Doctors’ protest continues in Punjab on 29th day
LAHORE: The strike of Punjab’s doctors continues on the 29th consecutive day today (Tuesday) for an increase in salaries.
The Young Doctors Association (YDA) has announced to stage a sit-in protest outside Punjab Assembly today.
Doctors demonstrated outside hospitals and administered treatment to patients in medical camps there.
Routine duty in several teaching hospitals of the province, including those in Lahore, is suspended due to the strike.
The YDA said the strike will continue till their demands are fulfilled. TrendPK
Pakistan starts training for NZ tour
LAHORE: Pakistan’s cricket team started training at a camp set up in Qaddafi Stadium, Lahore, ahead of the upcoming tour of New Zealand.
Pakistan is to play three Twenty20 International, six one-day international and two Test matches during the tour.
Shoaib Akhtar, Umar Gul, Younis Khan, Shahid Afridi and other players joined the camp which will continue till December 15.
Coach Waqar Younis is supervising the camp.
On the first day of training, Team Manager Intikhab Alam told reporters that none of the players had sought the board’s permission to participate in advertisement shoots.
“The World Cup is just three months away. Players should only concentrate on their game,” he said.

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Minister has said that it will be wrong to dream for peace in Pakistan unless normalcy returns to neighboring Afghanistan.
Addressing a ceremony here on Sunday, he said the Awami National Party (ANP) stands by the army for its pro-democracy approach.
He said that fight would continue till the elimination of the last living terrorist.
Hussain said. “The government has exposed the face of terrorists. Our thousands of activists and leaders have embraced martyrdom during the war against terrorism.” SAMAA
23 dead as bomb rips through Peshawar bazaar
PESHAWAR: At least 23 people were killed and dozens other injured on Monday when a suicide bomber blew himself up at the crowded Qissa Khwani Bazaar in Peshawar.
Deputy Superintendent Police Gulfat Hussain and District Naib Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Dost Muhammad were also among the dead.
According to eyewitnesses, the bomber targeted a rally organized by the JI in protest against the power outages.
Edhi sources confirmed that 23 people were killed in the powerful blast.
The blast took place in front of a Sweets shop near Kabli Police Station located in Qissa Khwani bazaar of Peshawar.
The injured were shifted to Lady Redding Hospital, where emergency was declared.
Meanwhile, the police reached the scene and cordoned off the area.
It was the second blast that took place in Peshawar today. A schoolboy was killed in the first blast.
War to continue till elimination of terrorists: minister
PESHAWAR: Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Information Minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain, strongly condemning the Qissa Khawani blast, said Monday that even presence of security forces in a large number could not prevent the tragic incident.
“I, therefore, appeal to people not to gather in a large number at one place, which gives an opportunity to terrorists to strike,” he said.
An undeclared third world war has begun, he said, adding that the government is paying full attention to get rid of militancy.
Hussain said that war against terrorism would continue till the complete elimimination of terrorists.
“Terrorists have no faith, no religion as they don’t spare even children, women and innocent people,” he said.
LNG case: SC sought clarification from petroleum, finance ministries
ISLAMABD: The Supreme Court has sought clarification from Petroleum and Finance Ministries on a suo moto notice took by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chauhdry regarding tenders of Liquid Natural Gas (LNG).
Former Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin has also directed to submit clarification.
A three-member bench of SC headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry heard suo moto case.
Senior correspondent of The News Rauf Klasra who unveiled the scandal was also present in the court. He presented the details of scandals in the court.
The details revealed how top guns of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources awarded a multibillion dollars contract for 3.5 milion tons LNG import to a French firm after ignoring the lowest bid jointly offered by the Fauji Foundation and the Vitol.
The court has ordered petroleum and finance ministries to submit clarification and alos directed former Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin to submit statement. Later, the hearing has been adjourned till April 12.
NAB Chairman On Leave
ISLAMABAD Pakiistan: National Accountability Bureau Chairman Naveed Ahsan has gone on long leave and Deputy chairman has taken over his responsibilities.
Earlier, on February 24 NAB Chairman Naveed Ahsan tendered his resignation but was asked by Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani to continue till the appointment of his successor.
It is learnt that the NAB chief had been under tremendous pressure since the Supreme Court declared the National Reconciliation Ordinance unconstitutional.
No info about Bin-Laden presence in Pakistan
Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi has said that there is no information that Osama Bin Laden or other leaders of Al-Qaeeda are in Pakistan.
Qureshi said this in an exclusive interview with BBC’s Zeinab Badawi during recent Commonwealth meeting in Trinidad.
Responding to a question about presence of Osama Bin Laden and Ayman Al-Zawahiri in Pakistan, the foreign minister said, “if we knew we would get them and if Americans have information they should share with us,” he said and added that Americans don’t have the information.
When asked that why Obama is saying that AL-Qaeeda leadership is in Pakistan, Qureshi saod that it’s a guessing game going on and everybody is making guesses.
The Pakistani foreign minister said that we have apprehended, we have arrested, and we have eliminated terrorists and some high value targets more than any country in the world.
He said that he doesn’t know if Mullah Umar of Afghan Taliban was in Pakistan and reiterated that people guess, people speculate. There is no solid information.

PIA Hajj flight gets delayed
Lahore, Pakistan News :- A Jeddah flight bound for Lahore carrying Hajj pilgrims has been delayed Wednesday. According to PIA sources, PIA flight PK-4502 carrying 468 Hajj pilgrims has to reach Lahore 10:00 am. However, the flight has been delayed and it will reach Lahore airport at 12:00 pm. PIA’s post Hajj operation will continue till January 1.

Rangers, scouts deployed sensitive areas of Gilgit-Baltistan
GILGIT-BALTISTAN Pakistan news: The rangers along with Northern area scouts will be deployed at the sensitive polling stations for November 12 elections in Gilgit-Baltistan, said Chief Election Commissioner for Gilgit-Baltistan Rahim Nawaz Durrani Monday.
Durrani said that polling will start from 8:00 am and will continue till 4:00 pm. While talking to press conference in Gilgit, he said that 95 candidates of 10 political parties are participating in the elections for 23 constituencies. Besides this, 168 independent candidates are also participating in the elections. The election campaign will end tomorrow (Tuesday) night at 12:00 am.
