Rahman gets Golden Globe nomination for 127 Hours

A R Rahman, by far the most noted name in the Indian film music industry, has made the country proud once again, this time by winning a Golden Globe nomination for Danny Boyle’s new film 127 Hours, in the Best Original Score category.
However, what’s interesting to note is the fact that Rahman had earlier won a Golden Globe award as well as two Oscars for Slumdog Millionaire which was again a Danny Boyle film.
Contending with Rahman in the same category are heavyweights such as Alexandre Desplat for The King’s Speech, Danny Elfman for Alice in Wonderland, Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross for The Social Network and Hans Zimmer for Inception.
We hope the ‘Mozart of Madras’ brings home the coveted statue yet again!

Danny Gokey American Idol, Season eight contestant Danny Gokey returns to American Idol tonight to perform his own music on the show that
made him famous. Like his Idol predecessor Carrie Underwood, Danny is also making himself available to this season’s contestants if they need any advice. As far as general words of wisdom for the contestants, Danny says, “Just remain steady. Remain calm and collected…I think nerves are the biggest thing they’re going to deal with on the show.”
Now that Danny has his own music climbing the country chart, he hopes to hear one of his songs covered on Idol someday. Says Danny, “I think that’s going to be a moment in my life when people start singing my songs on American Idol. That’s going to be a huge moment.” His debut album, My Best Days, is now in stores and online.
Danny is the reason I STOPPED watching Idol. After he was voted off last season I lost all my faith in the show, obviously I wasn’t a Adam Lambert or Kris Allen fan. I hope he finds success!! Goooo Gokey! ~Vanessa

Biggest Loser Winner
Biggest Loser Winner, Danny Cahill: The Biggest Loser Winner is Danny Cahill, who lost 239 pounds and is taking home $250,000 in prize money, more than $1,000 per pound lost. Danny Cahill beat runner-up Rudy Pauls, who also put up an inspiring weight loss effort throughout Season 8 ofthe Biggest Loser.
Thirty-nine-year-old Danny Cahill entered NBC’s Biggest Loser weighing in at 430 pounds and shed 239, leaving the married land surveyor at 191 pounds. Cahill was not the largest contestant on this season’s show, with one individual weighting in at 476 pounds at the season’s first show.
In week 12, Danny Cahill was one of only four people to lose more than 200 pounds on the Biggest Loser ranch in Utah. He also completed the week 12 marathon in 6:55:22, tying with teammate Liz.
In recognition of the inspirational weight loss Cahill has achieved, BUNN, a maker of beverage equipment, has announced that it will donate a home coffee brewer for every pound he lost to a nonprofit hunger relief organization. During episode 8:12, Lisa McCloud, director of marketing at BUNN, noticed that Danny Cahill has a BUNN coffee brewer in his home in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. McCloud noted in a company news release prior to the season finale that “We want to do something to support Danny in his final push to the finale and are guessing that he will lose between 225-250 pounds. That equates to up to $25,000 worth of coffee brewers that could be donated.”
The Biggest Loser has been an inspiration for many overweight and obese individuals, and now it appears that Danny Cahill’s weight loss efforts have inspired an unexpected audience. Cahill’s weight loss is clearly a win-win-win situation: his reaching a healthful weight, his inspiration for others, and the many nonprofit hunger relief organizations that will receive a coffee brewer. The season finale of Biggest Loser has turned out to be a big winner all the way around.

Eastern US Warned By Tropical Storm Danny
MIAMI: Tropical Storm Danny approached the US east coast on Friday and could bring rain and high surf to the northeast by the weekend, as forecasters warned of dangerous waves and rip currents.
Even though the eye of Danny was forecast to bypass the outer banks of North Carolina Saturday, New England and the Canadian Maritime provinces of Nova Scotia and New Brunswick were warned to monitor the storm as it churned northward.
Ocean swells, winds and rain could dampen the day for mourners at the funeral service for late senator Edward Kennedy in the northeastern state of Massachusetts Saturday if Danny continues on the same northwestern trajectory.
At 2100 GMT, Danny was churning in the Atlantic at six miles (nine kilometers) per hour, the Miami-based National Hurricane Center (NHC).
The eye of the storm was about 330 miles (535 km) south of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina, and 810 miles (1300 km) south-southwest of Nantucket, Massachusetts.
Danny, with top winds at 40 miles (65 km) per hour, could strengthen slightly again later in the day, the NHC said.
A tropical storm watch remained in effect for parts of the North Carolina coast, while forecasters urged people to remain on the lookout along the northeastern US coast as well as the Canadian Maritimes.
“Large swells from Danny are expected to produce dangerous surf conditions and life-threatening rip currents along the US east coast during the next day or two,” the NHC said.
The Atlantic hurricane season began on June 1 and ends on November 30.
The only other hurricane this Atlantic was Hurricane Bill, which was downgraded this week as it swept over Canada’s east coast.
So far, 2009 has seen one of the calmest starts to the hurricane season in a decade, which researchers have attributed to the development of an El Nino effect in the Pacific.
