No power for Lahore 202x300 No power for LahoreLAHORE: The ongoing compounded power crisis is badly impacting life across the country including Lahore, TrendPK reported Wednesday.

According to Pakistan Electric Power Company (PEPCO), the provincial capital is suffering from 12 to 14 hours of load shedding on a daily basis.

Despite prolonged hours of power outages, inflated electricity bills are sent to consumers who said government should pay the power companies by eliciting the overdue payments from defaulter government departments instead of unwarrantedly burdening the people.

Experts said the government needed to adopt a concrete strategy to seek alternative sources of energy to go past the power crisis. TrendPK

The MQM has summoned its members of the National Assembly, from Islamabad, to partake in the meeting of its Coordination Committee (CC) in Karachi. Members of the Sindh Assembly, senators and MQM office-bearers would also remain present on the occasion.

According to sources, MQM Quaid Altaf Hussain had sent the green signal to the members CC two days ago to rejoin the government after President Asif Ali Zardari pleaded withdrawal of the resignations of his party’s federal and provincial ministers.

However, Altaf had asked the central committee to hold a meeting to discuss with the party’s parliamentarians and office-bearers before reaching a decision on the issue.

The sources said that the meeting would also consult on the current state of affairs in Punjab where protests against loadshedding had turned violent as well as the law and order situation in the country. TrendPK/AGENCIES

The El Tour de Tucson was started in 1983 by cyclist Richard DeBernardis, current president of the Perimeter Bicycling Association of America. The ride takes place every November in Tucson, Arizona. The first El Tour attracted nearly 185 riders while in recent years between 7,000 and 10,000 cyclists will attend. Because the Tour is so big, people in the bike industry are exposed to Tucson, and they know it’s a good place to ride. El Tour de Tucson helps put Tucson on the cycling map. Bicycling Magazine gives three initial reasons for ranking Tucson as the second-best place among cities its size for riding a bicycle: “Sunshine, sunshine, sunshine.

There are many divisions in the race, you can choose to cycle 109, 80, 67, or 35 miles, plus a 4-mile and 1/4 mile Kids & Family Fun Ride. The event offers fun and cycling tests for all levels of riders. The route weaves through scenic Tucson, which is surrounded by 5 mountain ranges, three of which rise over 9,000 feet. The courses range from rolling to moderately hilly, with the 35 mile route being fairly flat and the perfect course for beginners.

El Tour de Tucson cyclists raise funds for Tu Nidito Children & Family Services, the American Parkinson Disease Association, Water For People, Ben’s Bells Project, Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, Diamond Children’s Medical Center, other Perimeter Bicycling charities and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. For the children and families at Tu Nidito, El Tour is much more than a ride. “El Tour is our livelihood,” said Executive Director Liz McCusker.[4] More than 8,000 cyclists participated in the 2008 El Tour de Tucson, raising more than $200,000 for Tu Nidito Children and Family Services.
