9a722e3c0537x200 Delhi Fashion Week 2009Hundreds of models thronged the auditions of upcoming fashion extravaganza Delhi Fashion Week-2009 on Thursday.

The Delhi Fashion Week-2009 will take place from February 19 to February 24 and will be organised by Fashion Foundation of India (FFI).

This all India model hunt was spearheaded by an eminent jury comprising of designers Rohit Bal, Malini Ramani, Atsu Sekhose and Alpana Mittal, adman Prahlad Kakkar, leading models Fleur Xavier and Neha Kapoor and fashion photographer Tarun Khiwal.

Delhi based designer Malini Ramani spoke at length about the qualities she was looking for in a model.

“I am looking for a good model and a good model has many qualities you can””t see them all in upfront 30 seconds. What we are looking instantly is their walk, they must have good legs, good basic body structure and that works for current clothes,” Ramani said.

Fashion Model, Fleur Xavier said that a model needs to have several qualities and revealed that she did spot some interesting faces.

“I think a lot of them were good and I think it”’’s important as a model not just to be able to walk only well and be bad in other aspects. It is important to walk well, have a good body, it is important to look relatively decent or may have a unique face. It”’’s important that all these components come together in order to be a good model,” Xavier said.

Fashion Foundation of India, which is an apex body of fashion formed with a purpose of capacity building for the Fashion Designer and manufacturing industry, organizes the fashion extravaganza.

Edwardiana’s New Look For Couturiers

050a80b75furiers Edwardiana’s New Look For CouturiersWhile Karl Lagerfeld was literally having his work cut out for him at Chanel Haute Couture (by Kamo, a Japanese hairdresser who created the show’s elaborate paper headdresses), his fellow designers had a slightly different form of scissorwork in mind.

The sharp, soot-colored suits at Anne Valérie Hash and Armani Privé recalled the fitted tailoring and moody elegance of the Edwardian era. That age also resurfaced in the exaggerated shoulders inching up toward the models’ chins on a number of runways. Riccardo Tisci, fashion’s dark knight, kept things light at Givenchy by swapping sheer puffs of organza for shoulder pads. then let us know whether Couture’s Edwardiana trend strikes you as fresh or stuck in the past.

Fashion at India Fashion Week

1687e69fa8n week Fashion at India Fashion WeekNEW DELHI: India’s biggest fashion event started on a dark note in New Delhi with designers using the global recession and emotional depression to set a sombre trend for their autumn/winter collections.

Models draped in black, grey and deep purple sashayed down the catwalk at the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week, a five-day event in which 103 designers vie for the attention of 175 domestic and international buyers.

“We are in the heart of recession, and it’s fashionable,” said designer Kiran Uttam Ghosh, whose “Frugality is the new Black” collection was inspired by the global downturn.

“I’ve combined high-street cheap leggings with luxe jackets, T-shirts with luxury shawls,” she said. “You can be frugal, sensible, spend less and yet you can be fashionable.”

Designer Nitin Bal Chauhan’s “Condition Apply Part II” showed the underbelly of fast urban life, especially in India’s capital, in a follow-up to an earlier collection.

Models acted out themes such as vanity, divorce and depression on stage wearing predominantly grey pleated dresses, trousers and skirts.

“It’s inspired by the urban life, the flip side of urban life far removed from the glowing city life,” said Chauhan, who added he is influenced by TV and newspaper stories of urban misery.

Models wore headgear made from junk such as spectacles, which the designer said represented lonely senior citizens left behind in a bustling city, or a study lamp, in reference to students who commit suicide because of work and social pressures.

The show ended with a masked robber strangling a model sitting on a rocking chair.

Chauhan also wove gloom from the recession, which has dented India’s recent economic boom, into the designs.

“If you look at my shirts, they are asymmetric, and parts of the shirt is missing. Part of the cuff is missing, part of the collar is missing, so recession will definitely have an impact on my collection,” he said.

“All my headgear are made of junk,” Chauhan added. “In times of recession things that you put aside certainly hold meaning.”

Contrary to popular belief…

HG and I did not get into a fight and decided to stop working together on I am Fashion and started our own blogs instead. (Even our mutual friends wondered about it!) We still email each other daily about the intricate details of our lives and random thoughts we have, and feel extremely empty when the other is away and has no access to the internet. When I freak out, she is the first person I call and she is still my maid of honor when I fantasize about my wedding. Our reasons for closing down I am Fashionstill stands, though I do think that my later rationalization of it in this blog is a better articulation of how we feel.

As for us continuing to blog even more regularly than before, I attribute it to the “newness” of our blogs. Starting a new blog is like starting a relationship. At the beginning everything is new and exciting as you get to know the other person and watch your relationship grow and mature. Every up and every down is a significant moment. Then the honeymoon phase eventually wears off and you reach a happy medium, where your relationship becomes a part of your daily life. With any luck, you will live happily ever after in this state with a few surprises here and there to spice up the norm. If not, your relationship will wane and you grow apart, eventually deciding that you are both better off parting ways.

Clearly I’m in the honeymoon phase. We are starting to explore new things together, trying to figure out what works best for the both of us. Every new post is an adventure. Every comment and email is exciting. I want to spend every moment of everyday with it, checking on its progress i.e. stalking the traffic, the incoming and outgoing links etc. It’s an exhilarating feeling that I’d almost forgotten about!

Analogy aside, it is heartwarming to read everyone’s encouraging comments and to know that we were able to leave a small footprint on some people’s lives. We appreciate your support and remember that we’ve not left the blogging world for good. Come visit us some time at our new blogs -(Find the links to our new blogs in the post below). We miss you guys!

The Words “Women’s Bras” a Political Statement?

fbe1fedc34tement The Words “Women’s Bras” a Political Statement? In a time when our country is in its greatest financial difficulty, can womens bras change the lives and minds of our nation and the world?

Tatiana a bra manufacturing company is trying to do just that. They specialize in hard to find sizing. They are predominately only sold by professionals, but can be found at specialty retailers also

Many of the professional corsetieres who use the Tatiana brand know that it is a dynamic and forward thinking company. Tatiana and quality are often shared in the same sentence. For women with tough to fit bodies, Tatiana is a welcome name.

Worthwhile causes are easy to find, but seem hard to fund in our current economic situation. By giving a percentage of every sale to environmental and social causes Tatiana is showing its true colors. The customers are able to take part in helping our world be a better place, without being directly asked to give.

This philosophy is connected to another company called ishopconcious. Ishopconcious is forming an alliance with companies like Tatiana to make giving a way of life. Its founder designs Tatiana’s label is driven to spread this philosophy.

If all of the companies in the U.S. incorporated this idea it would truly change our country. Customers will likely want to buy from companies like these in the future. It will begin to spread as we take the pay it forward mindset.

Aspiring to change our political landscape as well, Ishopconcious is taking aim at our current to party system. It is trying to unite people into a new political platform that will allow a true consensus or its citizens determine our course as a nation. This represents a new way of doing business in our country. Uniting with its customers to change the direction of our country represents an astonishing premise. We can all be a part of this philosophy, and feel good about our purchases.
