NEW YORK: Dennis Hopper shot two bullet holes through an Andy Warhol portrait of Mao Zedong, but instead of getting mad, Warhol called the “Easy Rider” star a collaborator.
Warhol’s “Mao” is among 300 works of fine art and memorabilia owned by the late actor-director of the 1969 counterculture film up for auction at Christie’s next week. The 1972 colored screenprint is expected to bring $20,000 to $30,000.
Most of the items adorned the actor’s Venice Beach, Calif., home.
Hopper, who was twice nominated for Oscars and earned a star last year on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, died of prostate cancer at his home in May. He was 74.
The actor/director was already stricken with cancer when he attended the ceremony for the unveiling of his commemorative star. The framed plaque of the star that Hopper received as a memento of the event is being sold next week

You may want to clear some space on the DVR in preparation for Turner Classic Movies’ Dennis Hopper marathon.
Tomorrow TCM honors the actor by airing five of his early films: The Sons of Katie Elder, True Grit, Rebel Without a Cause, Easy Rider and Night Tide. It kicks off at 8 p.m. ET.
While the films are good choices, it’s too bad the two most popular ones — Rebel and Easy Rider — don’t start until 12:30 a.m., hence the DVR warning.
Hopper died May 29 of cancer. He was 74.The Durango trip is just one of many that I’ve taken recently. So far this year I have been to cities like Hermosillo, Caborca, La Paz, Puerto Vallarta, and Tepic to see other mineral prospective properties. So I can tell you this first hand: It’s time to completely disregard everything you’ve seen on TV and re-assess Mexico.
Today, Mexico has a modern emerging middle-class that is underpinned by spectacular economic growth and dynamic social change. Combined with ultra contemporary mining and tax laws that are inviting to any level of mineral firm, there’s simply no better place for mineral exploration right now.

Heidi Montag will supposedly be a single lady this summer. Yesterday she announced her “split” from Spencer and just one day later she has revealed that she will be moving in with “friend” Jennifer Bunney while the two film their upcoming new show.
You know, Jennifer Bunney, the one that Heidi announced was her best friend just one day after she announced that she had “NO FRIENDS.” Gosh, don’t you hate it when you forget that you have a best friend??

“Heidi and I are moving into a Malibu beach house this summer,” Bunney told RadarOnline.com. “We’re really excited to do girly things and show people who we really are and that we’re really fun, sweet and loyal girls.Bunney, who is looking much blonder these days, among other things, dished on her friend’s separation to the gossip site. She said: “Heidi has spent so much time with Spencer and now she wants to be able to spend more time with herself and friendships.”

n July, 2008, Dennis Hopper answered questions from the Television Critics Association members during their summer press tour. At that time, Hoppe was working on what would be one of his last projects. His TV series Crash, on the Starz network, was a series based on the feature film about racial tensions in Los Angeles.
He was both serious as well as playful with the members as he talked about his role and his career.
Dennis Hopper Enjoyed Working on His TV Series Crash
About his character in Crash, Hopper said, “he seems to have a tremendous empathy and understanding of things, and at the same time, he has no limitations how he addresses other people or other races or other genders, — he’s totally a loose cannon.” Hopper said, “He doesn’t have an edit button. But it’s wonderfully written. The shows have been just brilliantly written and wonderfully directed. … I’ve had a few 17-hour days, which on most things I’d be screaming and bitching and moaning. I’m not screaming, bitching, and moaning at all. I’m loving this show. I’m loving doing this show. And it’s because of the material, and it’s because the people I’m working with are just terrific. So I’ve never been under an experience like this or had such good writing. So I’m very happy.”
Hopper obviously was enjoying the last years of his life. “I play a guy that’s very — very far out, but, you know, I don’t see him as a bad guy or a good guy necessarily. But I think he has more good feelings for people than bad at the moment.”
At the time of the press conference, the SAG strike was looming on the horizon. Hopper was asked about this. “Well, I don’t want to get between Jack Nicholson and Tom Hanks, you know, not a good place to be here right now. And I would have to side with Jack, so you know, that puts me in a really weird place. No, I think the unfortunate thing is that out of the 120,000 people that are in Screen Actors Guild, there are only 7,000 that make their living acting and the others have other jobs. So generally, if it comes to strike, they generally strike because they want more benefits, but it’s not necessarily great for the industry. So I hope it doesn’t come to strike. I hope it doesn’t come to a vote for strike because I’m afraid that we’ll go out on strike. I hope we don’t go out on strike. But beyond that, I have no knowledge.”

