PM Gilani ready to appear in SC again
Embattled Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani Thursday said he will appear before Supreme Court after it summoned him to be indicted with contempt for failing to pursue corruption cases against the president.
The court ordered Gilani to appear before it on February 13.
“I will appear in the supreme court. I have attended the court when summoned in the past and I will attend again now,” Gilani told parliament.
The Supreme Court is charging the prime minister with contempt for his failure to ask Swiss authorities to reopen an old corruption case against President Asif Ali Zardari dating back to the late 1990s.
Gilani argues that Zardari is immune from prosecution as a serving president. He was conciliatory in his first appearance in an attempt to defuse the crisis.
But today, PM Gilani in his statement said he would refrain from making comments on the judiciary, adding that he firmly believed that every body should follow the constitution.
Azarenka wins Australian Open women’s title
Victoria Azarenka had produced one of the most lopsided Australian Open final victories to capture a Grand Slam title and the No. 1 ranking for the first time. She started celebrating on Rod Laver Arena, then suddenly did a double-take to ask her coach, “What happened?”
The answer: She routed three-time Grand Slam winner Maria Sharapova 6-3, 6-0 in 1 hour, 22 minutes on Saturday night, winning 12 of the last 13 games after dropping her first service game and falling behind 2-0.
“It s a dream come true,” she said. “I have been dreaming and working so hard to win the Grand Slam, and being No. 1 is pretty good bonus. Just the perfect ending and the perfect position to be in.”
Azarenka won 11 straight matches, including a run to the Sydney International title, to reach her first Grand Slam final. Her previous best performance at a major was a semifinal loss to Petra Kvitova at Wimbledon last year. Sharapova had all the experience, being in her sixth major final and having won three dating back to her 2004 Wimbledon title.
But it didn t unnerve the 22-year-old Azarenka, who is the first woman from Belarus to win a singles major. She s also the seventh different woman to win a Grand Slam title since Francesca Schiavone won the 2010 French Open, and the fifth different winner in as many majors.
Azarenka became only the third woman to earn the No. 1 spot after winning her first Grand Slam title. She moved from No. 3 to No. 1 in the rankings, helped by Caroline Wozniacki s loss in the quarterfinals.
The third-seeded Azarenka set up championship point with a stunning forehand, her 14th clean winner, and sealed it when Sharapova netted a backhand.
She dropped on to her knees at the baseline with her hands over her face. She got up, held up her hands up and jogged up to her coach, Sam Sumyk, in the stands to celebrate.
“The best feeling, for sure,” Azarenka said. “I don t know about the game. I don t know what I was doing out there. It s just pure joy what happened. I can t believe it s over.”
And she paid special credit to her grandmother, “the person who inspires me the most in my life.”
Azarenka has been a distinctive presence at Melbourne Park as much as for her shrieks and hoots with each shot and seemingly boundless energy as for her white shorts, blue singlet and lime green head and wrist bands.
Against Sharapova, she maintained the frenetic movement that has been the hallmark of her campaign in Australia, her 25th consecutive major. She won the Sydney International title the weekend before the year s first major and is now on a 12-match winning streak the first player since 2004 to win a WTA tour event the week before winning a major.

Actress Jamie-Lynn Sigler came to her senses and dumped Turtle – that would be actor Jerry Ferrara – and has apparently hooked up with New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez.
Sigler met Sanchez at a party recently after taking a hiatus from the dating scene since December 2009 following her breakup with Ferrara.
According to sources, Sigler and Sanchez made no effort to hide their feelings for each other at a Tribeca Film Festival party.
A partygoer says, “They met at the LG Infinia premiere of Keep Surfing for the Tribeca Film Festival and really hit it off. They were flirting and talking all night.”
Sigler of course is best known for her role as Meadow Soprano in the HBO series The Sopranos. Sanchez will be entering his second season as the quarterback of the Jets.

After the jubilant Madonna extravaganza, this episode of “Glee” seemed comparatively drama-heavy — it took my brain a second to shift gears. And man, I definitely teared up once or twice. Plus, we got a break from The Rachel Show (love you honey, but a little breather will only help our relationship) and instead focused on Kurt and Mercedes. Okay, and Finn, but in a context other than his dating life.
Kristin Chenoweth!: Kristin Chenoweth is back! And she sings three songs! The Kristin/Idina sing-off is still but a dream, sadly. April MCs at a roller rink these days, and apparently thought better of sobriety. After a “Fire” duet that makes me want to run my hands through Will’s hair (as much as the Dep will allow) as we watch “Chicago” together on my couch (I’ll cut the fantasy off there), April confesses that she’s a strip mall tycoon’s mistress, and needs a place to stay.
And hey, Will needs a subletter! April guilts him into letting her take the place for a spin that night, and though he dashes off to bed immediately, they each separately contemplate their loneliness with a beautiful “One Less Bell to Answer.” When they segue into “A House is not a Home,” (Barbra tribute!), April climbs into bed with Will. They lie there, miles apart, until Will reaches out his arm as the song ends and they both say goodnight. Great scene.
Since Sue has booked the auditorium for the week, Will brings New Directions to the roller rink to practice. Which brings me to my biggest problem with this episode: How do you have a scene at a roller rink without a “Xanadu” tribute??? Olivia Newton-John totally should’ve guest starred in this episode! Sigh…
Will passes on a repeat sleepover (and apparently that’s all it was), since he’s getting divorced and she should probably work on not being a drunken mistress. I dunno … running a roller rink is a pretty sweet gig. April tries to break up with her sugar granddaddy, but he croaks before she has a chance! His wife gives her $2 million in hush money, so it’s off to “the Broadway,” where she’ll mount the first-ever all-white production of “The Wiz.” That’s quite the dream.
14 Tombs And A Mummy Found, Dating Back To The 3rd Century BC

Egyptian archaeologists carrying out excavations at the site of a planned youth center have found 14 tombs dating back to the third century BC, including one with a female mummy adorned with jewelry.
The Greco-Roman tombs, in Bahariya Oasis, 300 km (190 miles) southwest of Cairo, were discovered during probes that indicated they may be part of a much larger necropolis, Egypt’s Culture Ministry said in a statement Monday.
A 97-cm (38-inch) tall female mummy, found in the stair-lined interior of one of the rock-hewn tombs, was cast in colored plaster inlaid with jewelry and eyes.
Archaeologists, who dug at the site ahead of the planned construction of a youth center, found the tombs contained other treasures as well. The area has now been turned over to Egypt’s antiquities authority.
“Early investigations uncovered four anthropoid masks made of plaster, a gold fragment decorated with engravings of the four sons of Horus, and a collection of coins, and clay and glass vessels,” the ministry’s statement quoted Egypt’s chief archaeologist Zahi Hawass as saying.
The four sons of Horus — Imsety, Duamutef, Hapi and Qebehsenuef — were ancient Egyptian gods. The engravings show the influence of Egyptian religion well into the Greco-Roman period.
The gods were believed to protect the stomach, liver, intestines and lungs of mummified bodies.
Bahariya Oasis is home to Egypt’s famed Valley of the Golden Mummies, where a collection of 17 tombs with about 254 mummies was discovered in 1996.
