IAF Chopper Crashes in Jammu and Kashmir

Kashmir: IAF Chopper Crashes in Jammu and Kashmir, A helicopter of Indian Air Force on Friday crashed and sank in the river Chenab in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir.

It is feared that the victims in the crash, said Deputy Commissioner Sharifudeen.

The helicopter of the IAF, which was in a regular outlet, flew low over the Chenab river when it got caught in a fire in a jumper cable and crashed into the water reservoir of the Baglihar hydroelectric power project in Tringel in the district of Doda.

The exact number on board the helicopter is not known as the helicopter has plunged into the water body.

A rescue operation was launched by the army and the police said.

AP CM YS Rajasekhara Redddy Dead In Chopper Crash

NEW DELHI: Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy has died in an air crash, the Prime Minister’s Office said on Thursday.

The bodies of 60-year-old Reddy, who led his Congress party to a spectacular second consecutive victory in the Lok Sabha and Assembly polls, and his Special Secretary P Subramanyam, chief security officer A S C Wesley, pilot Group Captain S K Bhatia and co-pilot M S Reddy were found on Rudrakonda Hill, 40 nautical miles east of here, besides the mangled remains of the helicopter.

Highly placed Congress sources in Delhi said that the bodies have been found and an official statement is expected shortly.

The Union Cabinet is meeting to discuss the matter.

Andhra Pradesh finance minister K Rosaiah has been appointed caretaker CM.

The helicopter carrying YSR Reddy, two of his staff and two pilots went missing in pouring rain Wednesday morning over the Naxal and tiger-infested Nalamalla forests.

Nearly 24 hours after YSR’s chopper went missing, it was located atop Serai Salem hill, at a distance 40 nautical miles (70 kms) east of Kurnool.

The CM left Hyderabad on a six-seater Bell chopper at 8.35am for Chittoor accompanied by his secretary and chief security officer. After 9.27am, radio contact was lost with the helicopter.

Soon after the chopper lost contact, multiple agencies of the state launched a massive hunt for possible wreckage in the desolate terrain. By evening, it expanded into the country’s biggest-ever search operation with satellites in the sky joining remote sensing aircraft, fighter jets, unmanned aerial vehicles, troops on the ground and even barefoot deer-hunting tribals with bows and arrows.

AP CM Missing – Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister missing, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Rajasekhar Reddy’s helicopter went missing on its way to Chittoor district.

“The chief minister’s chopper still remains untraced,” K. Rosiah, the state finance minister said in Hyderabad.

“I am appealing to people to please help us in search operations,” he said, hours after the air traffic control room lost contact with the helicopter in bad weather.

Air Force officials said five helicopters were scanning the state’s Kurnool and Chittor districts for the missing chopper.

“So far, we have not found it,” Wing Commander T.K. Singha, told Reuters in New Delhi.

Media reports said that the helicopter, that took off from Hyderabad earlier in the day, has landed safely in Kurnool district, though chief minister’s whereabouts are not still known.

An army chopper has been despatched to comb the forest area of Kurnool district where it is believed to have disappeared.

The CM’s helicopter had gone off the radar for a while due to heavy rains while on its way to Chittoor district. It was forced to make an emergency landing due to the bad weather, police and Air Traffic Control (ATC) sources said.

But a private TV channel Times Now reported that the police chief has not officially confirmed the chopper’s safe landing.

The state machinery swung into action to trace the missing chopper and Chittoor district collector and other top officials frantically tried to establish contact with the Chief minister’s aides accompanying him.
