Preity Zinta appointed as brand ambassador for Himachal Pradesh

The lovely Preity Zinta, a Bollywood star, entrepreneur, cricket fan and now tourism Ambassador. Yes, that’s a new role that she has taken up and if you’re guess is Punjab, we assure you it isn’t. In fact, Preity will now be promoting the enchanting Himachal Pradesh.
She would be making it a point to promote Himachal’s slogan ‘Unforgettable Himachal’ and ‘A Destination for All Seasons and All Reasons’ – both domestically and internationally. It could be because Preity obviously has a soft spot for the destination as she did her schooling from Shimla.
The talks started a few months back when Preity was visiting the state for the IPL matches hosted by the Himachal Cricket Association. Tourism Director Arun Sharma offered her to represent the state and Preity said yes to the offer. The state is in the process of sending her a formal letter. She plans not to charge anything for her services as brand ambassador. Kudos PZ!
Interestingly, Abhishek’s last visit to the state revealed his willingness to be the Brand Ambassador but talks with Preity had come to quite an advance stage thus things with Jr. Bachchan didn’t really materialise. More so, Preity kind of is Himachali and has also featured in the state’s coffee table book – Har Ghar Kuchh Kehta Hai – brought out by the tourism department.
Aborted plans for band performance restricts TMK celebrations

It was expected that Akshay Kumar would be the one acting Tees Maar Khan for the music launch of the namesake film. However, what happened was something totally on the contrary as it was a massive crowd comprising of ‘aam junta’ which came with it’s own preparation. So much so that it went uncontrollable as the train (on which the music launch of this Farah Khan directed film took place) reached its final destination, Lonavala, on Sunday afternoon.
“As such it was a great event. However, I do feel saddened by the fact that a specially arranged music band, which was supposed to do a medley of Tees Maar Khan songs at the Lonavala station, couldn’t proceed with it’s plans. There were a 4000-5000 strong crowd already waiting at the station in anticipation of arrival of Akshay and Katrina. Police had to be called and we all had to make a hurried exit from the station to another destination where we continued with the launch”, informs Farah who was accompanied by Shirish Kunder, music baron Bhushan Kumar, composer duo of Vishal & Shekhar as well as lyricist Anvita Dutt Gupta.
Akshaye Khanna couldn’t join the event as he was out of town.
The music launch of Tees Maar Khan was designed as a unique affair with as 125 strong media contingent travelling from CST Mumbai to Lonavala in a specially booked train. The cast and crew travelled along as well which interacted with the media at length in this 150 minute long journey, followed by a formal music launch.
“Yes, we booked an entire train with five bogies for the event”, informs Farah who is now most excited about guaging reactions to ‘Sheila Ki Jawani’ which would be on air soon.
The band which had to abort the plans of a performance on the station didn’t go back disappointed either. Though it was a no-show at Lonavala station, there was a performance later for the media at the venue.
“In fact there was also another trained bunch of artists who sung like those people who frequent the trains and ask for alms while singing songs. They imitated ‘Wallah Wallah’ in their characteristic manner right through the journey. Also, snacks and cold drinks were served by boys who frequented from one bogie to another, just as it happens in real train journeys”, continues Farah.
Well, seems like there was something indeed real in the offing here!

Rory McIlroy picked up his first win on the U.S. PGA Tour by shooting a course-record 10-under-par 62 during the final round of the Quail Hollow Championship.
Northern Ireland’s McIlroy finished at 15-under for the tournament, four strokes better than Phil Mickelson and five better than Angel Cabrera, who were second and third. He punctuated his victory with a 42-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole at the Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina.
“It was just one of those days where everything went right,” McIlroy said in a televised interview. “I got my nose in front and I was just trying to stay there.”

McIlroy, who receives $1.15 million, had been 1-over par through the first two rounds after opening with 72 and 73. He qualified for weekend play by one stroke on the same day that Tiger Woods missed the 36-hole cut in a regular PGA Tour event for the first time since 2005.
McIlroy, who turns 21 in two days, is the youngest winner on the PGA Tour since Woods got his second professional victory at the Walt Disney World/Oldsmobile Classic on Oct. 20, 1996.
McIlroy turned professional in 2007 at the age of 18 and collected his first title last year in the European Tour’s Dubai Desert Classic. While he missed the cut at the Masters Tournament, McIlroy has climbed to 13th in golf’s Official World Ranking and two months ago was selected to join Woods as the cover athletes for Electronic Arts Inc.’s “Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11” video game.
McIlroy started the final round at Quail Hollow in a tie for seventh place at 5-under par, four shots behind leader Billy Mayfair.
McIlroy had four birdies over his first nine holes to move into a share of the lead. He added four more birdies and an eagle on the second nine to break the course record of 64 held by three players, most recently Rory Sabbatini in 2007.

At a time when the hotel industry is not in the pink of health, so to speak, Dubai hotel group Jumeirah is launching a new brand called VENU Hotels. This “contemporary lifestyle” brand will be launched later this year, the company announced on April 28. The hotel group is in negotiations with developers regarding properties in the Middle East, Northern Africa, Eastern Europe and Asia-Pacific.
The VENU Hotels will be five-star hotels designed “for those who seek a sophisticated immersion in the destination.” Jumeirah owns 11 top-end hotels including the “seven star hotel”, Burj Al Arab. The group seems to have had a profitable year with an occupancy rate of 92 percent on an average in its Dubai beachside properties during 2009, despite Dubai’s financial crisis.

They hope to have 30 hotels all over the globe by 2013, with 10 already in the pipeline, including the ones coming up at Abu Dhabi, Frankfurt and Shanghai. Such establishments have been termed as “branded boutiques,” because they seek to bring together the leisure and design-led character of a boutique establishment and the advantages a chain can offer consumers, such as loyalty points and an assured level of service. Let us hope their venture remains profitable despite the slowdown.
