LYON: International police agency Interpol Monday urged Internet users to help track down hundreds of fugitives wanted for murder, rape, child sexual abuse and other serious crimes.

The round-up operation was launched on May 3 targeting 450 people either convicted or suspected of serious offences and wanted by, or believed to be located in, 29 countries.

More than 100 fugitives have already been arrested or located worldwide, the agency based in the French city of Lyon said in a statement. The arrests included some high-profile suspects such as former Colombian model Angie Sanclemente Valencia, caught in May in Argentina where she is wanted for drug-trafficking, and Mouamba Munanga from the Democratic Republic of Congo, wanted by France and Bahrain for counterfeit currency and money-laundering, who was picked up in South Africa on June 16.

Erik’s parents, Jose and Kitty Menendez, were found shot to death in their Beverly Hills home. Though Lyle was the one who phoned in the call to 911, the brothers were eventually arrested in 1990 for their parents’ murders. In July 1993, Lyle and Erik were tried by different juries, each claiming self-defense for the murders, saying that they had survived years of psychological and sexual abuse. The prosecution sought the death penalty, and in January 1994, mistrials were declared when neither jury could reach a verdict. The retrial took place in October 1995, when both brothers were tried by one jury. In March 1996, Lyle and Erik were found guilty of murder in the first degree. They avoided the death penalty and were sentenced to life in prison without parole.

Eric and Tammi met through letters and phone calls following the 1996 convictions of Erik Menendez and his brother, Lyle, for murdering their parents in 1989. Everyone remembers the dramatic trial, the gruesome descriptions of the crimes, and ultimately, the verdict.

According to AETV.com, the piece examines Tammi Saccoman’s controversial life as the wife of a convicted killer. Saccoman first wrote to Menendez after some difficult events in her own life, and they were eventually married. This is one of the first times the public has heard such detailed information about her and her life. Most interestingly, the documentary brings light to the fact that Tammi is beginning to wonder if she can continue to live this life, as the wife of a man who murdered his parents and will never leave prison.

“May (God) have mercy on your soul,” U.S. District Judge Harry Barnes told Alamo.

A federal judge sentenced evangelist Tony Alamo to 175 years in prison Friday following his conviction in July of 10 counts of taking underage girls across state lines for sex.

U.S. District Judge Harry Barnes imposed the maximum sentence after three women who Alamo took as child “brides” testified at Alamo’s sentencing hearing about the damage the convicted evangelist did to them and their families. Barnes indicated he took into account Alamo’s role as pastor and father figure to control the young girls.

Alamo, 75, is a one-time clothing entrepreneur. The victims testified they were taken as “child brides” by the evangelist.
