LOS ANGELES: Grammy winner Adele, who swept the awards show with best album, record and song of the year, told reporters backstage that being forced to rest her voice after recent surgery was a welcome change. Â
  Â
“It’s actually been really, really peaceful,” said the radiant 23-year old British chanteuse after the awards show during which she belted out a soaring rendition of “Rolling In the Deep” in her first live performance since vocal cord surgery late last year. Â
  Â
After it was over, her doctors ordered her not to speak and to rest her voice. Â
  Â
“It was a bit traumatic with having to have the surgery,” she said, but noted that she enjoyed having to quiet down in such a loud world. “Everything is so noisy in my world, it was actually a bit of a blessing in disguise,” she said. Â
  Â
“Thank God my voice healed and I stuck to all the rules that they gave me, and I’ve actually never been happier. I found great happiness when I was ill. I was glad to be back, but I really enjoyed having to be quiet. I’m so mouthy it was quite nice to be forced to be quiet,” she said. AGENCIESÂ

HAVANA: A top Cuban musician from the Buena Vista Social Club has declined to go to the United States to attend the upcoming Grammy Awards ceremony, website Cubasi reported.
In an interview with the website on Friday Eliades Ochoa said he had received a US visa but would stay home instead.
“I prefer to play here in Cuba, in front of my people, rather than go to the Grammys,” said Ochoa, 65. “I said it even before the visa came: I prefer to remain in Cuba and play for my people.”
He did not specify whether he himself had applied for the visa.
Ochoa’s album “Afrocubusmo,” which represents a mixture of traditional Cuban and African music, was nominated for a Grammy award.
“The nomination itself was an award for us,” the musician said. “It was a recognition of Cuban traditional music, of our roots. And if we win a Grammy, so much the better.”
Ochoa is currently on a concert tour promoting his new album, “A Bolero for You,” with performances scheduled in Havana and Varadero.
The Grammys ceremony will be held in Los Angeles on Sunday. AGENCIES

Amy Winehouseâs family, friends unhappy with fashion show modeled like her

TrendPK.com: Designer Jean Paul Gaultier recently tried to pay homage to the late Amy Winehouse with a fashion show that had models walking down the runway wearing her hairstyles and trademark makeup.
However, while he may have been trying to do something nice with this, her family and friends do not find it flattering at all, states E! News. âWe donât support the Jean Paul Galtier sic collection. Itâs in bad taste,â Mitch Winehouse, Amyâs father, posted on Twitter.

Royal bride’s dress designer finally unveiled
April 29, 2011 by Trend PK
LONDON: Royal bride Kate Middleton’s wedding dress was designed by Alexander McQueen’s Sarah Burton, ending months of fevered speculation in the fashion world over who would create one of the most talked-about outfits of the decade.
The dress featured a hand-made lace applique over an ivory-coloured bodice and skirt, made of silk and satin.
The identity of the designer and details of the dress were kept a closely guarded secret by St. James’s Palace throughout the build-up to Middleton’s wedding to Britain’s Prince William.
A special marquee was erected outside the entrance to Middleton’s London hotel to prevent anyone getting an early glimpse of the dress before she stepped out of her car outside the abbey.
Newspapers and websites around the world have run several “scoops” identifying the designer, but none were ever confirmed.
Names put forward in articles and blog postings have included Bruce Oldfield and Sophie Cranston of the Libelula label.
The fashion world has taken a close interest in 29-year-old Middleton’s clothes choices in recent months, with industry insiders predicting that she could have a huge influence on high street sales.
Endless comparisons have been made between Middleton and William’s late mother Princess Diana, a style icon by the time of her death in 1997 aged 36.
Middleton’s dress differed radically from that of Diana at her wedding to Prince Charles in 1981, a frilly, flouncy cream number designed by Elizabeth Emanuel which reflected the times in which it appeared.
Before Friday’s wedding, Emanuel told Reuters that Middleton was older and more assured in terms of fashion than the shy 20-year-old Diana, and so was likely to know better what she wanted for the big day.
“With Diana she was very young, when we were introduced to her and fashion was not one of her big interests so she didn’t really have her own sense of style,” Emanuel said.
“But Kate Middleton does. She’s worked in fashion. She knows what suits her.” AGENCIES
New GoldenEye 007 screens released
Activision has released new screenshots for the Wii remake of GoldenEye 007. The game, which is being developed by Dead Space: Extraction team Eurocom, is a re-imagining of the classic Nintendo 64 first-person shooter.
Bruce Feirstein, the writer of the original GoldenEye, is returning to the story and bringing it up to date, complete with Daniel Craig’s more visceral Bond replacing Pierce Brosnan’s.
The screens show various different terrorist-types standing around menacingly or firing their weapons at some off-screen threat – we’re guessing it’s Bond.
Martin Hollis, the designer of the N64 version of GoldenEye 007, has attacked Activision bosses over the company’s decision to revive the game for Wii.

LUCASVILLE, Ohio â Ohio executed a hitchhiker Thursday who admitted to killing one motorist who gave him a ride and shooting two others during a three-week string of shootings that terrorized the Cincinnati area in 1983.
Michael Beuke, 48, died by lethal injection at 10:53 a.m. EDT at the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility in Lucasville, about 90 minutes after the Ohio Supreme Court turned down his final appeal.
While on the gurney, Beuke recited the Roman Catholic rosary for 17 minutes before he died, choking back tears as he repeatedly said the Hail Mary. He also expressed his sorrow to the families of his three victims.
Beuke, dubbed by the media as the “homicidal hitchhiker,” spend a quarter century on death row, where he said he had a spiritual conversion. He expressed remorse for his crimes and said in an unsuccessful request for clemency that he accepted responsibility and prayed “that God will ease the pain I have caused my victims.”
Beuke was emotional as the hour of his death neared, crying frequently in his cell at the Lucasville prison, said Julie Walburn, an Ohio prisons spokeswoman.
He was convicted Oct. 5, 1983, of aggravated murder for the death of Robert Craig, 27, of Cincinnati and was sentenced to death. He also was found guilty of the attempted slayings of Gregory Wahoff of Cincinnati and Bruce Graham, then from West Harrison, Ind.
Late Wednesday night, Beuke lost appeals before the U.S. Supreme Court, failing to convince the majority that he’d been on death row so long the execution would be unconstitutionally cruel and serve no purpose and that prescription medicine he takes could interfere with a drug used in Ohio’s backup execution method. The state did not have to resort to the backup Thursday. Beuke died by Ohio’s primary, intravenous injection method.
The Ohio Supreme Court denied a last-minute stay Thursday morning, turning aside an appeal related to a previously unsuccessful claim that brain damage contributed to Beuke’s violent behavior. His lawyers said recent brain scans and expert conclusions showed Beuke suffered from moderate to severe brain damage.
He was the 38th person put to death in Ohio since the state resumed the practice in 1999.
