Zulqarnain exit is shameful for Pakistan, says Imran

KARACHI: Former captain Imran Khan has called for a clean-up of Pakistan cricket and said wicketkeeper Zulqarnain Haider’s sudden exit to Britain to seek asylum was a “shameful’ incident.

“It is really shameful the way he left the team and reached London,” Imran told a private news channel on Wednesday.

“At the moment we don’t know the facts that compelled him to do this but nevertheless it is another embarrassing moment for Pakistan and its people.

“Sadly this incident only gives credence to the feeling our players are linked with bookmakers or are controlled by them.

The recent spot-fixing allegations have not been helpful at all for Pakistan cricket,” added Imran.

Zulqarnain fled the team’s hotel in Dubai on Monday, hours before the fifth and final one-dayer against South Africa, and flew to London.

Ali Zafar looks through Katrina Kaif

It seems Pakistan’s pop icon Ali Zafar, who is now in Mumbai to pursue a career in movies, has a lot of catching up to do on the who’s who of the film industry. Last week at a party, he failed to recognize Katrina Kaif although she is his co-star in the Yash Raj film that Ali has signed.

Last week Katrina spotted Ali whom she had seen and liked in Tere Bin Laden at a party. Knowing they were scheduled to work together Katrina enthusiastically approached Ali…only to be greeted with a polite but bank smile.

Says an eyewitness, “Ali clearly didn’t recognize Katrina. Though he was polite, he had a quizzical who-are-you look on his face. It was an embarrassing moment for Katrina. But she handled it with aplomb. She introduced herself as her co-star in the Yash Raj film that they were doing, welcomed him to Mumbai and walked off.”

When asked about this embarrassing incident Katrina shrugged it off with a laugh, “It’s true. Ali looked at me quite strangely at the party last week. What’s the big deal? He’s new to Bollywood. It will take him time to know everyone. I’ve been here for four years. I still don’t know everyone.”

The story doesn’t end there. It seems Katrina had load of fun at Ali’s expense the day after the party incident.

Letting out a prankster’s chuckle, Katrina says, “I met Ali at the Yash Raj office a day after the party. I went up to him and said I hope he recognizes me.”

Ali of course didn’t know where to look.

Hopefully, now he won’t have a problem recognizing Katrina since they’re shooting together non-stop.

So now that the Cleveland Cavaliers were eliminated from the postseason, LeBron James is a free agent and has some decision making to do. Including the Gloria tattoo he has on his arm for his mother. I am totally kidding, but I bet he will think about that a little differently now. What an embarrassing rumor.

At least 95 workers survive China mine flood

BEIJING: At least 95 miners have survived a mine flood in a north China colliery, state television said Monday, eight days after the disaster struck.

“By this morning, a total of 95 workers have been found alive in the mine and so far 27 have been taken out of the mine shaft,” the report said.

Curfew In Khyber Agency, Militant Detained

BARA: Security forces operation against militants continued in tehsil Bara of Khyber Agency and several hideouts of militants were destroyed during the action.

According to sources, today is the third day of operation against militants as the area remained under curfew.

At least 50 militants were killed and more then 60 arrested so far during operation. Reports said large number of weapons and drugs were also recovered from militants’ hideouts.

Political agent of Khyber Agency Tariq Hyat said operation in tehsil Bara will continue till elimination of militants and curfew will be relaxed after complete clearance of the area.

New India Nuclear Test, Pak Concerned Over It

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is concerned on reports that India is again preparing for a new nuclear test, Geo News reported Thursday.

In his weekly news briefing, Foreign Office Spokesman Abdul Basit said the recent US statements on nuclear scientist Dr Abdul Qadeer and nuclear proliferation are quite baseless, adding Pakistan like any other responsible country is full-fledged alive to its responsibility.

The spokesman said there are reports that India has a new nuclear test in the works, adding these reports are rather embarrassing to Pakistan; Pakistan is however steadfast on its policy of maintaining minimum defence deterrence and does not want arms race in the region.

Responding a query regarding Mumbai investigations, the spokesman said Pakistan is serious to take those responsible to the book; while, the dossier recently delivered to Pakistan by India is same as the previous one.

Spokesman said Pakistan is opposed to the thorough physical search of Dr Afia before presenting her to the court, adding if such search is conducted, Pakistan will not condone it.

Shahrukh Khan Detained

Shahrukh Khan Detained, Bollywood Shah Rukh Khan was detained for two hours at a US airport after American immigration officials spotted the ‘Khan’ in his name, his aide said. The incident happened as the hugely popular actor, whose fans number millions in India and abroad, was on his way to Chicago to attend an event related to India’s Independence Day.

“He was detained because his surname is Khan. He was kept until officials from the Indian embassy intervened. Now he has been released,” Niloufer Qureshi, Shah Rukh’s manager, told IANS over telephone from Mumbai.

The Indian government and entertainment industry reacted furiously after the 43-year-old actor, named by Newsweek last year as one of the world’s 50 most powerful men, revealed how he was detained and stopped from even using his mobile telephone.

Speaking to CNN-IBN channel on telephone from the US, Shah Rukh appeared to shrug off the embarrassing episode saying he had suffered similar treatment previously too.

He said it was ironic that the incident happened on the eve of Aug 15 — when freedom is celebrated by Indians. ’I personally feel it is over and done,’ he said, sounding conciliatory. Asked if he felt like reacting in a similar way, he replied: ‘If they want I can frisk Angelina Jolie when she is here (India).’

Undoubtedly one of Bollywood’s biggest and most highly paid stars, Shah Rukh has acted in nearly 70 films in a career spanning 17 years.

Other Bollywood stars like Katrina Kaif, Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan too are set to attend the event.
