Chappell turns down Pakistan offer
Former Australia captain Greg Chappell has declined to coach Pakistan national team.
“I received a call from Wasim Bari, the Chief Operating Officer (COO) Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), offering me to take up the coaching assignment with the national team. However, I have politely turned down the offer,” Cricdb quoted as Chappell saying.
“I am not refusing the PCB offer over any security concern in Pakistan”, Chappell added. He has worked as a consultant at Pakistan’s National Cricket Academy. “I have now no desire to be associated with any international side. My time was there and has gone. I am happy where I am and want to be committed to my present job”, he further added.
He was appointed coach of the India national cricket team on a 2 year contract in 2005. However, a series of controversies and personality clashes, combined with India’s poor performance at the 2007 Cricket World Cup led to his resignation from the position on 4 April 2007.
Chappell currently working as the Head Coach of the Cricket Australia Centre of Excellence (COE). His contract with Cricket Australia (CA) runs till the middle of 2011. “My priority is to be committed with the academy”, he emphasised.
