Hrithik Roshan to host dance show called ‘So You Think You Can Dance’

While the whole world went gaga over Hrithik’s dancing skills ever since his debut film, offers kept on pouring in his kitty to host TV shows, something that he kept on avoiding (read ‘postponing’). And now, the news is that Hrithik has finally given into the temptation.

The big news is that he will soon be hosting a TV dance show called ‘So You Think You Can Dance’. Its also rumored that Hrithik will be paid a whopping Rs. 2 crore to play the host! The news doesn’t stop here. Rumors also have it that the show will have Farah Khan as one of the judges.

With the two dancing masters, viz. Farah and Hrithik on board, we are sure, dancing will only get better with every passing day or maybe episode!

Deepika’s ‘Dum Maaro Dum’ song to be used in rave-party sequence

Deepika Padukone is getting into shape to shoot the sizzling ‘Dum Maaro Dum’ track for Rohan Sippy’s film of that title, at Yash Raj Studios on Tuesday. The Anand Bakshi-penned song re-written by Jaideep Sahni (who has scripted Yash Raj’s Chak De and Rocket Singh – Salesman Of The Year) and re-composed by Pritam Chakraborty will be choreographed by Bosco-Caesar. The song will be shot in utter secrecy.

And now in the film’s leading lady Bipasha Basu’s absence (she’s in Australia shooting for Roland Joffe’s Singularity) the song is all set to sizzle with Deepika dazzling on the dance floor, her second item song. The first was with Shah Rukh Khan in Billu. This time she go-goes it alone.

Says a source from the crew, “It’s a rave-party song. Deepika will be seen dancing to ‘Dum Maaro Dum’ at the party. At the end of the song, cop Abhishek Bachchan will raid the rave party. So even he can’t be part of the song.”

Adds the source, “‘Dum Maaro Dum’ could never have been filmed on Bipasha. Her character cannot be present during the time when the song happens.”

However, that’s not the impression Bipasha had been given.

The song is being shot in a great rush. Apparently, composer Pritam Chakraborty has not even decided on the voice to be used to sing ‘Dum Maaro Dum’.

“They’re going ahead to shoot the dance with a scratch recording,” whispers the source. Let’s hope Bipasha doesn’t raid Deepika’s rave party before Abhishek does.

TRON 3D Nights brings the first ever 3D clubbing experience in India

Submerge, one India’s largest promotions and events company for Dance Music has announced plans to host the Tron 3D Nights across Mumbai, Pune and Bangalore. These Tron 3D Nights by Submerge will engage the electronic dance music and sci-fi movie fans with the first ever 3D clubbing experience in the country.

Tron 3D Nights by Submerge are scheduled on: 9th December at Trilogy, Mumbai; 11th December at Area 51, Pune and on 12th December at Chancery Pavillion Poolside, Bangalore.

Christopher Lawrence, (rated as USA’s No.1 DJ by the BBC Radio) will set the pulse racing with electronic music while the 3D Act from UK consisting of a Disc Jockey and Visual Jockey will create a unique 3D audio visual experience throughout the party. The Tron 3D Nights by Submerge are set to create immersive live entertainment experiences combining dynamic music and dance with the digital-3D world of TRON: Legacy.

Rati Agnihotri’s son Tanuj Virmani is ready to face the camera

Star kids are embraced warmly by the film industry. The new star kid on the block is Tanuj Virmani, son of actress Rati Agnihotri. Reportedly, the youngster assisted a number of directors in the past and is being groomed to be an actor. “That’s true,” Rati confirms, “Tanuj has assisted Ken Ghosh CHANCE PE DANCE and Glen Barretto AAO WISH KAREIN. He’s even written, directed, scripted, edited and acted in three short films.”

Tanuj polished his acting skills from Kishore Namit Kapoor and he made three short films in case film-makers want to see how he looks on screen and also acts. “Each short film is of 15-20 minutes duration,” Tanuj reveals. The youngster adds that he’s not looking for a conventional launch. “There have been offers, but I don’t want to take rash decisions. The script has to be good, that’s more important,” he states.

Look forward to Tanuj take his first step as a lead man.

Shabana and Jaya dance to ‘Munni Badnaam’ at Shabana’s birthday party

This has got to be the most rocking birthday party in living history. To say the ageless Shabana Azmi turned 60 with a bang on Saturday at the lounge Trilogy, would be an understatement.

Real- life Munni (Shabana’s pet name) rocked to the pounding sound of the new dance hit ‘Munni Badnaam’.

Shabana chortled the next morning, “Everybody was very amused to see Jaya and I flaunt our ambiguous dancing skills. Ash couldn’t stop explaining that her ma-in-law was on a roll…My sister-in-law Tanvi and brother Baba wouldn’t leave the dance floor. He’s such a fabulous dancer, very heavily influenced by Shammi Kapoor. Zara socho, bhai itna achcha dancer aur bahen has two left feet! Everybody danced to songs from yesteryears and of course ‘Munni Badnaam’ was a favourite.”

