KARACHI: Sindh Home Minister Dr Zulifqar Mirza said on Thursday that no operation would be conducted without his consultation, adding that the government has not decided to conduct operation in Lyari, the stronghold of the Pakistan Peoples’ Party.

He along with Shahi Syed, the president of the Awami National Party (ANP) for Sindh chapter, told media that law enforcement agencies will take action in the city wherever it is required. “The routine action is being taken against the criminals.”

Mirza said that several miscreants, involved in target killings, under the police custody would not be freed.

Shahi Syed said that his party decided to boycott from PS-94 because the government did not call army in the constituency.

He said that his party had conveyed Mirza about the reservations. SAMAA

CHAKWAL: Voting is underway for a by-election in National Assembly’s constituency NA-61 (Chakwal).

The seat fell vacant after Faiz Taman of PML-N tendered his resignation due to differences with his party.

Eight candidates are running for this constituency. The real contest is expected between PML-N’s Sardar Mumtaz Taman and independent Mansoor Hayat Taman.

Out of 363 polling stations, 38 have been declared sensitive where strict security arrangements have been made. SAMAA

According to unofficial results, Muttahida Quami Movements (MQM’s) candidate for the vacant seat of PS-94 Saif-Ud-Din Khalid has emerged victorious, grabbing 91752 votes from the constituency.
The said seat had fallen vacant after the murder of Raza Haider of MQM, while ANP boycotted the polls.
Some 1,022 rangers and 2,015 police personnel have been deployed in the constituency, where 12 polling stations were declared highly sensitive.
Rangers officials on Saturday said that terrorists could disturb by-elections at PS-94 with suicide attack/s and firing. Sachal Rangers Commander Brigadier Waseem Ayub along with DIG West Zone Sultan Khawaja said during a press conference on Saturday that there was a threat of a suicide attack and firing during the by-polls. Therefore, he added, section 144 is still imposed in the area. Sultan Khawaja said that ten suspected men have been held. He also said that law enforcement agencies will hold a search operation in the area before the polling starts.

Pillion riding has been banned in PS-94 Karachi due to by-election being held tomorrow.
Sector Commander Sachal Rangers Brigadier Waseem Ayub has said that there are chances of a suicide attack during the by-election however security arrangements have been planned to handle any unpleasant incident.
Talking to Dunya News, advisor to Chief Minister Sindh Sharmila Farooqi told that the tomorrows election is very critical and security plans have been devised for it. She said that Rangers are doing their job. At least 3000 police personnel have been deployed in the constituency. More security personnel are deployed on sensitive polling stations. Flag march would also be carried out. She added that Inspector General Sindh and CCPO Karachi would personally monitor the whole situation. She hoped that the election would be held peacefully.
