KARACHI: The family of wicketkeeper Zulqarnain Haider urged him to return home from London where he fled hours before the fifth and final one-day international against South Africa in Dubai.
“He should return to Pakistan or if he has issues coming back home because of the threats he should at least come back to Dubai and join the team again,” his brother Aqeel Haider said.
“His wife and children are also very concerned about him and believe he should be back at home they don’t want to go to London,” he said.
Haider’s wife Qurutul Ain appeared on Trend Pk with her father-in-law pleading for her husband to return at least to Dubai.

KARACHI: Wicketkeeper Zulqarnain Haider, who retired from international cricket under pressure of death threats for refusing to fix matches, was on Tuesday questioned by Scotland Yard and ICC Anti-Corruption unit in London in connection with his claims that he was approached by bookies.
The glovesman, who fled to London midway through a series against South Africa in the UAE after receiving death threats for refusing to fix matches, said he was issued a temporary stay permit by the United Kingdom border agency.
“The Scotland Yard and ICC ACU guys have questioned me and the border agency has issued me a temporary permit to stay for one month,” Haider told a Pakistani news channel.
Sources said Haider had applied for political asylum on reaching Heathrow airport last night and had been questioned by the UK border agency in this regard.

According to Iran’s state news agency two leaders of “sedition” in the country have fled to a northern Iranian province. The top opposition leaders are Mir Hossein Mousavi and Mehdi Karroubi had fled the capital. According to the officials, these two leaders who played a major role in igniting tension in Iran following presidential vote, fled Tehran and went to a northern province because they were scared of people, who demanded their punishment. However an opposition website said the two men had been taken into custody by members of the elite Revolutionary Guards and intelligence ministry for their own protection.

LAHORE: A local court here on Saturday has extended Meera’s bail and reserved the final verdict until 3 October.
Court has given extention in Meera’s bail on three times payment of Rs.100,000. On completion of argument, the court has reserved the final decision against Meera and her alleged husband until 3 October.
While talking to the media after the hearing, Meera said that Ateeq-ur-Rehman is a fraud, and he is constantly giving death threats to me and my family. She also revealed that Ateeq-ur-Rehman has demanded ‘off the record’ settlement on payment of hefty amount.
