51 more dengue cases confirmed in Sindh

KARACHI: The Sindh Health Department has confirmed 51 more dengue cases in different parts of the province Saturday.
Officials said that 26 cases were confirmed in Karachi and 25 in other parts of Sindh during last 24 hours.

North Waziristan: 5 killed and 4 injured in a drone attack
In North Waziristan, during last 24 hours, 5 persons have been killed and 4 injured in the third drone attack.
The US drone targeted a house in the area of Ismael Khel, located in Datta Khel, a border area of North Waziristan, and fired two missiles. This drone attack took place at 6 am today and suspected house was the main target.

ISLAMABAD: Meteorological Department on Monday has forecast more rain with lightening in Islamabad and some other parts of the country. While hot and dry weather was predicted for rest of the areas.
According to Met offices, more rain expected during next 24 hours in Islamabad, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit Baltistan and Kashmir.
Some areas of Islamabad, Kohat, Dera Ismail Khan and Malakand Division received rain during last 24 hours.
Heaviest rain of 66 millimeter was recorded in Muzaffarabad. While Turbat experienced the highest temperature of 42 degree centigrade. SAMAA
Power crisis continues despite monsoon rains

ISLAMABAD: Despite the rain spell in northern areas, a power crisis prevails throughout the country, said sources Friday.
According to Pakistan Electric Power Company (PEPCO) officials, the electricity demand has reached 16,339 megawatts, while power generation was recorded at 14,277 megawatts.
PEPCO sources disclosed that load shedding hours are increasing in rural and urban areas.
Urban areas are facing load shedding of 5 to 6 hours, and rural areas 9 to 10 hours to overcome the shortfall of 2,062 megawatts.
Production of hydroelectricity was recorded at 6,533 megawatts after water levels in both major dams normalized.
Electricity of 21,119 megawatts was produced from PEPCO thermal power plant; 5,559 megawatts from IPPs: and, 62 megawatts generated from rental power house.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is likely to scrap plans to export 2 million tonnes of wheat after devastating floods washed away stored grain, threatening to further tighten global supplies hit by a severe drought across the Black Sea region.
Pakistan has lost at least 725,000 tonnes of wheat in the country’s worst flooding in 80 years, although traders said there are still enough stocks to meet demand until the next harvest, meaning imports are unlikely.
“Currently, there are no talks of exporting wheat,” one Pakistan food and agriculture ministry official, who is familiar with the discussions, told Reuters on condition of anonymity. “The plan to export 2 million tonnes of surplus wheat is likely to be shelved.”

Exodus in Thatta as flood threat increases

THATTA: Thousands of people on Friday fled Sujawal and its surrounding towns following a breach in the protective embankment of Indus River.
Sujawal is a densely populated tehsil of Thatta District, some 80 kilometers from Karachi.
The same district was hit by tropical storms in May 1999 and June 2010.
Owing to the breach in a dike, it is being feared that the deluge could enter the Thatta city anytime.
Around 60 percent population of Thatta has already fled the city.
In addition, almost 90 percent population of Sujawal, Mirpur Bathoro and Daro has migrated to safer places including the relief camps.
Most of the population from the eastern side of the Indus River has moved to Badin while the majority of the western side has preferred to move to Makli, Jhampir, Gharo and Karachi.
