KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) staged nationwide demonstrations to voice their anger over plans by a US evangelical preacher to burn Qurans to mark September 11.

After Friday prayers, JI workers spilled out of mosques and onto the streets to display their anger at the very notion of burning Qurans.

Addressing the gatherings, speakers termed the burning plan yet another way to hurt Muslims, following the blasphemous caricature competition initiated on Facebook.

Expressing anger at the contradictory reports of cancelling the burning plan, they asked the US pastor to refrain from provoking Muslims.

The protesters said that Muslims were not involved in 9/11, and termed it a plot against Islam by a Jewish lobby.

Such steps would further deteriorate the situation further. SAMAA