Dennis Hopper’s Career
Throughout his career, Dennis Hopper played some unconventional characters. When asked about this and whether he had the desire to play a straight laced man, he simply answered, “Well, sure. I mean, you know, I’m an actor. I like to act. I don’t think that I can only play crazy people, but maybe that’s all I can play. No, I love acting, and as long as I can act, I will be doing it. But I’m rather a mild-mannered quiet kind of guy, introvert, so these characters that I play have very little to do with my reality. That’s interesting for me and it’s a drag for me also. I really don’t know how to answer that. Sure, I would love to play that part. But I love this part. He has a lot of different levels. So it’s an interesting go. And it’s always surprising every time I pick up the script and read it, how my character is out there.”
While he had been acting for many years prior to his big 1969 hit film Easy Rider, although that is the thing that propelled him into the stratosphere of public awareness. Hopper not only acted in the film but he also directed the film and co-wrote it with costar Peter Fonda.

Rafael Nadal coasts past Lleyton Hewitt in French Open
PARIS – Four-time French Open champion Rafael Nadal has beaten two-time major winner Lleyton Hewitt to reach the fourth round.
Nadal won 6-3, 6-4, 6-3 in just under 2 1/2 hours Saturday in a match between former No. 1 players.
It was in the fourth round last year that Nadal’s record 31-match winning streak at Roland Garros ended when he was upset by Robin Soldering. This year, the Spaniard will face No. 24 Thomaz Bellucci of Brazil at that stage.
Nadal is attempting to become the second man to win five French Open titles; Bjorn Borg holds the record of six.

The third set again followed the same pattern, with Hewitt having to hit back after an early loss of service before slipping to defeat on the third match point.
Nadal will now play young Brazilian Thomaz Bellucci, who beats Croat veteran Ivan Lubicic 7-6 6-2 6-4, in the fourth round.
Earlier, sixth seed Andy Roddick made a third round exit to Russian qualifier Teimuraz Gabashvili to continue his dismal run at Roland Garros.
The big-serving American has never got beyond the last 16 in the clay court grand slam and was roundly beaten 6-4 6-2 6-2 by world number 114 Gabashvili.
Britain’s Andy Murray, the No.4 seed, joined Federer in the last 16 with a 6-2 6-3 0-6 6-2 win over Marcos Baghdatis of Cyprus.

Serbian No.3 seed Novak Djokovic, a semi-finalist in 2007 and 2008, cantered to a 6-1, 6-4, 6-4 win over Japan’s Kei Nishikori.
Djokovic will face Romania’s Victor Hanescu for a place in the last 16.

Dennis Hopper Dead At 74
LOS ANGELES – Dennis Hopper, the high-flying Hollywood wild man whose memorable and erratic career included an early turn in “Rebel Without a Cause,” an improbable smash with “Easy Rider” and a classic character role in “Blue Velvet,” has died. He was 74.
Hopper died Saturday at his home in the Los Angeles beach community of Venice, surrounded by family and friends, family friend Alex Hitz said. Hopper’s manager announced in October 2009 that he had been diagnosed with prostate cancer.
The success of “Easy Rider,” and the spectacular failure of his next film, “The Last Movie,” fit the pattern for the talented but sometimes uncontrollable actor-director, who also had parts in such favorites as “Apocalypse Now” and “Hoosiers.” He was a two-time Academy Award nominee, and in March 2010, was honored with a star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame .
Hopper appeared in movies such as “Easy Rider” and “Hoosiers”.
He was 74 years old.

Hopper also starred in “Blue Velvet”, “Chasers” and “Super Mario Brothers”. All of those were filmed here in Wilmington. He lived here for quite sometime and was largely responsible for the restoration of what is now City Stage in downtown.
Hopper, who studied at the Actors Studio with Lee Strasburg in New York, also performed on stage and in many TV appearances. He was also an accomplished photographer, painter, and sculptor.

Dennis Hopper, whose work won many awards and two Oscar nominations, made his last public appearance in March, when he was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in front of Grauman’s Chinese Theater on Hollywood Boulevard.
Hopper’s personal life was no less dramatic than his work: Married five times (including an eight-day marriage to Mamas & the Papas singer Michelle Phillips in 1970), he struggled for many years with alcoholism and drug abuse before becoming sober in the 1980s. He filed for divorce from his fifth wife, Victoria Duffy, in January, after 14 years of marriage and one child (daughter Galen Grier). He was also an avid photographer and art collector
