Sunny Deol’s back problem delays Yamla Pagla Deewana shoot

ffe4702280nydeol Sunny Deols back problem delays Yamla Pagla Deewana shoot

There seems to be no end to Sunny Deol’s troubles. He’s back again in bed for a prolonged rest with his chronic back problem. And to compound his woes this time stones in his kidney were also detected.

Director Samir Karnik who’s making a family film for and with the Deols entitled Yamla Pagla Deewana is in a fix. Just when he needed to shoot a high-voltage action sequence with Sunny, the actor with a chronic back problem is laid up with a back problem thereby putting a question mark on the action sequence.

Now Karnik has no choice but to push forward the action sequence indefinitely and proceed with the post-production of the film.

Informs Karnik, “Everything except the action sequence is done. Now I’m going ahead with the post-production. I’ll wait for Sunny to recover.”

That is easier said than done. Along with his back problem, Sunny also had stones in his kidney which he has currently gone to the US to get removed.

Says Karnik, “But for his back problem there’s no remedy except complete bed rest. So even after the stones were removed by injection in the US, Sunny is still bedridden until his back is completely healed.”

Even then would Sunny be able to perform the stunt for Karnik’s film? Says Karnik, “I’ll wait. I’ve planned Ghayal kind of stunts for Sunny with the Ghajini action director Peter Heines. And if he is not up to it, I’ll cancel the action sequence. But I’m told after bed rest, Sunny’s back will be as good as new.”

Sunny Deol’s back problem can easily be considered chronic. For many years he has quietly and not so quietly suffering from a chronic back problem.

On many occasions in his career recently, Sunny has been laid off because of his back. This is his fourth enforced holiday due to his back. How long it lasts depends entirely on Nature.

Incidentally, Akshay Kumar also has a chronic back problem which he recently solved with water- therapy treatment in Germany. Shah Rukh Khan too suffers from a bad back.

0dc08dc3a7bigb1 Big B to promote Champions League T20 tournament on ESPN

In India, they say that there are just two things people thrive on: Cricket and Bollywood. In a country where ‘Cricket is not a game, but a religion’ and the legendary man called Amitabh Bachchan is considered as God, one can only imagine what to expect when these two come together!
Amitabh Bachchan has now been signed up to endorse the sports channel ESPN and will be promoting the forthcoming Champions League T20 cricket tournament on the channel. The tournament is going to be held this year in South Africa from Sept 10 onwards. Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore are the three teams from India that will take part in this tournament.
Confirming this news, Big B writes in his blog, “I have been signed on to endorse ESPN for the Champions League Cricket T20 tournament to be held in South Africa in September. And because of paucity of time we had to shoot all the promotional films and stills for print and short seconders for TV and dub it by the evening in order that they are able to release the publicity soon. Thankfully it has all gone off well and I have just completed the dub for what we shot in the morning. But the rush and the speed with which it all had to be done was some kind of a marvel.”
With Big B adding his magic touch to this eagerly awaited cricketing extravaganza, the excitement only doubles up.

COLOMBO: Sri Lanka”s world record bowler Muttiah Muralitharan will retire from Test cricket after his country”s first Test against India later this month, the governing body of the sport said Tuesday.

“Muttiah Muralitharan has decided to retire from Test cricket after the first Test in Galle versus India commencing July 18,” Sri Lanka Cricket said on its website.

Muralitharan, 38, who is affectionately known as Murali, is the most successful bowler in history with a record 792 Test wickets and 515 one-day international wickets.

Sri Lanka Cricket said he had the blessing of President Mahinda Rajapakse to retire early, although he had previously said he wanted to remain until the 2011 World Cup.

Murali”s manager, Kushil Gunasekara, said the star spinner had decided to take early retirement from Test cricket as he could no longer keep up with the demands of the longer form of the game.

“He decided to fast-track his decision because he realised that his body could not take the vigorous kind of physical demands of a five-day match,” Gunasekara said.

“The best time to go is when you know that you can”t do it the way you did
before.”

He said Murali had originally wanted to play Test cricket at least till the West Indies tour of Sri Lanka later this year.

“Everything in life has an expiry date,” Gunasekara said, adding that the world”s greatest Test wicket-taker may be available for the 2011 World Cup.

“I think, probably, he will be available for the 2011 World Cup,” he said adding, however, that there was no finality on that.

Muralitharan was a member of Sri Lanka”s World Cup winning team in 1996. He has played 132 Tests, 337 ODIs and 11 Twenty20 matches.

Inquiry against Modi, Amin named interim chief IPL

April 26, 2010 by

MUMBAI: Indian cricket authorities suspended the head and driving force behind the money-spinning IPL tournament on Monday in a bid to stem an escalating crisis over corruption and match-fixing allegations.

Businessman Chirayu Amin, who runs a pharmaceutical business in the western city of Vadodara, has been named the interim chief of the IPL. He is one of the five vice-presidents of the BCCI and a member of the IPL”s governing council.

After a week of intense speculation that Indian Premier League boss Lalit Modi faced the axe, the news came just hours after the final on Sunday night of a tournament he built into a multi-billion-dollar industry.

The BCCI, which owns the IPL, nevertheless accuses Modi of “alleged acts of individual misdemeanours” and is scrutinising his financial dealings in relation to the tournament, which began in 2008.

The seeds of his downfall were sown two weeks ago when he revealed the ownership details of a new franchise set to join the glitzy and globally popular IPL in 2011.

Writing on micro-blogging site Twitter, he embarrassed a high-profile member of the government, junior foreign minister Shashi Tharoor, by leaking how Tharoor”s girlfriend had been given a free stake in the new team.

Under pressure from the opposition, which accused Tharoor of misusing his office to secure benefit for himself, the minister was forced to resign, embarrassing the Congress-led government.

Since then, the finance ministry has launched a wide-ranging tax probe into the IPL, the BCCI and its franchise owners — powerful business and Bollywood figures — and many blame Modi for bringing the tax man to their door.

The investigation has sparked a media frenzy, with daily leaks — though nothing has been proved so far — about Modi”s unpaid tax liabilities, general corruption in the game, kickbacks and even possible match-fixing.

Result rigging is a particularly dangerous slur on the subcontinent after investigators unearthed widespread illegal betting and corruption by Indian bookmakers and some leading players in 2000.

The 2010 version of the annual IPL tournament finished with a drama-filled final in front of 50,000 fans on Sunday who saw the Chennai Super Kings beat favourites Mumbai Indians in their home city.
