The Jagjit Singh concert to be organised on his birthday
The Jagjit Singh concert on Feb 8 on the occasion of the Ghazal maestro’s 71st birthday has earned the wholehearted approval of the Ghazal maestro’s wife. In fact, Sabbas Joseph of Wizcraft says the event organizers made sure to have her approval before organizing the concert in memoriam.
Says Sabbas, “We thought it was only right that we should get Chitraji’s blessings. This concert where some of our finest singers will pay a vocal tribute to Jagjit Saab is being done for no commercial purposes. Only out of everyone’s love for Jagjit Saab’s artistry. Just a day before he passed away, Jagjit Saab was supposed to attend the GIMA (Global Indian Music Academy Awards). He had called to tell us he was feeling unwell. And then he was no more. This concert in his memory couldn’t be done without Chitraji’s approval. When we visited Chitraji she gave us her wholehearted support and approval.”
Sabbas also adds that Chitra Singh is expected to be present to watch some of the biggest names in our music world from Ghulam Ali and Talat Aziz to Kavita Krishnamurthy and L. Subramaniam sing Jagjit’s numbers.
“As of now Chitraji is expected to attend the concert,” said Sabbas Joseph. However, when contacted Chitra Singh sounded extremely cut off from the event. “I’ve nothing to do with it. Please speak to Wizcraft. I am in no way involved.”
Baffling, to say the least.
In spite of her initial approval of the Jagjit Singh charity concert being organized by Wizcraft on his 71st birth anniversary on Feb 8, the Ghazal maestro’s widow Chitra Singh very curtly informs us that she has nothing to do with the concert.

On Monday, singer-actor Atif Aslam got a treatment of superstardom, which has left him with a very bitter taste. What happened was, post his concert at the Alhamra Cultural Complex in Lahore, Pakistan, three young girls were killed and dozens more injured in a stampede. A battalion of students of the Punjab College of Commerce (owned by Dunya TV chief Mian Amer Mahmood) had come to witness his concert, when the stampede took place.
Reportedly, when the concert ended, some girls rushed towards Atif to get his autograph. In an attempt to save him from the crowd, the security guards resorted to a light baton charge, which caused panic among the girls. And when the students rushed to the exit, the stampede occurred.
Reports have it that a large number of students were injured or fell unconscious. While the injured were taken to nearby hospitals, three girl students were declared dead and the condition of five injured persons is still critical. The Chief Minister of Punjab (Pakistan) Shahbaz Sharif has ordered an inquiry into the incident.

Rain on my parade news updates :- “Don’t Rain On My Parade” is a popular song from the 1964 musical Funny Girl. It was also featured in the 1968 movie version of the musical. The song was written by Bob Merrill and Jule Styne. Both the movie and stage versions feature Barbra Streisand performing the song. It has since become one of her signature tunes.
Streisand has sung this song live on many occasions, including during her highly successful comeback tour Barbra Streisand: The Concert Tour (1993-1994), Timeless Live In Concert Tour (1999-2000) and the recent Streisand: The Tour (2006-2007). The instrumental of this song can be heard during the Overture of the stage show, the film and on Streisand’s 2006-2007 Tour.
FANNY BRICE ( Rain on my parade )
Don’t tell me not to live, just sit and putter
Life’s candy and the sun’s a ball of butter
Don’t bring around a cloud to rain on my parade
Don’t tell me not to fly, I simply got to
If someone takes a spill, it’s me and not you
Who told you you’re allowed to rain on my parade
I’ll march my band out, I’ll beat my drum
And if I’m fanned out, your turn at bat, sir
At least I didn’t fake it, hat, sir
I guess I didn’t make it
But whether I’m the rose of sheer perfection
A freckle on the nose of life’s complexion
The Cinderella or the shine apple of its eye
I gotta fly once, I gotta try once,
Only can die once, right, sir?
Ooh, life is juicy, juicy and you see,
I gotta have my bite, sir.
Get ready for me love, ’cause I’m a “comer”
I simply gotta march, my heart’s a drummer
Don’t bring around the cloud to rain on my parade,
I’m gonna live and live NOW!
Get what I want, I know how!
One roll for the whole shebang!
One throw that bell will go clang,
Eye on the target and wham,
One shot, one gun shot and bam!
Hey, Mr. Arnstein, here I am …
I’ll march my band out, I will beat my drum,
And if I’m fanned out, your turn at bat, sir,
At least I didn’t fake it, hat, sir,
I guess I didn’t make it
Get ready for me love, ’cause I’m a “comer”
I simply gotta march, my heart’s a drummer
Nobody, no, nobody, is gonna rain on my parade!

