PM seeks US help for foreign markets access

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani Monday said the economic challenges that Pakistan is faced with are directly linked to its war against terrorism.

Pakistan, at this critical juncture, hence needs assistance by way of market access through Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) plus regime and through passage of Reconstruction Opportunity Zones (ROZs) Bill by the United States Congress to be able to address the root causes of terrorism, he added.

The prime minister was talking to a delegation of the members of US House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee led by its Chairman Howard L. Berman that called on him here at the Prime Minister House on Monday afternoon.

Prime Minister Gilani underlined the imperative need for creation of new employment, development of infrastructure, provision of education and health facilities as well as enhanced security in the militancy affected areas to defeat the phenomenon of extremism for the safety and security of not only Pakistan but also the world at large.

He expressed the hope that the US Congress would play its crucial role also in fast-tracking the disbursement of pledged economic and security assistance to strengthen the hands of his Government in pursuing these goals.

The prime minister stated that despite great human and material sacrifices, Pakistan had remained steadfast in fighting the menace of terrorism and its Armed Forces had achieved remarkable successes in the process.

PML-N stages walk out in NA against POL price rise

ISLAMABAD: Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan Monday lashed out at the incumbent government, saying if the affairs are continued to be run in the present manner then the whole parliament should be sent home.

Addressing the NA session here on Monday, Ch. Nisar said government’s expenditure on its advertisement campaign will be reviewed at a meeting of Public Accounts Committee (PAC).

He said the real need is to implement the 18th amendment rather than its repeated mention.

The Opposition leader said: “General Kayani tried to pull the Army out of the politics and to set a new dimension for it.”

Latter, MNA’s of Pakistan Muslim League-N staged a walk out from the assembly to protest against the recent price hike of the petroleum products by the government.

Govt to act where its writ is challenged: Rehman

ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Rehman Malik Monday said he would be able to react on court’s decision against Ajmal Kasab tomorrow when the detailed verdict is made public.

Talking to media men here outside Parliament House, Rehman Malik said he respects the Indian courts.

“I have always said that Hakimullah Mehsud has been taken out,” he said, adding, although it is also a fact that Mehsud’s death has never been confirmed.

He said action will be taken against the terrorists wherever they challenge the writ of the government.

PML-N Committed to Eradicate Corruption from Country: Nawaz Sharif

LAHORE, Pakistan News: PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif said that PML-N committed to eradicate corruption from the country. He said that plunderers of national wealth should be held accountable and abolition of the NRO was better for the government.
PML-N party workers’ meeting, he said that cooperation with PPP would only be enhanced on the basis of certain principles. He said that promises of 17th amendment and Charter of Democracy were not fulfilled by the PPP. He said that meeting with Asif Ali Zardari should be result-oriented.
He said that unconstitutional steps could be dangerous for democracy. He said that there was a chance to repeal 17th Amendment during the debate in the Parliament. He said that NRO beneficiaries should be produced before the courts after resigning from their posts. He urged that decision of the Supreme Court should be honored and the government should implement it as soon as possible without waiting the detailed decision.
Earlier, high level meeting of PML-N workers was held at Punjab House. Nawaz Sharif chaired the meeting while Shahbaz Sharif, Chaudhry Nisar Ali, Raja Zafrul Haq and Ahsan Iqbal were also present in the meeting.
