Karachi administrator removed

KARACHI: Lala Fazl-ur Rehman, Karachi’s Administrator, has been removed while additional charge is given to District Coordination Officer Mahammad Hussain Syed, TrendPK reported Monday.

According to the notification issued on August 9, Karachi’s DCO had to take the charge of the administrator but Lala Fazl-ur Rehman remained on the post on the verbal orders of Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah. TrendPK

PML-N leader, 2 others shot injured in Gilgit

GILGIT: A prominent local leader of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and two others have been shot injured in Gilgit on Sunday (16 jan).

According to details, PML-N leader Jaffarullah Khan was going in his car on Ponial Road when few unknown armed men opened fire and injured him. One passerby and a shop keeper were also injured in the firing.

Rescue teams rushed to the scene and moved all injured to the District Headquarters Hospital of Gilgit.

As the news about the armed attack on PML-N leader spread in the city, all markets and bazaars of Gilgit were closed and roads were deserted. TrendPK

Kohat suicide attack’s death toll climbs to 19

KOHAT: The death toll of Kohat suicide attack has climbed to 19 while scores of others seriously injured of today’s (Wednesday) deadly attack are still in critical condition.

Early today, the terrorists launched a suicide attack on Teerah Bazar bus stand in Kohat city of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to police, the terrorists used 10 kilograms of explosives in the suicide attack while the District Head Quarter Hospital sources informed that initially 15 people were killed and more than 20 sustained injuries, out of which, many were very serious.

One by one many seriously injured people continued to succumb. According to the latest details, the death toll has mounted to 19 and it is feared that it can climb further as many others are still in critical condition.

BADIN: Women problems need to be tackled immediately on emergency basis; suggested a seminar on women rights held in Badin on Wednesday.

A local Non Governmental Organization (NGO) organized a seminar ‘Women Rights Awareness’ in Badin Gymkhana today. Women from across the district, including rural areas, participated in the seminar.

The speakers of seminar said that many laws on women rights had been made in the country but none of them is being followed.

The women participants of the seminar presented many suggestions for the solution of their problems and demanded for the implementation of the existing laws on women rights. Trend Pk

Gilgit Baltistan: mysterious explosions underground, unusual movement of mountains

Mountains have started sliding in the district of Gahazar in Gilgit Baltistan, News Trends reported on Monday. Underground mysterious explosions have also taken place while stone-rain has demolished atleast 5 houses in the area. Great fears prevail in the local residents.

Mysterious explosions were being heard from quite some time in the district of Ghazar and as a result stone-rain was also continuously taking place in the area. Last night a huge explosion took place in a mountain in the area and a large number of stones started rolling down. This caused chaos a nd fear in the local people who left their respective houses and came out. People ran desperately to save their lives. The explosions have caused big crakes in the mountain while some water falls have also erupted out of it.

Pakistani tribesman to sue CIA over drone deaths

PESHAWAR: A Pakistani tribesman is to sue the CIA for 500 million dollars after his son and brother were killed in America’s covert drone war against Al-Qaeda, his lawyer said Monday.

Karim Khan from North Waziristan, the district on the Afghan border where the US campaign has stepped up in recent months, claimed his house had been hit by US missiles on December 31, 2009.

“That drone attack killed my son, my brother and a local man. We are not terrorists, we are common citizens,” he told a news conference where he and his lawyer Mirza Shehzad Akbar announced his plan to sue.

Pakistani intelligence officials said at the time that four militants were killed in the US missile strike in the Mir Ali area.

“According to Islamic law the punishment for blood is blood. If I have the means, I will take revenge for this attack,” said Khan.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistanis are celebrating the second day of Eid with religious zeal and fervor today.

The process of slaughtering of animals began soon after Fajar prayers as in many religious seminaries, shared animals were slaughtered.

After the sacrifice, meat is distributed among the poor, neighbors and relatives. During the process of meat distribution, the old, young and children take great interest and enjoy the ritual.

Eid festivities are being enlivened with slaughtering animals and arranging parties for friends and relatives.

During Eid days, normally the rush of people increases greatly in hotels and restaurants during lunch and dinner.

Sorab: Earthquake jolts continue, locals await aid

In two Union Councils of Sorab, Moli Lakoriyan and Tarozai Jatakabad, the jolts of earthquake have not stopped since two and a half months and thousands of people are living under the clear sky, waiting for aid from government.
These aftershocks continued from two and a half months, have damaged more than 800 houses. Provinvial Interior Minister Mir Zafar Zehri announced an aid of 10 million rupees which was handed over to the district government but seven days passed and still the funds and relief goods never reached the earthquake affectees. Women and small children of this area are facing lots of problems as well; where as 6 children are not in stable condition due to severe cold weather. No representative of government or public sector has also visited this area so far. DC Kalat says that he has been posted; where as till the next DC is appointed; the affectees lives are in danger.
