Lady Gaga, Kylie Minogue strike out in ARIA awards

SYDNEY: Global superstars Lady Gaga and Kylie Minogue both struck out at Australia’s ARIA awards, with the top prize for international artist going to an English folk rock band.
Mumford & Sons picked up the Most Popular International Artist award on Sunday, the final night of the Australian Recording Industry Association Music Awards, since 1987 an annual series of awards celebrating the Australian music industry.
The Album of the Year Award went to Angus and Julia Stone, a brother and sister duo from Sydney, for “Down the Way,” beating such artists as Birds of Tokyo for their eponymous album and Sia for “We Are Born.” The pair also took several other awards including Best Group.
Birds of Tokyo took Best Rock Album and Clare Bowditch won best female artist with “Modern Day Addiction,” beating Minogue and her latest album, “Aphrodite.” AGENCIES

Lalah Hathaway, Donny Hathaway: Eulaulah Donyll Hathaway (born 16 December 1968) better known as Lalah Hathaway is a contemporary R & B and jazz singer. She is the daughter of soul singer Donny Hathaway and classically trained singer Eulaulah. In 1990, Lalah Hathaway released its eponymous album, Lalah Hathaway. The album’s first single was “Heaven Knows,” produced by Derek Bramble. The next single was “Baby Do not Cry”, produced by Angela Winbush.

After studying at Berklee, Hathaway signed with Virgin Records and released his own debut album, Lalah Hathaway, in 1990. The group gave rise to 4 R & B hits, including the Top 5 Smash Heaven Knows. His 1994 follow-up, a moment no less well, and Hathaway broke up with his Virgin. She went to work with many other artists such as Take 6, Mary J. Blige and Marcus Miller, writing, producing and doing background vocals.
