LAHORE: Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry has said on Saturday that justice cannot be denied with force.

Addressing at the Supreme Court Bar association here Chief Justice said the peace can only prevail in the society when there is rule of law and provision of justice to all.

He said that the role of judiciary is tremendously responsible in current situation of the country. The CJ said the recovery of billions has been possible with the decisions of the judiciary. TrendPK

Altaf urges masses for long-march for Pakistan’s sovereignty

MQM Chief Altaf Hussain has said that the masses, all political and religious parties of Pakistan should announce a long-march for the sovereignty and prestige of the country, trendpk.Com reported on Thursday.

During a telephonic address in Karachi and other cities on the occasion of Youm-e Shohada (Martyrs’ Day), Altaf Hussain said that today Pakistan’s integrity and independence is at stake while he also said that the country requires sacrifices from its patriotic citizens. He further said in his address that today Pakistan stands at a place where Pakistanis living abroad do not feel proud for being Pakistanis. Altaf Hussain added that although masses have rejected the flood tax and RGST but the decisions of the parliament are being done by diplomats. Altaf Hussain appealed to the Supreme Court of Pakistan to constitute aa judicial commission for determining the tax returns of all the parliamentarians.

Fazl assures conditional support on RGST

LAHORE: JUI-F chief Maulana Fazl ur Rehman has assured his party’s conditional support for Reformed General Sales Tax (RGST).

While talking to the media in Lahore, he said that an army operation will not benefit Pakistan and all decisions should be taken as per the decisions of Parliament resolution.

He was of the opinion to have a firm belief in the supremacy of Parliament and democracy. He clarified that if RGST will be lenient and won’t impose much pressure on the citizens of Pakistan, his party will support it. Trend Pk

Work on Thar coal project to begin soon: Pervez Ashraf

Minister for Water and Power Raja Pervez Ashraf said Saturday that the government has decided to further step up work on Thar coal project as the import of oil for power generation has become unbearable.

He was addressing a press conference along with MNA Rubina Saadat Kaimkhani after attending the 10th meeting of Thar Coal Energy Board (TCEB) at Chief Minister House. Advisor to CM Waqar Mehdi was also present on the occasion. He said that in oil equivalent terms, Thar coal reserves are larger than the combined oil reserves of Saudi Arabia and Iran and 68 times more than Sui gas field reserves and can generate 100,000 megawatts of electricity for next 200 years. Giving details of the decisions at the meeting, the Minister said that the Federal Ministry of Water & Power will establish dedicated wing in Ministry to exclusively deal with infrastructure development for Thar and seek international financing for it as per the decision of the Council of Common Interest. Pervez Ashraf said that media team will be taken to Thar coal site after Eid so that the journalists can themselves see the progress there and he also pointed out that coal gasification project will enable Pakistan to earn carbon credits.

Fed cabinet approves Pak-Afghan transit trade agreement

ISLAMABAD: The federal cabinet on Wednesday approved Pak-Afghan transit trade agreement.

The cabinet meeting was chaired by Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani where the trade ministry presented the Pak-Afghan transit trade agreement and the cabinet approved that mutually.

The federal cabinet also approved Pakistan Housing Authority as autonomous body.

The cabinet division informed the meeting that the decisions of the federal cabinet for the narcotics control and trade ministry have been implemented up to 85 percent. SAMAA

Troika agree to implement all court orders

The troika comprising President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Ashfaq Kayani held a key meeting at the Presidency.
Sources said that the troika vowed to defend democracy and implement the decisions of the Supreme Court in letter and spirit.
Presidential spokesman Farhatullah Babar said that it was decided in the meeting to resolve all the issues in accordance with the Constitution. He said the meeting reviewed ongoing war against terrorism, and rehabilitation and rebuilding process after devastating floods.

Kundi rules out clash of state organs

DI KHAN: Deputy Speaker National Assembly Faisal Karim Kundi Sunday said government will not allow the state institutions to have a clash, assuring that the decisions of judiciary will be honored and the situation will not be allowed to enter a blind alley.

He was replying a question while talking to media men in Dera Ismail Khan.

Faisal Karim Kundi disclosed that Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani will be holding a meeting with the Law Minister and expressed optimism that the judicial issues will soon be resolved.

Earlier, he handed over Pakistan People’s Party’s ticket to Dawar Kundi for contesting by-elections.

PPP, MQM vow to keep up contacts: Farooq

KARACHI: Deputy Convener of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Coordination Committee and Federal Minister, Dr. Farooq Sattar said the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) will continue to remain in contact, Geo News reported Tuesday.

2nd inter-provincial moot on energy to be held today

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has invited all Provincial chief ministers to a follow-up national energy summit today (Monday) to review implementation of decisions announced last month for containing the energy crisis on a long-term basis.

Besides Minister Of Water And Power Raja Pervez Ashraf, secretary water and power Shahid Rafi, chairman Wapda, Shakeel Durrani, MD PEPCO Tahir Basharat Cheema and senior officials of ministry of petroleum and natural resources, ministry of industries and production, ministry of textile and other respective ministries would attend the meeting here at Prime Minister Secretariat.

The meeting would review the pace of implementation of the decisions taken in the first conference about conservation of energy besides evolving future strategy.

Water situation has improved in dams due to recent wave of rainfall and it is bringing improvement in the power production. However Sui Northern gas Pipeline has not started supplying gas to power distribution companies in line with consensus decision.