No longer attract the country’s largest and rarely its participants will play in the NFL on Sundays, but Penn’s Franklin Field, home of Harvard and Yale Bowl stand as monuments to the past.
Photos yellowish allusion to their history, but only tell part of the story. What those photos do not reveal is how visionaries turned a bloody mess of a game in the most popular sport in the nation.
The NCAA deems Franklin Field (33rd Street at South Street, Philadelphia, Web site), which organized the University of Pennsylvania sports since 1895, as his old football stadium. The facility is believed to have hosted the most games of any team in college football – Penn No. 800 is scheduled Saturday against Dartmouth – although the NCAA does not have official records in this category.
Harvard Stadium (95 N. Harvard St., Boston, Massachusetts, Web site), opened in 1903, is the oldest permanent concrete structure in the country.
The cup of Yale (276 Derby Ave, West Haven, Connecticut, website) hosted its first tilt, against Harvard University on 21 November 1914.
Together they represent three of the four oldest Division I stadiums in the country, Bobby Dodd Stadium at Georgia Tech opened in 1913.
Ed Mahan / Penn Athletic CommunicationsBack in the day, Quakers fans actually could raise a glass to toast “dear, old Penn.” Now throw toast instead. Industrial toasters provide toast before games, and a “toast Zamboni” invented by a Penn engineering student cleans up after.
The basic elements of the game began at three schools and three stadiums, essentially setting up football and college athletics as we know.
Almost every aspect of modern game has its roots in the stadiums – the number of casualties and the game being broadcast on radio and television pet band, the halftime entertainment and shouting from upstairs.
To be sure, Franklin Field, home of Harvard and Yale Bowl have undergone renovations – the latter two only in recent years. But essentially remain unchanged, mostly through carefully planned projects.
The first night game in Harvard Stadium’s history, for example, last September was played before 18,898 fans as Harvard beat Brown 24-17. Renewal of Harvard, also gave a bubble dome for year-round use. The playing field was named Yale Bowl 1954 class field last year after a generous donation. Fortunately, through the best lines of all stages “have been excellent unobstructed view.
In its beginnings, football epic in these areas was more like going to a mosh pit – a mass of pushing and shoving, sometimes with 40 players on the field at the same time.
Walter Camp, a Yale graduate of 1880, with letters in all sports offered by the school, helped revolutionize football and away from this rugby scrum. Among his many contributions were the line of scrimmage; low and patios-To-Go, 11 players per side, the quarterback position, and the standard formation of seven linemen and four players in the line of scrimmage.
He is credited with starting All American teams and wrote over 30 books on football and amateur athletics. He also coached Yale to a 67-2 record from 1888 through 1892.
American football in 1900 was a brutal game popular, but in which serious injuries, broken bones and even deaths were not uncommon. In 1904, 21 players were killed and over 200 were seriously injured, the following year players with 18 dead and 149 seriously injured, according to reports a day. Football was so rugged that even the original Rough Rider, President Teddy Roosevelt, a Harvard graduate himself, considered banning the nation.
In late 1905, Harvard coach Bill Reid – chosen by the opposing football at Harvard and president Charles Eliot – was part of group of representatives who later became the NCAA.
Reid, Roosevelt and others, worked with the newly formed committee to establish standardized rules for football, with an eye toward eliminating roughhousing. Reid informed his constituents that unless new rules were adopted Harvard not play football in the future. The rules were adopted, making the game more consistent and put to rest its rudimentary beginnings.
Sometimes, as in the case of Harvard Stadium, the game has changed literally by design.
When colleges were discussing how to make football less bloody, Camp proposed the field was expanded from 40 feet out to play and reduce the risk.
One problem: Harvard concrete structure standing Stadium to ensure that the field can not be extended. Instead, the step was legalized, although its use was limited due in part to an incomplete pass led to a 15-yard penalty. Finally, the rules were relaxed and the forward pass led to the safest aspect many schools had sought.
In addition to hosting one of the floors of the nation rivalries – Harvard against Yale – the stadiums have held numerous civic and sporting events from football and ice hockey to presidential speeches.

John Fogerty,John Fogerty Bio:Now that he’s revisited the rootsy country and early rock terrain of his first-post Creedence Clearwater Revival days on “The Blue Ridge Rangers Rides Again,” John Fogerty says he’s ready to start sounding like, well, John Fogerty again.
“I really feel that the next recording project will probably certainly be rock ‘n’ roll and my traditional rock ‘n’ roll sounding vibe,” Fogerty tells Billboard.com. “That’s kind of what I do best, and that’s certainly what I’m known for, and as a kid that’s what I spent most of my time doing.”
Fogerty says he’s already working on new material more in the vein of 2007’s “Revival” and his other solo albums, adding that writing is part of the normal course of his days. “I play guitar everyday … about three hours. I’m always trying to get better,” he explains. “Having a guitar in your hands all the time triggers music. It triggers creativity and it helps me write songs. So at the appropriate time I’ll have enough songs to go in and make an album and you’ll hear from me again.”
And when might that be? “I better not say,” Fogerty notes with a laugh. “That’s like predicting the World Series or something. I’d rather not have that sort of pressure.”
Fans will be hearing plenty from him in the meantime, of course. Fogerty has just released a new DVD, “Comin’ Down the Road: The Concert at Royal Albert Hall,” and he kicks off a 12-date tour on November 12 at the Kodak Theater in Los Angeles.
Fogerty will perform on NBC’s “The Tonight Show” on November 10, and he’s gearing up for his Saturday appearance on PBS’ “Live By Request,” which starts at 9 p.m. EST, with fans asking for songs and posing questions via Facebook, Twitter and other social media. Original MTV VJ Mark Goodman is serving as the host and moderator.more Reuter
