asin starrer Ready to be shot in Sri Lanka

Even before the hangover of a spectacular Videocon IIFA Weekend 2010 subsides, it seems like the host country, Sri Lanka, has already begun reaping the benefits of playing host to IIFA’s magnificent 11th edition. Recognizing the gorgeousness of the island nation, and the welcoming warmth received by the Indian Film Fraternity during another magical IIFA weekend, Anees Bazmee’s new film Ready, produced by T-Series and starring Salman Khan and Asin in lead roles, will now be filmed in Sri Lanka, beginning 20th June, 2010. The movie’s location for shooting was originally scheduled to be Mauritius, but after enjoying a beautiful locale like Colombo during the Videocon IIFA Weekend, there was much enthusiasm to change the location to Sri Lanka
It may be recalled that in the absence of the Bachchan parivar and Shah Rukh Khan at the recently held IIFA weekend in Colombo, it was none other than Salman Khan who was the main attraction at this extravaganza. The actor, who played a key role in the IIFA Hands for Humanity Project, as the Brand Ambassador for Charity, thoroughly appreciated the kindness and generosity of the Sri Lankans and claims to be thrilled about returning to the neighbouring island.
Sri Lanka is undoubtedly excited to welcome the whole cast of Ready. It seems like the exuberant aura of Sri Lanka, that received global recognition at the Videocon IIFA Weekend will prove to be a big plus for this host country in the days to come.
Aishwarya pays surprise visit to Abhishek

Normally, the Bachchans have a very rigid rule about not mixing business with pleasure. But on Thursday morning, when Aishwarya Rai Bachchan landed in Mumbai from Paris, she broke the golden rule when she dropped in unannounced to meet Abhishek at the Reliance Web World where he was doing out-of-town press interviews.
Says a source, “Lately, Abhishek and Aishwarya have had very little time to spend together. After their short anniversary holiday, Abhishek got busy with the shooting of Abhinay Deo’s Game in Greece, while, Aishwarya returned to India for a stint of Robot. She was then in Paris to honour Brazilian tennis champ Gustavo Kuerten for his work with disadvantaged children.”
Says a source, “At the charity dinner that followed, Aishwarya bonded with Steffi Graf and Mary Pierce, and kept missing Abhishek because he was a big fan of both.”
The minute she landed in Mumbai from Paris, Aishwarya asked the family driver to take her wherever Abhishek was. A first for her, because, normally she doesn’t intrude when her husband is working. Even when she joins him on long outdoors, she never hangs around the sets when he’s shooting.
Says a friend of Aishwarya, “This time, she made an exception because she was missing Abhishek all the way from Paris to Mumbai. And besides, Abhishek was doing promotional work for their film together. She not only met him, she also joined impromptu to talk to their fans on radio in Jaipur and Ahmedabad.”
Says a family friend, “The funny part is that the Bachchans are never together these days. Now that Aishwarya is home, the senior Bachchan has left for Paris, the city that Aishwarya left yesterday.”
