ABC is announcing that the Friday edition of the “20/20? newsmagazine features an interview with Rebecca Babcock, the daughter of Diane~ Downs, the former Oregonian convicted of shooting her own children — killing one, and seriously injuring the other two — in an infamous 1983 case.
When Downs was brought to trial, in 1984, she was pregnant with another child, and gave birth to a baby girl 10 days before her sentencing.

The girl, Rebecca Babcock, was adopted. She found out at age 16, according to ABC, that Downs was her birth mother.

According to ABC, Elizabeth Vargas’ “20/20″ report will feature Babcock talking about “being the seed of a monster and how that legacy has shaped her life.” “20/20″ airs at 10 p.m. Friday, on KATU (2).
Diane Downs shot her three children and one of the children died. Rebecca Babcock grew up adopted just 100 miles away from Diane Downs. Her adopted parents were adamant that Rebecca not find out why she was adopted. However, when Rebecca was 8, Diane Downs escaped, and Rebecca’s parents were forced to let the school and babysitter know. At that point she found out that her mother was in jail.

Rebecca Babcock actually found out exactly what happened at age 16 when a boyfriend showed her the movie ‘Small Sacrifices’ about the story.
