KESC decides to sack 4000 employees again

KARACHI: Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) has once again decided to sack at least 4500 employees.
It should be mentioned here that the dismissal of these employees was announced some time back; however, the decision was reversed thanks to the protest that last several days.
KESC has presented to Sindh High Court (SHC) a proposal worth Rs. 5.35 billion for the Voluntary Separation Scheme (VSS) for 4000 employees, who will be paid up at least Rs. 700,000 and maximum Rs. 4.7 million.
KESC spokesman said the VSS will be announced on an appropriate time; however, the announcement of the scheme is contingent upon court’s permission.
Earlier also, these employees were sacked; however, they were restored to their jobs after KESC’s head office was besieged for at least one week. TrendPK
Indian top order heaps misery on New Zealand

NAGPUR: Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar built up India’s strong reply with unbeaten half-centuries in the series-deciding third and final Test against New Zealand on Sunday.
The veteran batsmen took the innings on following the dismissal of openers Gautam Gambhir (78) and Virender Sehwag (74) to bring India to 292-2 at stumps on the second day of the match at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium.
India were ahead by 99 runs with eight wickets in hand, having bundled out the visitors for 193 early in the morning session.
Tendulkar survived some hostile bowling from New Zealand’s quicks to play some breathtaking shots on either side of the wicket. He had so far hit seven boundaries in his 57-run knock off 126 balls.
Dravid played in typically sedate fashion, making 69 with the help of eight fours during his four-hour innings.

Gayle scores 333 as West Indies dominate Sri Lanka

GALLE: Opener Chris Gayle tormented Sri Lanka with a career best 333 as West Indies took control of the first test before declaring on 580-9 on Tuesday.
Gayle became the first West Indian to score a triple century on foreign soil and the fourth player to score two triple tons, joining Australian great Don Bradman, India’s Virender Sehwag and compatriot Brian Lara.
With the batsmen swiping away the Sri Lankan attack with ease on the placid pitch, West Indies looked set for a huge first innings total but the dismissal of Brendan Nash (64) sparked a collapse and the hosts hit back to claim six wickets for 21 runs.
Sri Lanka will resume the third day on 54 for one.
Jamaican Gayle caressed Ajantha Mendis to the extra cover boundary to bring up his triple century, and promptly dropped down on his knees in celebration while his team mates applauded him
Sydney: Srilanka beat Australia, win ODI series
Srilanka have defeated the Kangroos in the Sydney one-dayby 29 runs and have also won the One-Day International (ODI) series for the first time in Australia.
Batting first the islanders made 213 runs with Upal Tharanga as the top scorer with 86 runs, with Tilkaratne Dishan 47 and captain Kumara Sangakkara 45. The kangaroos managed a respectable start of 40 runs by Shane Watson but after his dismissal no batsman could stay for long at the crease. Rain also proved an obstacle for the kangaroos to reach the victory stand. The host team was given a target of 240 runs in 38 overs after the delay caused by the rain but the whole team could only play for long and hence lost the game. The success alos resulted in Srilanka winning the 3-ODI series with the kangaroos.
NRO beneficiary fired from Interior Ministry
Sajjad Haider, an officer in the interior ministry, has been dismissed from the service on being an NRO beneficiary, Dunya News reported on Sunday.
Sajad Haider remained the staff officer of Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik and was one of the NRO beneficiaries. Before this dismissal, already two NRO beneficiaries have been fired from their respective services.
Ten ministries to be exterminated by January: PM
Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani has said that 10 federal ministries would be exterminated by January, 2011. He added that the government does not want a confrontation with the judiciary. Nothing would happen on 13th October, he said.
Talking to journalist in Islamabad the Prime Minister said that judiciary wants democracy to nourish and flourish. He said that those who dream and prophecy of the dismissal of government, would be disappointed. Situation is not disappointing like that of 1980s and 1990s, he added. Prime Minister expressed the governments desire to see the institutions develop and gain strength. He further said that he does not enjoy the power of appointing chairman NAB. PM told that he counseled with Raza Rabbani on the issue who briefed him that chairman NAB is not a constitutional designation; in fact its the prerogative of the President to appoint chairman NAB. PM also told the journalists that the government is patronizing meritocracy and the promotions given to the officers today are symbolic of this stance.

Police detain nurse rape accused Dr. Jabbar
KARACHI: Police here on Sunday took into custody Dr. Jabbar Memon, accused of attempting to rape a nurse at Jinnah Hospital, following his dismissal from service.
The accused has not yet recorded his statement citing, what he said his ill health.
Sindh Health Minister Dr. Saghir Ahmed dismissed Dr. Jabbar Memon from service yesterday. However, the detailed report is yet to be submitted by the investigative committee set up after the incident.
In the incident of July 13 a nurse, after being gang raped, was thrown out from first floor of the building of Doctor’s Mess here at Jinnah Hospital.
Afridi disappointed over close-contest defeat
DAMBULA: Pakistan cricket team captain Shahdi Afiridi expressed disappointment over close-contest and said Salman Butt has asked to take up the responsibility as vice captain.
Talking with Ateequr Rehman in Geo News program “ Captain’s Corner”, Afiridi said Shoaib Malik should also bear responsibility. He said team’s win could multiply the enjoyment of century but unfortunately it did not happened and his dismissal was the turning point for Pakistan. He expressed satisfaction over Shoaib Akhter’s spell and said team is now focusing on match against India.
Rehman telephones Altaf
LONDON: Interior Minister Rehman Malik today contacted Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Hussain on phone and felicitated him for the passage of landmark 18th Amendment Bill.
President Asif Ali Zardari singed into law the 18th Amendment Bill in a ceremony on Monday.
Both leaders exchanged views on political situation, 18th Amendment and other matters of mutual interests.
The MQM chief congratulated President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani and constitutional reforms committee over approval of 18th Amendment.
In addition, he urged the country’s democratic forces to pay their role to get rid of power crisis, price hike and unemployment.
