Guangzhou: After two weeks of intense competition, China will bring down the curtains on the 16th Asian Games with a well-planned closing ceremony here tonight.
Performances at tonight’s closing function at the Haixinsha Square on the Pearl River — the same site as the opening ceremony on November 12. Ceremony will conclude after about three hours with the official hand-over of the flag to 2014 Asian Games organizers Incheon, South Korea.
Tickets for the closing ceremony have been priced between 2,000 to 8,000 Yuan.

Woods provides some late fireworks to finish on a high

MELBOURNE: Tiger Woods provided some fireworks over his closing holes to shoot his best round of the week, a six-under-par 65, at the Australian Masters on Sunday.
The 34-year-old American, who had entered the final round 10 shots behind leader Adam Bland, went into the Victoria Golf Club clubhouse just three back of the Australian, who was one over for the day after 11 holes for a total of 10-under-par.
Bland’s playing partner Daniel Gaunt and fellow Australian Stuart Appleby were tied for second at eight under.
Woods, who was reportedly paid a $3 million appearance fee, produced some excitement down the stretch, highlighted by an eagle two at the par-four 15th, a birdie on the par-five 17th and an eagle three on the par-five 18th to finish on seven-under 277.

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan has kept the decision of 18th Amendment case reserved for the appropriate time after completing its hearing on Thursday.
Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry said in his closing remarks that the decision will be made public at an appropriate time.
A largest ever bench of Supreme Court, comprising 17 members, continued the hearing of the case. The Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry headed the bench.
Earlier, counsel Rashid A Rizvi completed his argument and later on counsel Abdul Hafiz Pir Zada finalized his debate.
During hearing, Justice Ramday passed remarks that the Great Britain made a commission to keep administration away from the judiciary but in our country a commission is being formed to send judiciary in the home of the administration.

”I”ve become a football fanatic” at World Cup: Shakira
JOHANNESBURG: Colombian superstar Shakira said Saturday that following the World Cup in South Africa has made her “a football fanatic.”
“I really never in my life imagined that I would go straight to the sports section in the newspaper,” she told journalists ahead of Sunday”s final.
“I”ve become a football fanatic.”
Shakira, who wrote the official World Cup song “Waka Waka”, will play at the closing ceremony ahead of the title match between the Netherlands and Spain.
She also played at a kick-off concert the night before the opening match.
“This has been one of the happiest months of my life, and one of the most exciting ones,” she said of following the World Cup.
The closing ceremony, which begins at 1630 GMT Sunday, will also include performances by South African groups Freshlyground and Ladysmith Black Mambazo,
organisers said.
KSE-100 Index hits 19-month high at 10,416
KARACHI: Continued foreign investment in the local stocks Friday pushed the benchmark KSE-100 Index up by 170 points to a 19-month high at 10,416.
The main Index began its march ahead with green numbers and sustained the positive trend throughout the two sessions. The Index touched the intra-day high level at 10,430 but closed a bit lower at 10,416 at the closing bell which is the highest level since August 2008.
The investors were seen taking particular interest in fertilizer and banking sectors.
The market turnover was recorded at 200 million shares with TRG Pakistan hitting the top slot in the list of today’s volume leaders at Rs4.25 with a gain of paisas 42.
On the other hand, KSE-30 Index climbed 181 points to finish at 10,680.

SINGAPORE: Oil prices hovered above $79 a barrel Thursday in Asia as investors eyed signs that U.S. crude demand remains weak.
Benchmark crude for December delivery was down 2 cents to $79.26a barrel at midday Singapore time in electronic trading on the NewYork Mercantile Exchange. The contract added 23 cents to settle at$79.28 on Wednesday.
In other Nymex trading, heating oil was steady at $2.05 a gallon. Gasoline for December delivery held at $2.00 a gallon. Natural gasfor December delivery fell 2.3 cents to $4.48 per 1,000 cubic feet.
In London, Brent crude for December delivery rose 1 cent to$77.96 on the ICE Futures exchange.

KARACHI: Gold prices continued to climb in electronic trading on Thursday, with December gold reaching a contract high of more than $1,122 an ounce on bets that demand for the precious metal will remain strong against an extended backdrop of low interest rates.
As of Wednesday, December gold has posted gains in every New York trading session so far this month, up $74.20 from the closing level of $1,040.40 on Oct. 30.
Gold for December delivery climbed as high as $1,122.30 an ounce by Thursday afternoon in Tokyo a fresh record high for the contract. It was last up $7.20 at $1,121.80.
The contract finished at a record of $1,114.60, up $12.10, or 1%, on Wednesday at the New York Mercantile Exchange.
