Peshawar: Four die in crossfire
At least four people have been killed, while two others injured in a crossfire at Hayatabad Industrial Estate, Peshawar on Friday.
Police said that a Jirga was being held at a factory to resolve a dispute between two owners of the factory. During the negotiations both the parties got furious and resorted to exchange of fire. Resultantly, four men got killed while two others received injuries.
The wounded have been shifted to Hayatabad Medical Complex.
CWG: Pak weightlifters end protest
Pakistani weightlifters have ended their protest after Pakistan Olympic Association assured them to provide justice.
Earlier, National weightlifters decided not to participate in the CWG due to maltreatment by Sindh Minister Muhammad Ali Shah in the inauguration ceremony of the event. However, according to sources, Secretary Pakistan Olympic Association Major Afzal assured the weightlifting team of justice after which the team changed the decision. The dispute between the Chef De Mission and the national weightlifters started when Muhammad Ali Shah held the national flag in the march past of the national players during the opening ceremony of the mega event instead of Shuja Uddin Malik.

Upsurge in water level continues in Ataabad Lake
HUNZA: Ataabad Lake water continues to rise over melting of glacier, reducing the difference between spillway and lake water down to 12-foot only.
People stranded in the lake are being airlifted to the safe areas. The process of melting of glacier has intensified due to sunny weather in the area. Water outflow would start from the spillway if its level rose to 12-foot in the lake.
According to government sources, water inflow in the lake is 2500 cusec while outflow is more than 200 cusec.
The level of water in Ataabad Lake is growing 3.8 feet a day. On the other hand, helicopter services began after boat service was suspended.
Initially, people have been evacuated from the lake to safe areas.
National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) chairman General Nadeem Ahmed said that the process of landsliding was underway. He said that number of helicopters involved in rescue operation would be increased.
ANP-Hazarewal feud led to Karachi killings: Haroon
KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader and Sindh Minister for Information Technology Raza Haroon Thursday said the Karachi incidents appear to be a result of dispute between Awami National Party (ANP) and the activists of Hazara movement.
Talking to Geo News here at Karachi Press Club, the MQM leader urged both sides to observe restrain.
He said his party adopted a stand that ‘Hazarewal are also the party in the fresh target killing incidents of Karachi’ and therefore they should also participate in the co-coordination committee’s meeting of Sindh’s coalition parties.
Raza Haroon stressed that all the issues should be resolved at the table and not through violence.
Kala Bagh Dam not needed: GA Bilour
ISLAMABAD: Awami National Party (ANP) leader Ghulam Ahmed Bilour Monday said there is no need of Kalabagh Dam in the country.
Talking to media after a meeting with Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani at the latter’s residence in Lahore, he said in the event of Kala Bagh Dam construction, the NWFP will die of inundation and Sindh of drought.
He discussed with the PM Gilani issues relating the coalition government of the ANP and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) in the province, political situation and name of the province.
Commenting on the Pakhtoonkhaw as province’s name, Bilour said it would be tantamount to restoration of the identity of Pakhtoons obliterated by the English rulers, adding this is not an ego issue.
The ANP leader stressed the construction of Bhasha Dam for the resolution of energy crisis in the country.
Kalabagh Dam will detrimental to the province, he added.
LHC to hear plea against President’s dual offices
LAHORE: The Lahore High Court has approved a writ petition against dual office of President Asif Ali Zardari for hearing.
The court Monday issued notices to the Presidency, Government of Pakistan and Attorney General calling reply on May 05.
The petition filed in LHC said that President Asif Ali Zardari is also the co-chairman of Peoples Party and argued that holding the dual office is violation of the constitution and the law.

Judicial crisis over as lawyer tenders apology
FAISALABAD: The dispute between bar and bench in Faisalabad Monday settled after Liaquat Javed advocate, who had slapped civil judge Tariq Mehmood, tendered apology to the judge.
District and Sessions judge Suhail Nasir and President of the Bar Ahsan Iqbal addressing a press conference announced compromise between the bar and the bench and said the lawyers and judges will return to their works from today.
The dispute caused by the slapping incident closed court work in Faisalabad for a week.
Oil Supply to NATO Forces Suspended in Karachi
KARACHI, Pakistan News: Oil supplies to the NATO forces in Afghanistan from Karachi Port have been suspended for three days due to clash between two groups of the oil tankers transporters.
Lucrative oil supply contract of Pakistan State Oil to the NATO forces in Afghanistan from Karachi oil terminal was the bone of contention between the two groups of the transporters.
In the clash over partnership in oil contract three persons were injured at the oil terminal.
“PSO has awarded kidnapped transporter Sher Ali Mengal the contract of oil supply to NATO forces in Afghanistan upto 2012, but now another company has been included in the contract.
The two bodies rival oil transporters have called a Jirga today for patch up on the dispute.
A spokesman of PSO in a statement said that after resolution of dispute between the tanker owners oil supply will be resumed to the NATO forces in Afghanistan.

Clashes in Thai-Cambodia border, Thai “Yellow Shirt” protesters have clashed with police and villagers at an ancient temple in territory at the centre of a dispute between Thailand and Cambodia.
At least 15 people were injured in north-eastern Sisaket province after members of the People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD) tried to march to the gates of the temple near land claimed by both Thailand and Cambodia, demanding the Thai government seize the disputed territory.
Protesters broke through barricades in attempts to reach the 11th century Preah Vihear temple near the border with Cambodia on Saturday.
Thai riot police used their shields to push back protesters armed with sticks who were trying to beat local villagers.
