All lawyers involved in CJ office attack released on bail

Lahore High Court has released all the lawyers on bail who were involved in CJ office attack; where as session judge Zawaar Ahmad Sheikh has taken a leave. While on the other side all the other judges of the court have called a strike today.
An application was filed for the bail of arrested lawyers including President Lahore Bar Association Sajjad Bashir who were involved in attacking the office of Chief Justice Lahore High Court today. Hearing of the case was done by the two member bench consisting of Chief Justice Lahore High Court Khawaja Mohammad Sharif and Justice Ejaz Chaudhry. The bails of all the arrested lawyers were accepted by the court after which they were released. On the other side District and Session Judge Lahore Zawaar Ahmad Sheikh has taken a one week leave; however judges of the court simply denied to accept his decision of taking a leave and also announced not to sit in the courts for hearing today. An all judges meeting is also called in Aiwan-e-Adal today.

Suicide attacks in Pakistan ”illegal”: JuD chief

LAHORE: Jamat-ud-Dawa chief Hafiz Saeed, in his first ever on camera interview has said that suicide attacks in Pakistan have no moral ground and are ”illegal”. He also demanded public execution of perpetrators.

He was talking exclusively to Geo News.

He was of the view that some foreign elements were trying to create religious disharmony in the country, adding that Pakistan was being forced to remain a front line state in the war against terror.

Hafiz Saeed blamed India for Data Darbar attacks and challenged India to prove JuD”s connection with Mmbai attacks. When US can negotiate with Taliban why not Pakistan, he questioned.

JuD chief pointed out that there was no restriction on his party. ”Outfits involved in militancy should be banned and strict action be taken against them.”

Reference sent against LHC CJ

LAHORE: PPP Punjab Finance Secretary Aurangzeb Burki has sent a reference against the Chief Justice of Lahore High Court Khawaja Sharif to Registrar Supreme Court, Geo News reported Tuesday.

According to the details, he has been accused of being a spokesperson of PML-N and issuing political statements. Burki also told Geo News that a copy of the reference has also been sent to the President House for filing a reference in the Supreme Judicial Council.

The Pakistan People”s Party should separate itself from the coalition in the Punjab government if it has any differences with it, he said in a ceremony in Hafizabad last month, adding that his personal relations with the Sharif brothers can never come in the way of justice.

President’s Dual Office: Chief Justice LHC Forms Bench

2ee1dee37dbench President’s Dual Office: Chief Justice LHC Forms BenchChief Justice Lahore High Court Khawaja Sharif has formed a full bench to hear the plea against President Zardari’s holding of dual office.
The Bench would be headed by Justice Ijaz Ahmed Chaudhry, other members are: Justice Iftikhar Hussain, Justice Umar Ata Bandial, Justice Iqbal Hameedur Rehman and Justice Ijazul Hassan. Earlier, the bench formed in this regard got dissolved after Justice Sheikh Azmat pulled out, saying that he used to be President Zardari’s counsel.
The bench would hear the case from March 19. In the petition filed by Advocate AK Dogar, it is argued that the president is state’s leader therefore to hold headship of a political party is against his president-ship.

b7780bca00polls LHC Throws Out Plea Against NA 55 by PollsLahore, Pakistan News: Lahore High Court dismissed a plea challenging the eligibility of the candidates and holding of by-polls in NA-55 on Thursday.
The Court asked the petitioner to contact with the Election Commission of Pakistan in this regard. Chief Justice Lahore High Court Khawaja Sharif remarked during the hearing that it was the duty of Election Commission and not of the court to ascertain the eligibility of the candidates.
Petitioner Khalid Khawaja, in his plea, requested to the court to ensure enactment of article 62 and 63 of the constitution in assessing the eligibility of the candidates besides interpretation of the above said articles.

Chief Justice Lahore High Court Khawaja Muhammad Sharif heard the petition.
Jamat-e-Islami Punjab’s leader Dr. Wasim Akhtar maintained that NEPRA don’t have any legal authority to raise the electricity prices while this authority lies with provinces. He maintained that common man is already facing problems due to inflation. It is requested in the petition that electricity prices should be curtailed to give relief to the countrymen.
