These days it’s become a trend of sorts for every big, eagerly awaited film to get embroiled in some controversy or the other close to its release. Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Hrithik Roshan- Aishwarya Rai Bachchan starrer Guzaarish too finds itself in an uncalled for controversy over a copyright issue just few days before release (Nov 19).

Apparently, a novelist, who goes by the name of Dayanand Raajan, has accused the writer of Guzaarish for lifting the theme of his new book for the plot of the movie. According to Raajan, Guzaarish’s plot line and characters is similar to that of his yet-to-be published novel. Raajan is now threatening to file a case against the makers of the film over copyright issues.

One will have to wait and watch if he actually ends up taking the issue to court or decides to amicably sort the issue.

NEW DELHI: The new moon night twinkled with thousands of diyas and candles as India celebrated Diwali Friday.

Traditional fervour, aesthetic rangoli and marigold flower patterns at thresholds, illuminations at houses, and exchanges of sweets and greetings with near and dear ones marked the festivities.

Diwali, also called Deepawali or celebration with rows of lamps, is one of the most eagerly awaited and widely joined festivals across the country. The new moon night sky Friday was lit with bright sparklers and flashes of bursting crackers as well as tiny shafts of light from diyas all over the country – from megapolises to remote hamlets.

In the capital, like elsewhere, the day dawned with people decorating the doorways of their houses with multi-coloured rangolis and marigold flowers. Elaborate prayers to Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth, and Ganesha were

LONDON: BP has announced it will publish an eagerly awaited report on the causes of the Gulf of Mexico oil spill on Wednesday.

The probe by the oil giant’s head of safety and operations, Mark Bly, is viewed as key to how BP defends itself against legal proceedings involving the spill, which followed an explosion at the Deepwater Horizon oil rig in April.

“The Deepwater Horizon accident investigation report prepared by BP’s internal investigation team on the causes of the Gulf of Mexico tragedy is expected to be published” at noon (1100 GMT), BP said Tuesday.

A White House spokesman said he was not aware of anyone in the administration having seen an advance copy of the report.

“We’ll certainly look through the report… and may have some comment on it,” said spokesman Robert Gibbs.

The explosion on April 20 killed 11 workers and caused the

JOHANNESBURG: South African police stepped in to take over security at four World Cup venues Tuesday after new strikes by stewards, including a walk-out hours before Brazil”s first match of the tournament.

South Africa”s government said the move would not affect fans” safety but organisers were left red-faced by the failure to contain the industrial unrest.

National police commissioner Bheki Cele said his officers would now be in charge of security at the stadiums in Durban, Cape Town, Port Elizabeth and Johannesburg”s Ellis Park where five-times champions Brazil played North Korea.

Around 1,000 police were on duty in and around the ground for one of the most eagerly awaited matches of the first round.

“We have activated necessary and adequate contingency plans to different stadia in the country,” said Cele. “We are confident that we will not compromise the safety of the tournament or our day to day normal policing.”

A correspondent at Ellis Park reported several hundred staff walked out of the stadium around four hours before kick-off.
