PESHAWAR: Health specialists expressing the concerns over the issue on Wednesday said that 16 HIV positive cases are being confirmed in Khbyer-Pakhtunkhwa by each month.
During a seminar held at the Government Frontier College for Women Peshawar, they said that according to the statistics, 620 AIDS positive cases were confirmed in 2010 in the provinces including the tribal areas. They said that the figure increases by each month.

WASHINGTON: Sanctions against Iran are biting hard and triggering divisions among its leadership, U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates said on Tuesday, as he argued against a military strike over Tehran’s nuclear program.
Iran has agreed to meet with a representative of the six big powers for the first time in more than a year over its uranium enrichment drive, but diplomats and analysts see little chance of a breakthrough in the long-running dispute.
Gates said he saw little choice, however, to pursuing a political strategy that includes sanctions and renewed his concerns that a military strike would only delay Iranian nuclear capabilities by two or three years.
He added that sanctions “have really bitten much harder than (Iranian leadership) anticipated,” and suggested Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was increasingly at odds with Supreme Leader

KARACHI: Sindh Home Minister Dr Zulifqar Ali Mirza has announced head money for 118 criminals involved in the target killings and other serious crimes.

Altaf demands better arrangements for dengue patients

LONDON/KARACHI: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain expressing his concerns on the rapid spread of dengue in the country, demanded the government to make proper arrangements for the patients.
According to a statement issued from the MQM London Secretariat on Sunday, he demanded President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani to take proper measures throughout the country. Indian Army Chief General V.K Singh has said that the nuclear assets of Pakistan are secured properly and there are no threats to the nuclear weapons.
After a controversial statement a few days ago, the Indian Army Chief has gone the other way round by declaring the nukes of Pakistan safe and without any threats. He also said that a lot of concerns prevail all around the world regarding their safety and security but the concerns lack substance. General Singh said that Pakistan has made unusual arrangements for the security of these weapons upon global concerns.
Earlier General V.K.Singh had said, a few days ago, that Pakistan is a threat to Indias security while Pakistan had termed this statement as irrational, illogical and aggressive.

Altaf stops Governor Ebad from resigning

ISLAMABAD: MQM chief Altaf Husain barred Ishratul Ebad from resigning as Sindh’s Governor after President Asif Ali Zardari’s promised to address the concerns of his coalition party.
Earlier, President Asif Ali Zardari held a one-on-one meeting with Sindh’s Governor Ishratul Ebad in Islamabad.
According to sources, Governor Ebad appraised the President of MQM’s decision to part ways with the government. However, President Zardari refused to accept Ebad’s resignation.
Deploring the incidents of target killings in Karachi, the President said that an impartial inquiry would be conducted into the violence.
He said that people involved in target killings would be brought to the court of law.

ANP demands by-polls under army in Karachi

ISLAMABAD: Awami National Party (ANP) has demanded for the government to call the army for by-polls in Karachi.
After his meeting with the Secretary of Election Commission of Pakistan, Senator Haji Adeel told media persons that his party wanted fair and transparent by-polls. But, he added, Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has spread fear in the city.
He said that people will not cast their votes in this situation.
Haji Adeel said that soon he will meet Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, adding that ANP candidate Pir Riaz Gul has written letters to Sindh’s Chief Secretary and the provincial government expressing his concerns over the election. SAMAA
