LAHORE: The Director Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) for Punjab, Zaffar Qureshi, who was investigating the National Insurance Corporation (NIC) scandal, has been changed Thursday.

Qureshi has been ordered to leave his charge immediately while Additional Director Admin Jawad Qureshi has been given additional charge of the FIA Punjab.

Sources said that Zaffar Qureshi held former federal minister Major (rtd) Habibullah Wrraich and others in NIC scandal on the orders of Supreme Court. Trend Pk

PM Gilani sacks two NRO beneficiaries

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani sacked two National Reconciliation Order (NRO) beneficiaries, Pir Mukarram and Sadiq Ali Khan on Wednesday.

Pir Mukarram, the Executive Director of Printing Corporation, will not be able to use privileges given by the corporation. His termination will be recorded as of September 8, 2009.

Sadiq Ali Khan, Managing Director of Federal Employees Benevolent Group Insurance, will be considered terminated from August 14, 2009. SAMAA

Employees Restoration Bill to benefit PPP only: Ch Nisar

Opposition Leader Chuadhry Nisar Ali Khan has said that the Employees Restoration Bill has been ratified for the members of Pakistan Peoples Party only, Dunya News reported on Thursday.
Talking to media, Opposition Leader Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan maintained that his party was not taken on board on the issue.
We were not taken into confidence regarding the Employees Restoration Bill, which was ratified for those employees who are affiliated with the PPP , a disgruntled Nisar said. Earlier, PML-N walked out of the National Assembly to register protest against the passage of Employees Restoration Bill 2010, and vowed not to attend any session in future.
On Wednesday, the National Assembly passed Pakistan Atomic Energy Amendment Bill 2007 and Employees Restoration Bill 2010, according to which employees fired from Corporation Service, Autonomous, Semi-Autonomous or Government Service would be addressed properly.

NA ratifies Employees Restoration Bill 2010

The National Assembly has passed Pakistan Atomic Energy Amendment Bill 2007 and Employees Restoration Bill 2010, according to which employees fired from Corporation Service, Autonomous, Semi-Autonomous or Government Service would be addressed properly.

NAB sentences Sohail Zia to three years in prison

LAHORE: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has sentenced PML-N leader and a close relative of PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif, Sohail Zia Butt, to three years in prison, said sources on Friday.

According to sources, he got this three year term when he failed to appear in the court, and was declared a proclaimed offender by the court in 2001.

NAB court has sentenced him to serve a three year prison term today (Friday).

During the hearing, Sohail Zia Butt asked how he could appear in court when he did not receive a notice.

NAB rejected Butt’s arguments and said he can file a petition in Lahore High Court (LHC) against his prison term.

According to NAB officials, Sohail Zia Butt had taken loan from the National Industrial and Credit Finance Corporation, which he failed to return.

US blacklists Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan

WASHINGTON: The Obama administration on Wednesday added the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) to its international terrorism blacklist, targeting the group blamed for the failed car bombing in New York’s Times Square and its leaders with financial and travel sanctions.

The group, known as the Tehrik-e-Taliban or TTP, threatens U.S. national security, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said in a notice published in the Federal Register. She designated the group a “foreign terrorist organization” under U.S. law.

In addition, Clinton named the group and its top leaders, Hakimullah Mehsud and Wali Ur Rehman, “specially designated global terrorists,” a classification that imposes additional State and Treasury department sanctions.

NAB arrests Nawaz’s close relative on corruption charges

LAHORE: The National Accountability Court (NAB) on Wednesday arrested senior PML-N leader Suhail Zia Butt from Lahore.

Butt is a close relative of PML-N chief Mian Nawaz Sharif.

Sources privy to NAB said that Butt charged of taking loans worth millions of rupees from the National Finance Corporation (NFC) on bogus documents in 1990.

According to sources, the three other accused in this case include Chaudhry Tajammul Hussain, the deceased uncle of PML-Q leader Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, Chaudhry Nayyar and Chaudhry Abdul Majid.

Suhail Zia Butt was also sentenced to three-years of imprisonment in absentia by a NAB court. He is the father of PML-N MNA Umar Suhail Butt.

The NAB team arrested Butt from a flood relief camp in Model Town and shifted him to Chamba House. SAMAA

USC reduces prices of 200 food items

ISLAMABAD: The Utility Stores Corporation (USC) has reduced the prices of 200 food items by 10 percent as per the orders of Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, said sources on Thursday.

According to sources, Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has ordered to decrease the prices of food items at all utility stores to ease the miseries of the common man during the month of Ramazan.

USC has reduced the prices of several food items including ghee, cooking oil, pulses, milk, dates and other edibles.

Sources said the government will provide utility stores a subsidy of Rs. 5 billion over the reduction of food prices. SAMAA