Shabana Azmi welcomed the biggest star turn-out at her birthday. Guests included the entire Bachchan parivar with family-friend Tina Ambani in tow. Tina’s sister-in-law Nita Ambani who generally avoids attending the same parties as Tina also attended. Quips Shabana, “Why are you only mentioning the glamorous brigade from Bollywood? My entire family was there. My acting professor Roshan Taneja, my classmates from the film institute Kanwaljeet, Zarina Wahab, Rita Bhaduri came to the party. All my activist friends were also there. I missed Shyam Benegal and Mahesh Bhatt who are out of the country.”

“People around her can hardly bear her for 60 years. How will they bear her that long?” said Javed Akhtar when someone sang ‘Tum Jiyo Hazaaron Saal’ for his wife in the party.

Salman Khan on IIFA controversy
Bollywood’s brat Salman Khan who’s in centrestage of controversies at the eleventh edition of IIFA awards, has upset not only Tamil Film Producers’ Council but also his colleagues in the film industry.

First he slammed ‘brand ambassador’ Amitabh Bachchan for his absence from IIFA. He said, “Everyone belonging to the film industry should have attended IIFA. They could have come together to extend their help to Sri Lankans.”

While others like his brother Sohail Khan and actor Neil Nitin Mukesh said politically correct things, Salman decided to call a spade a spade.

The Vice President of Tamil Film Producers’ Council, Anbalaya Prabhakaran is also not happy with Salman Khan’s presence in IIFA fest despite their warning. He asserts that Salman Khan should be banned. He was quoted as saying by Headlines Today, “It’s a graveyard, and he wants to go there and dance”.

Sri Lanka as a venue for IIFA has angered many Tamil supporters in India, who allege the Sri Lankan government of killing Tamils civilians at the height of the conflict between army and LTTE last year. A group of Tamils had marched from superstar Amitabh Bachchan’s Pratiksha bungalow to his Jalsa residence in Mumbai last month urging him to boycott the Colombo awards ceremony.

The South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce (SIFCC) has said that it will go ahead with the boycott of Bollywood actors who are participating in the IIFA weekend.

Among the major absentees is Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan. The actor, who is also the IIFA Brand Ambassador, confirmed that he would not be going to Colombo while replying to one of his fans on the micro-blogging site Twitter. He did not give any reason for his decision. His actor son Abhishek and daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai are also giving the event a miss, citing previous engagements including the promotion of their upcoming film Raavan.

The event has already drawn the ire of the Tamil film fraternity, with popular figures like Rajnikanth, Kamal Hassan, Vijay, Ajith and Surya refusing to be associated in any way with IIFA.

In May noted filmmaker Mani Ratnam announced his intention to stay away from IIFA Colombo. His forthcoming film Raavan was to be screened at the three-day event. Although Ratnam said he wouldn’t be attending because Raavan was not complete, there are speculations he did not want to risk alienating the Tamil film industry by going to Sri Lanka this year. Ratnam had premiered his Yuva at IIFA 2004 in Singapore.

Bollywood funnyman Arshad Warsi has given the IIFA awards a miss due to his shooting commitments for the dance reality show Zara Nachke Dikha. “I was supposed to perform for IIFA but I can’t go because I have to shoot for ZND (Zara Nachke Dikha),” the actor posted on his Twitter page.

Shahid Kapoor will do some unique dancing in Mausam

If it’s a Shahid Kapoor film, there must be some heavy duty dancing. Or so it seems, going by the way the music in his father’s directorial debut Mausam has been moulded to accommodate Shahid’s dancing shoes.
According to a source very close to the project, the film’s aesthetically-inclined director Pankaj Kapoor had initially planned an exclusive heavily melody-based music score based only ragas.
In fact, Pritam Chakraborty who’s doing the music score in Mausam has just recorded a raga-based love melody in the voice of Rashid Khan.
Says Pritam, “It was meant to be only a small music piece. But when Pankaj-ji heard the tune he wanted it as a full-fledged song.”
Pritam admits the music in Mausam would be heavily melodious in the tradition of the great love stories down the ages from Bobby to Love Story to Ek Duje Ke Liye to Saawariya.
But now just days after Pritam recorded the raga-based number comes the news that a specially-designed dance track will be put together for Mausam.
A source close to the project who doesn’t want to be named says, “There was closed-door meeting between the producers, the director and Shahid Kapoor. It was unanimously decided that there would be a very unique song-and-dance. It was felt that Mausam was too expensive a project to make it seem even slightly experimental in flavour.”
Says the film’s producer Sheetal Talwar, “We don’t want to disappoint Shahid’s target audience, the young fans. So yes, Shahid will dance after all.”
Shahid’s buddy Ahmed Khan is now busy trying to accommodate the dance into his crammed diary. He has no choice. Shahid has to dance.
